    Really Good!

    by Shane111 on 2009-07-22Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

I wasn't a big fan of the album 'Hazards of Love' but seeing it live change my opinion entirely. The lady's really stole the show. Plus the cover of 'Crazy On You' was pretty amazing.

    Crazy on the Decemberists

by Speaker on 2009-07-22Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

This was not simply a concert, this was genuine spectacle, real live entertainment. Never before has a band blown me away like The Decemberists did last night. The night began with a fantastic performance by opening band Blind Pilot whose innovative style set the stage perfectly for the folk rock explosion to come. When first lead singer Colin Meloy stepped on to stage with a glass of wine in hand i didn't quite know what to expect, was he talkative or down to business about his music? Surely enough, without nary a word, the show took off. The band played a full set of songs from their newest album The Hazards of Love, nearly acting the story out as they played, the energy was amazing, the music was played perfectly and the show was so tightly put together that i could not find a single flaw in the performance. But when the set was finished, Meloy stepped up to the mic and, though i couldn't quite hear over the cheering crowd, said something about an intermission. That was sure surprising to me, I've never seen anything like this band before, so different from anything since the likes of KISS. Now it is hard to put an intermission in a concert without coming off "douchey" as Colin himself might say, but i feel, and hope my fellow concertgoers feel as well, that it was well worth the wait. The band reemerged with a completely different energy, from "down to business" right to "let's just have a good time together", it was incredible. Colin Meloy joked about a lot, interacted with the audience a ton, and still managed to keep us on our feet with anticipation for the next tune. Meloy distracted us with a small guitar solo just long enough for the two female guest singers to sneak back on stage for a fantastic cover of Heart's Crazy on You. The Band then made their exit saying farewell, but it was very apparent that the crowd hadn't had enough, and the Decemberists returned for an unforgettable encore; The band reenacted the discovery of British Columbia. 3 members of the band came directly into the audience playing Olaf the "Pretty Nice", a Native Canadian and The Virginal Princess of Norway. Using the audience members as props they put on the funniest play I've ever seen. Alas the show had to end, but it was one I'll never forget. So all in all, The Decemberists made us laugh, they made us cry, and they made us call out for more!

    The Best Concert Ever!!

by Dreadgal on 2009-07-22Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

I had the most amazing time last night! It was like getting to see Decemeberists concert in one! First they began the evening by playing their entire new album, The Hazards of Love (which I saw them perform at Sasquatch this year), followed by a short intermission then a full second set and then an Encore to never be forgotten!! Overall out of the five performances I've seen by the Decemberists this was by far my most favorite one yet! The venue provided the perfect intimacy for a band like the Decemberists, with phenominal sound quality that left the audience feeling power but not so much as to overpower the beauty in their lyrics and vocals. As I saod before BEST CONCERT EVER!!!

Decemberists at Vogue Theatre in Van, BC.

by theshankillbutcher on 2009-07-22Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

The show was nothing short of amazing. Seamless transitions through the entire Hazards of Love album was the first half, with some songs from the archives for the second. An incredible cover of Heart's "Crazy on You" got the whole crowd going. Colin Meloy and the Decemberists did not disappoint. Highly recommended.

    Tight and fluid....

by dancegirl on 2009-07-22Vogue Theatre - Vancouver

this was a great show for it's ongoing flow of music...one song into another...not sure what the deal is with the one singer who seemed a bit awkward, but the overall presentation was impressive. The backup band "Blind Pilot" was a very pleasant surprise, bought their cd!

    The Decemberists are awesome

by OurManInVanc on 2009-07-18Concerts At Marymoor - Redmond

A beautiful night at the scenic Marymoor Park in Redmond WA. A capacity crown were enjoying the early evening glorious sunshine to witness Andrew Bird, Blind Pilot and headliners The Decemberists. Having first saw The Decemberists at Sasquatch in May, I became an instant fan. Many listens to their latest CD, The Hazards of Love and its rock opera style meant I had to be at this concert despite living in Vancouver and the fact that the band are in Vancouver for 2 nights next week.

    Decemberists Rock!

by Meech on 2009-07-14Radio City Music Hall - New York

I had never heard of the Decemberists until I was on my way to New York City and my friends had tickets. It was at Radio City Music hall so I thought sure! I checked them out online before I got to NYand thought they sounded great. I was ready to be enterained. I had no idea that I was about to be amazed and thrilled by the concert! It was musically fabulous, artful, intense, and wonderful to hear something a little different. A rock opera is what I would call this concert. You've got to see it to really get how truly masterful these muscians are. When I got home I heard them on the Peak 100.5 Radio in Vancouver and thought awe - there is life after POP!
