    The Decemberists were awesome!!!

by Rvrwoman on 2015-07-25Burton Cummings Theatre - Winnipeg

Every song was a treat. Colin Meloy is outstanding as a song writer and in his rapport with tha audience. The encore was a real surprise that had everyone on their feet. The band's musical talent and sheer number of instruments left me open mouthed and clapping. You've got to experience this concert!

Decemberists--great show but time for a break

by EngineDriver on 2011-08-26Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

This was a very good show but not great; the absence of Jenny was really the reason though. They didn't play some great new songs and I think not having her there was the reason. Sarah (?) filled in as best she could and I really love her singing. I wish Jenny all the best in her recovery. I saw them earlier this year at Sasquatch and was an instant fan--they rocked that show. I can't wait to see the full band together again. An amazing performance for the price of the tickets.

    Better live than recorded

by BLife on 2011-08-25Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

Great to see them live - super tight band, great vocals, and a great sense of humour. Malkin Bowl a nice venue on a warm summer night.

    loved it

by Gkat on 2011-08-25Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

I really enjoyed the show - the acoustics were great and the band did an awesome job. I am not a country music fan, so those numbers weren't my faves, but the rest of the songs were. I really wanted to hear Engine Driver and Mariners Revenge song, and they played both. It was the best! Lots of audience participation.

It was fabulous but that lack of a beer garden was definitely noted and took away from the concert experience. The Decemberists themselves were fantastic as always.

started on time, ended 90+ min later. Did not feel Colin Meloy's energy was great. Thought he looked tired. end of tour show? Sound was great. despite sitting in the back of the Malkin bowel. Would go see them when ever they come to town.

    Great music, poor venue prep.

by Anonymous on 2011-08-25Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

Decemberists are just an amazing band. Simple as that. However the Malkin bowl venue had a lot of technical glitches that should have been worked out beforehand. Poor audio mixing for opening acts and many many lighting glitches that took a lot away from the show

Their heart just wastn't in it.

by pacificist on 2011-08-25Malkin Bowl - Vancouver

I love the Decemberists and their Hazards of Love tour stop at the Vogue counts among the best shows I've seen. Maybe it was the laid back setting of Malkin Bowl, the mellower new album, or that it was the 2nd last night of their tour but the energy level seemed pretty low and they seemed tired. Some of their on stage antics were stale and schtick-ey. Not the best performance I'd seen from them. That said, they are as musically superb as ever and Sara Watkins did an excellent job filling in for Jenny Conlee (though she was sure missed).

    Amazing concert!!!

by Anonymous on 2011-02-09Sound Academy - Toronto

What a great band to see live! Not only did Decemberists deliver an outstanding performance, they also added some fun acting to their songs, which really brought their music to life. Colin is a great front man, very easy going and energetic. The energy on stage was amazing and the crowd was singing along the entire time. It is very rarely that you get to see such great musicians who play so many instruments on stage with such ease. Even if you are not a big fan of the band or the genre, go see them because their music really comes to life in a concert! Also, this was an almost 2 hour long concert!!! Highly recommended.

Swept by the sea and swallowed by a whale

by Nastasha on 2011-02-04Sound Academy - Toronto

Three days later and I still can't stop humming along to the Decemberists! Been a fan for awhile now, since Castaways and Cutouts, and they put on a good show. Know you're in the company of fans when you braved what was then an apparent snowstorm! Colin sings with a heart that'll make ya swoon - January Hymn - and they played Mariner's Revenge! Great great stuff. Go see em!

Decemberists one of the best concerts ive been to

by Luren on 2011-02-03Sound Academy - Toronto

The crowd was unified in singing along and swaying to the beat of the songs. Some of the best stage charisma and live talent that I've seen in a while. I was a big fan going in and a bigger fan going out.

    Snow couldn't stop this show

by AdamJakedog on 2011-02-03Sound Academy - Toronto

Despite the threat of the biggest snow storm in 40 years there was a terrific turnout on Tuesday night. Second time I have seen the Decemberists and they were as great as ever. I could have done without the dialogue between an annoying drunken guy and Colin, the lead singer, but that did not damper the mood at all. But I am going to say the same thing I always do: Sound Academy sucks!

I was swallowed by a whale ... and I loved it

by SingingGoat on 2011-02-03Sound Academy - Toronto

After a riveting performance from duo Wye Oak, the Decemberists' set began with the disembodied voice of "Sam Adams, Mayor of Portland, Oregon," encouraging audience members to mingle and interact, then to close our eyes and envision the band emerging from the fog of a midwestern forest. This entertaining opening characterized the set in that you as the audience always felt APART of the show, complicit in something wonderful and special. The Decemberists are all brilliant musicians and gifted performers who appear to love what they do very much, their joy and energy infectious. I couldn't have dreamed of a better setlist, with the band performing not only their terrific new material but many of their best songs from their back catalogue. Sara Watkins, a guest Decemberist for this tour and a gifted solo artist in her own right, played fiddle and provided beautiful and powerful backing vocals throughout, and was truly stunning as the lead on "Won't Want For Love". Colin Meloy, one of the most unique and talented songwriters working today, is a quirky and entertaining lead man, and is also remarkable for never dominating the spotlight; the Decemberists truly are a band, each member contributing to the character of the music and the performance. It was, hands down, one of the best shows I've ever seen.

    The Decemerists never disappoint!

    by FatBoy05 on 2011-02-03Sound Academy - Toronto

Providing a great set list combining the old and the new songs from the King Is Dead Album was a pleasure to be a part of. It was my first time to the sound academy in Toronto and I was quite pleased. Especially since my first choice was to go to the Royal Oak show in Michigan which turned out to be cancelled! My only complaint was the sound engineer could have supplied more bass as it was hard to hear from my vantage point (Balcony at the back) Oh, two complaints...My drive home to Sarnia Ontario after the show was horrible! Go to see this Show!
