About

Since premiering at Broadway’s Gershwin Theatre in 2003, WICKED has been mesmerizing audiences and breaking records, becoming the second highest-grossing musical in Broadway history with over $1.4 billion in tickets sold. Composer-lyricist Stephen Schwartz and book writer Winnie Holzman’s magical “untold true story of the Witches of Oz” has been nominated for 10 Tony Awards — winning three — including Idina Menzel for Best Actress in a Musical as heroine Elphaba. With a captivating score that includes the hits “Defying Gravity” and “For Good,” the WICKED cast album won Best Musical Show Album at the 47th Grammy Awards, with Time magazine cheering, “If every musical had a brain, a heart, and the courage of WICKED, Broadway really would be a magical place.” In addition to Menzel, the star-studded original cast included Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda, Norbert Leo Butz as Fiyero, Joel Grey as the Wizard, Carole Shelley as Madame Morrible, Christopher Fitzgerald as Boq, Michelle Federer as Nessarose, and William Youmans as Doctor Dillamond. WICKED is also the fourth longest-running show in Broadway history.

    Very Entertaining

by Kaptin on 2011-08-29Gershwin Theatre - New York

A very creative and well thought out back sotry to the Wizard of OZ! I wasn't expecting much from this musical but I was pleasently surprized but the great acting and fun story. Especially the leading ladies were both very entertraining to watch and carried the story with pride. If you can suspend your current times serious mind and consider what a "Prequel" to the Wiz. of Oz would be like then this musical is for you. Fun, Funny & if you look deep enough it speaks of political problems that follow all people in positions in the public eye. Enteratining at various levels!

Wicked was fantastic! It was funny, witty, at times quite emotional, and very original. The production was impressive and the cast did a great job. I loved every minute of the show, it was worth every dollar the ticket cost!

    Wicked Was, Well, You Know...Wicked!

by Pdale on 2011-08-26Gershwin Theatre - New York

Great show, excellent performances and an overall satisfying theatre experience. The only downsides were audience members who talked throughout, took photos and the freezing temperature inside the theatre causing many to try and cover up, wear sweaters over their legs etc. Love the show.

    The Show was amazing but...

by 3Angels on 2011-08-25Gershwin Theatre - New York

The show was spectacular, definitely a must see in New York City. However, the front row of the mezzanine had an obstructed view which we didn't know before purchasing the tickets, nor did the people around us. I can say for more reasons than one that the show kept us on the edge of our seats!

    Amazing!

by dentelle3x4 on 2011-08-10Gershwin Theatre - New York

I was familiar with the story and some of the music before I even went., so I thought that perhaps I might find it dull. I was wrong. The story was woven so perfectly that there were so many nuances and tie-ins that you had to watch to enjoy. The musical performances were so good that I could feel tears coming to my eyes--during HAPPY moments! The story was great, the performances were spot-on, and if you are going to see ANY production I would tell you to go to THIS ONE. It was THAT good! We travelled to NY city to do all the sights, and of all of the things we did, Wicked was our very favourite.

    Wicked in NYC!

by LouLou7 on 2011-08-06Gershwin Theatre - New York

Saw Wicked in NYC & was totally worth the money! Both main characters; Galinda & Elphaba had amazing voices projecting throughout the Gershwin theatre. Sat 5th row balcony on right side of theatre & enjoyed the full view. Would totally recommend this to anyone interested in seeing a broadway show in NYC! My only complaint was that afterwards, we had lined up to purchase souvenirs from the show and wasnt given enough time. We felt as if they wanted us out of the building ASAP so they could close up shop. Considering they are trying to promote their merchandise, you would think that they would give you suffient time to purchase the goods but instead one is left with the impression that "get out, the show is done... Goodnight!"

    Wicked is Wonderful !!!

by Gojoro on 2011-07-22Gershwin Theatre - New York

I took my 13 year old daughter to the play for her birthday and it was her favorite moment of our New York trip. We were emotionally moved by the storyline. The interpretation and development of the play in regards to the original Wizard of Ox was exceptional. I was surprised often by plot twists which flowed so well with the original play but created a moving and powerful story of its own. Coupled with outstanding performances of individual characters, the whole production and creative set designs put the whole experience over the top. This is a must see for your entire family.

    Wicked Was Amazing

by spare on 2011-07-08Gershwin Theatre - New York

What is there to say that hasn't already been said? Wicked is one of the best plays on Broadway, and one of the best musicals of all time. Though I would have loved to have seen this when Kristen Chenowith performed, it was nevertheless an exceptional performance. I would definitely see it again.

    Lives up to the hype

by Britchick40 on 2011-07-01Gershwin Theatre - New York

Packed house, sold our spare ticket to a scalper and did not expect to see anyone beside us, but no sooner did we sit down than our sold ticket seat was filled. These tix are in hot demand and now I know why. The plot is well thought out and Elphaba had the best voice I have heard in a musical. Anyone going to New York should get tickets well in advance for this show through Ticketmaster as you cannot get them through TKTS. Worth every penny

Galinda was a fun role to play. Actress did a great job! I wasn't expecting that amount of humour! Music didn't stay in my head but was not the focal point. Was able to follow story line. Will give me a different perspective when I watch Wizard of Oz next time.
