In 2022, The Gaslight Anthem returned to the stage for the first time in four years.
Unlike those shows (which celebrated the ten-year anniversary of their breakthrough LP The '59 Sound), last year's tour explored every corner of the band's discography in festival and headline dates around the world.
Having recorded their first album in nearly a decade and with a new single "Positive Charge" out now, these 2023 shows mark a new beginning for The Gaslight Anthem.
After years of waiting to see the boys in a small venue, the Commodore Ballroom in Vancouver, they didnot disappoint.
We showed up halfway through opening act Sammy Kaye's show. Wasn't overly impressed by them, and was surprised to hear they weren't just a local band they pressed into service. Northcote was the second band, and they were better. Don't know any of their stuff and won't be rushing out to buy any, but thought their singer was fantastic and had great character. Enjoyed him alone more than the whole band. And then Gaslight Anthem! Pretty solid show. They played a whole wide mixture of new an old stuff, threw a couple covers into the mix. Really good energy from the band, crowd interaction was awesome and I'll certainly be seeing them again. They don't play encores, which I love. Just play as much music as you can, and they did. Kudos! Despite not playing my 2 favorite songs, Diamond Church St Choir and Red Violin - I was super stoked at the set list and enjoyed the show. The venue isn't what I'd describe as a good spot for a rock show. I always cringe when I hear a show is going to be at Burton Cummings. The balconies provide good viewing but people want to stand up and rock. Audio was good, but not the best I've heard by a long shot. The lights were not very intricate, which really isn't necessary, but they got a laugh out of the old production person in me. They need to work on getting some more bathrooms into that joint too. The highly male audience experienced what it's like to have 3 toilets for their use.
I bought tickets for my hubby for Valentines Day and had never heard any of Gaslight Athem's music before (he had). Such a great show! We missed Sammy Kay, but Northcote was amazing and sounded so good live. When Gaslight Anthem came out, the crowd went wild and people were on their feet! Great music and a great vibe all night long. Love the Burt and was the perfect fit for 3 great acts.
Great show, love the way they interact with the audience, and switching up the songs so they don't sound like the album is awesome!
Awesome band, waited years to see them, was NOT disappointed. They're a must see no matter what level of a fan you are, kept the show going, sounding consistently better than their albums.
Gaslight are the type of band that need to be seen in smaller more intimate venues, the energy was crazy with every person in attendance singing along with every word of every song. If your a casual fan and have the opportunity to see these guys in a setting like this, don't pass it up; you'll never listen to them the same way again. And gotta say, Joy Formidable put on one wild set!
3rd time I've seen these guys and they haven't disappointed yet.
The Gaslight Anthem did not disappoint. A good mix of old favorites, awesome new songs and some good banter with the crowd. Brian's voice sounded a lot better than some of the shows that you can find on Youtube, I just wish my phone didn't die so that I could have captured some songs on video and some more pics.
What a show! Complete with a long encore set was an amazing live performance. With just the right amount of interaction with the audience, the gaslight anthem was my favorite concert ever! Brian seemed very down to earth and even made it friendly for all ages with no swearing. With a live performance this good I feel fortunate to have seen them while the tickets were cheap because this band is sure to be just hitting their stride. You must see this band live to truly appreciate their talent!
Such an amazing show. The energy was huge both offstage and on stage. GLA really rocked it. They played all of their greatest hits.
This was such a great venue or this show. Small, intimate with great acoustics. It was a hot, sweaty summer night with people packed to the rafters. Gaslight set the stage for the evening by acknowledging that they would not be playin the whole new album because that is not what peoe know and are there for. Opening with 'great expectations' gave the crowd great expectations and they did not disappoint. A great mix of the albums gave a fantastic evening. The evening ende with a rocking cover of Baba O'Reily. A must-see show!
These guys absolutley killed it on Monday night!! If you were there you know what I am talking about.
The band and crowd energy were fantastic. They played for over an hour and then followed it with a 45 minute encore.
3rd time I've seen them, definitely the tightest! Brian gave his guitar to someone else for a few songs, so he was moving around stage a lot which was neat. Definitely a good show. Everyone but Benny met with fans after the show too!
The Gaslight Anthem took over Radio City Music Hall! With the 'home' crowd behind them, the band played all of the hits.
Brian was amazing as always, they played a good balance of songs from each of their three albums and the EP. They kept the crowd going all night long and you could tell that these guys loved what they do as they fed off the energy of the crowd. As for the opening acts, I missed Fake Problems but I caught The Menzingers, another one of my favorite bands. As I was floating through the crowd it was evident that they were impressed with what they saw, so kudos to those guys. I actually got Tom and Eric to sign my Menzingers t-shirt when they were hanging around the merch table after the show. All I can say is, Edmonton loves the Gaslight Anthem and hope they come back soon.
The band stays true to their roots and themselves and delivered an exceptional show for their fans. They were tight, fun to watch and finished with a booming 8 song encore. Awesome show for any music fan, truly amazing and genuine performers.
Another awesome, awesome show, these guys always appreciate the audience and show it. Encore lasted 45 minutes with Brian Fallon's voice trying to kick out and he still kept going (he had the flu). If you haven't heard these guys yet listen to "The '59 Sound". Spent most of my time bellowing the lyrics. Been watching these guys grow for the past few years, would love to see GA get even bigger, they deserve it. Seeing the band come out to the walkway above and watch during Fake Problems and freaking out at the size of the crowd made me giggle.
So great, I will definitely pay to hear those awesome tunes again!!
Overall a great show with a nice long set & encore. Opening bands both offered a different sound and I would probably see The Menzingers again based on this show. The Gaslight Anthem were full of energy, it was nice to see a band that genuinely seemed to be having fun throughout the entire performance.
