About

Growing up in Concord, North Carolina, and influenced by Bob Dylan, Crosby, Stills & Nash, and Neil Young, brothers Scott Avett on banjos and Seth Avett on guitars formed The Avett Brothers with standup bassist Bob Crawford in 2001, and released their first studio album Country Was in 2002, as well as live album that same year. Their stripped down, folky sound has a maudlin but warm vibe, full of gorgeous melodies and bluegrass jingle jangle. 2003's A Carolina Jubilee followed on Ramseur Records, as well as 2004’s Mignonette, which further polished their sound with graceful harmonies. In between a relentless concert schedule, the band managed to record 2006’s Four Thieves Gone: The Robbinsville Sessions and The Gleam EP, in addition to a second live album, between tours before releasing their 2007 album Emotionalism. This garnered a lot of critical acclaim and caught the attention of Rick Rubin, who signed the band to his American Records label and produced their follow-up 2009’s I and Love and You, expanding their sound and bringing the band to new heights. Their seventh full-length album The Carpenter, also produced by Rubin, came out in 2012, debuting at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 and earning their first Grammy nomination. The Avett Brothers latest, Magpie and the Dandelion, was released in October 2013 and is full of pop charisma and folk soul that has been enchanting ticket holders and pulling at their heartstrings with its raw energy and intimacy.

    Absolutely flawless and surprising

    by Brigitte182 on 2014-01-27The Forum - London

I have been to over 60 concerts: Billy Joel, Elton John, The Killers, Green Day, etc. This was BY FAR the best concert I have ever attended. The few songs I didn't know I was completely captivated by the performance. If you are lucky enough to see them play "Through My Prayers" you will be crying for the next month. Truly incredible how talented these guys are. Still blown away.

    AVETT BROTHERS ROCK!!!

by MrBee on 2013-10-23Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The best show I have EVER been to! The Avett brothers bring so much energy to the stage, and only brothers can sing like that together. It is like they can read each others minds! Tight tight band. I just wish it hadn't ended - I wanted to stay there listening to them all night!

Stellar performance marred by poor organization

by davidkyle on 2013-10-21Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The Avett Brothers, as always, put an energetic and crowd pleasing show together. This was the third time I have seen the band. The same cannot be said, however, for the meltdown at the box office. Poor organization left concert attendees stranded outside in a line manned by two people as they listened to the first notes strummed on the guitar by Scott Avett.

    A must see show!

by BadB on 2013-10-21Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I first saw The Avett Brothers on David Letterman. The performed Laundry Room and was totally blown away. Their eclectic line up, soaring harmonies and choice of instruments captivated me and left me wanting more. Their I and Love and You album has been on constant rotation for the last number of years. I was eager to see them live and wasn't disappointed. I brought a number of friends who were unfamiliar with the AV Bros. but all came away as huge fans. The energy level was at a 10 most of the night and the way they all changed up the setting on stage made for a very entertaining show. Some of the songs that were trimmed down to a single guitar or just the piano added a simple honesty to the message of their lyrics. Go see this band!

Beautiful venue, helpful staff, and of course, an *INCREDIBLE* show. Ticketmaster staff were very helpful as I needed to change my tickets to 'will-call' having forgot them in travelling provinces to attend.

A truly energizing Show from beginning to end!!

    by 1Montrealer on 2013-10-20Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

The Avett Brothers are a great live band to see and I would recommend them highly and definitely see them again. From the moment they hit the stage at the Orpheum they were energized and they energized us, the audience. We all stood for nearly 2 hours. They mix up slower ballads in between their very lively ones and they just exude energy. They played a great mix of their albums, giving us some of the newer music along with the old favorites, like Brooklyn Brooklyn. A very satisfying evening with the Avetts.

    Lots of enthusiasm

by dorrcoq on 2013-10-20Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

A very enthusiastic (sometimes to the point of being annoying) crowd, and an equally enthusiastic performance. Yet for some reason I didn't enjoy it as much as the June, 2012 show here.

Avett brothers all over the map.

by DickJones on 2013-10-20Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Love the simple harmonies that the brothers have probably been singing together since they were kids. This is where they are at their best and where they should stay. Not so adapt at rocking it out. Just too much noise and totally out of context.

    Avett Brothers were great

    by Steve58 on 2013-09-11Métropolis - Montreal

Brought my girlfriend to this show. She did not know who whom the Avett brothers were and felt if they were not playing at a venue like the Bell Center, they could not be that good. SHE WAS BLOWN AWAY!!!. So was I. What a great show. From ballads to folk to country, all was amazing. Great to hear and great to watch. Great venue also. I can't wait for the new album to come out. Bought the latest one the day after the show. Already had I and Love and You. Bravo Avett Brothers for an amazing show. When your back in town, I will be there for sure.

The Avett Brothers were beyond my expectations which were high to begin with! If I was the type to sit down in my seat during a concert like that I wouldn't have enjoyed myself because most people were standing so you wouldn't be able to see if you remained seated. I could not remain seated for this show...IMPOSSIBLE!! It was so darn good. I love them even more now and going back to the Danforth in September to see First Aid Kit. Another awesome band!

    Unreal!

by MusicFanSS on 2012-06-12The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

I like to think of myself as an avid concert goer; always up to check out a new band or head to a show. As such, I've got quite a few shows under my belt and to be honest I don't typically feel the need to review them. That said, i can't help myself here, this show was just beyond any of my expectations and I'm quite the Avett Brothers Fan to begin with!! It's hard to describe this show other than to say it was absolutely amazing. The energy level that the Avett Brothers bring to the stage is exceptional not to mention the obscene amount of talent in that family. If you haven't been to a show, I highly recommend it. I loved the first night so much that I immediately bought tickets to their show the next night and wasn't disappointed!!

Incredible. I was at both shows, and while I enjoyed the setlist more on Wednesday, both nights were among the best concerts I've seen.
