About

Extreme alt-rock outfit AFI, short for A Fire Inside, continue to keep their punk rock spirit alive after more than two decades together. The four-piece California band, impressively composed of the same lineup since 1998, has revitalized hardcore punk ever since their 1991 beginning, though the crew didn’t see mainstream success until their 2003 platinum-selling “Sing the Sorrow.”

Since that time, AFI has satiated ticket holders at amped up concerts nationwide, either on their own headlining runs or as part of the Vans Warped Tour on several occasions.

After a four-year recording hiatus, AFI unveiled its ninth studio set, “Burials,” in October 2013. The collection, produced by Gil Norton (Foo Fighters, Jimmy Eat World), peaked at No. 9 on The Billboard 200. Some tracks on the Republic Records release (“17 Crimes” and “I Hope You Suffer” for example) lean more toward hard rock than horror punk or goth-punk, both labels AFI’s received with past work.

    Okay

    by Nightmare1 on 2010-01-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

They opened the doors at 7pm, Took one hour for the first band to come on, they were horrible, the worst band I have ever heard, Couldnt understand anything they were saying, then it was about another hour until a.f.i Played they were good, only played for an hour half, They could of done better, at most concerts when they are over, they leave and usually come back and play more, they also didnt play many songs. I still like them but three days grace concert was better than this, Still love a.f,i But could of done better

AFI are pretty much veterans when it comes to the music game, and they certainly showed it here. The set list was outstanding, their connection to each other were terrific and there stage presence was perfection, my only problem with it was that it was too short! Given I was a huge fan before the show so I may come off a bit biased, but they were definitely one of the best acts I've seen!

AFI Puts on a spectacular show!

by hockeygal on 2010-01-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Second time seeing AFI in concert and the show was so awesome! I was expecting them to play more of their newer songs off the latest album but they played a lot of their old ones as well. The atmosphere was incredible and intimate. It was a lot of fun, the band and the crowd were really into it.

    Not for me

by Flobee on 2010-01-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Sorry to say but this concert just made me feel sad, what happened to "I want a mohawk" and "Cereal Wars" and one of my favs "Third Season". It was dissapointing but I did see other kids liking it.

    Afi set too short

by RamJam on 2010-01-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Decent enough show but 1hr? Seriously? We pay good capitol for a show & get an hour set? I know Davey has to get his eyeliner & hair touched up but coming back on stage after a 45min set is hardly an encore. Give us the goods here boys.

    Too Short

by DisappointedVancouverAFI on 2010-01-25Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I've waited 3 years for AFI to come back to Vancouver because the last time they played in Vancouver was part of VirginFest. When I found out they were playing the Commodore I was excited because they are the best band and because it's the best venue ever. However, I was extremely disappointed in their set list and even more so at the length they played. They came on stage @ 9:15 pm, played until 10:08 pm, came back for an encore and finished completely @ 10:22 pm! WTF is that!?? They played only an hour, including their encore and they played no old songs! Their VirginFest outing was way better and probably longer!

    The AFI Concert...

    by x3qoHx on 2009-11-16Sound Academy - Toronto

At the beginning, the Gallows were pretty awesome. But I was edgy becasue i wanted to hear AFI. So because of that, i couldn't fully enjoy Gallows. Then i got super irritated becuase the sound check and all took longer (maybe because I'm just impatient). Then when they finally got out i was over joyede. They were awesome. Where I was standing I couldn't see Adam so...ya. The actual Sound Academy caught me of guard. Wasn't expecting that, but whatever. Wish there where more things to buy and that AFI stayed a little after the show. I'd definetly would go again.

AFI are excellent performers, and Davie is a great singer. I would have enjoyed if AFI spoke about animal rights and being vegan. The show was excellent and the crowd was good.

    A.F.I.

by LadyMelisande on 2009-11-11Sound Academy - Toronto

I was absolutely blow away! A.F.I. was solid, a tight band to see live. I was so very plesantly surprised to see that they give an amazing show live as they produce in the studio. Kudos to the band for living up to their name! The venue, Sound Academy, has a great sound system and my hats off to the sound men/women (?). I could not have had a better time, nor enjoyed the band as much as I did without all these things considered. Also a mention that those who work at Sound Academy deserve a mention. Thanks for an amazing evening!

I saw the A.F.I show at the Sound Academy last night. It was fantastic. Davey's voice is so amazing, they sound great live. I would definately recommend to anyone that if given the opportunity to see A.F.I. in concert, do it!!! you won't regret it. I can't wait until the next show. Their opening act the Gallows were great too. The singer was really funny!

Great but a little shorter than expected

    by bert61 on 2009-11-11Sound Academy - Toronto

AFI was great to see live. They have a lot of energy on stage and Davey is an amazing performer and singer. They played all of their hits. Only negative was they only played for about an hour and 15 minutes and there was a long break before they came on stage after the opening act. Still, it was a lot of fun.
