  • Magically haunting

by Mothettah on 2024-10-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The Grimm show was such a beautiful performance. It was the first ballet I've attended and it was such an amazing experience. I only wish I had put the money out for better tickets! I will definitely be attending another ballet by Alberta Ballet. I can't wait!

  • Great dancing, clever choreography, terrible music

by Decanus on 2024-10-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

The synthetic music took genius from the choreographer to make a dance out of it. The Grimms fairy tales needed surtitles to help the audience follow the story line. The dancers were suffering from a lack of music. The audience response, which was lukewarm, told everything. But the dancers were magnificent.

  • Grimm....

by Tee on 2024-10-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 3 out of 5

Weird opening, alright premise, beautiful dancers. Mostly enjoyable, occasionally the music was painful to listen to. Thankfully the opening number was the worst of it. Get past that and it was decent. Not the best ballet I've seen, but not the worst.

  • Absolutely Magical!

by Rossington on 2024-10-22Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The Alberta Ballet production of Grimm was absolutely magical! It was both dark and whimsical and each set was well designed. Very cool and contemporary ballet production!

  • Grimm Premiere

by Sue J on 2024-10-21Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Dancing/choreography and costumes were 5 star. Interesting theme/concept that flowed well. Music was more like sounds. Very atonal and very repetitive. I would give the sounds 2-3 stars. I hope that as a world premiere, this ballet is picked up to perform in other cities.

  • Grimm Ballet not Grim but Great!

by MakiTruus on 2024-10-19Rating: 5 out of 5

Grimm Ballet - beautifully weird and elegantly macabre. An original score that permeates the atmosphere like tendrils of smoke curling around a night fire. Dancing that emoted tenderness, malevolence, playfulness and love. Alberta Ballet absolutely knocked it out of the park. An amazing ballet performance that blends 7 Grimm Fairy tales, this world premiere is a classic in the making. I wish there was more than one weekend so I could see it again.

  • An amazingly beautiful ballet

by Ely on 2024-09-25Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

La Sylphide is a romantic, classical tale about a man who is engaged to a woman in real life, and then falls in love with a beautiful nymph. Loved everything about this ballet. The performers who were recruited from around the world, were amazing!

  • Short and sweet?

by Beautiful.1 on 2024-09-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Was lovely, but it felt like it was a shorter production than last ballet I saw. 🄓 More of a quick production ballet, but they did say as much in that it was a four week rehersal.

  • Amazing! Loved it!

by Tree on 2024-09-24Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

The ballet was exquisite! The dancers incredible and the costumes and setting stunning! I’m not a regular at the ballet but will definitely be looking out for the next performances at the Jubilee theatre!

  • La Sylphide

by Hope1 on 2024-09-23Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

This production was amazing. I am fortunate to have been able to attend. The dancers were awesome. The Scottish band at the beginning was a terrific idea. La Sylphide is one of my favourite ballets. I’m very happy Alberta Ballet was able to add it to their repertoire.

I really enjoyed the show, especially the modern twist on the Little Red Riding Hood in Der Wolf. Alberta Ballet is world-class, amazing choreography, costumes and performance!

  • Ballet Love.

by Dez on 2024-05-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The ballet was amazing, loved the story renditions. The Dancing was magnificent. My only critic is that the Base (sound) was set a touch too loud on the second half and did irritate my ears some. Not enough to take a way the enjoyment, yet would have been perfect at a slightly lower level.

  • Excellent show

by MS on 2024-05-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

A very interesting program- Der Wolf was superb- beautiful and thought provoking. The choreography was very interesting, lively and nicely aligned with a variety of musical styles. The principles were both wonderful dancers as were the supporting dancers. The Right of Spring is such a great pre-WW1 piece of primal rhythmic music and offers so much opportunity of expression to a ballet troupe. Very well executed.

  • Provocative and Enchanting

by J. Robertson on 2024-05-07Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The double feature (Der Wolf and the Rite of Spring) was incredibly masterful. We immersed into every moment and enjoyed such a unique afternoon as a family. Our 3 children LOVED it! Brava to the dancers and crew for such a gift of art

  • Fantastic show! Contemporary Ballet at its finest!

by ER on 2024-05-05Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Both pieces were so beautiful. Each was a great work of art by the choreographers, executed excellently by the outstanding dancers of Alberta Ballet! I’m so impressed by this company and can’t wait for next season!

  • so-so

Price policy of Jubilee needs improvement. They don't have discount/free tickets for small kids. I asked about this. The first answer was that each patron needs a ticket and this is Fire Code requirement. After I purchase a ticket I can have my kid on my laps (but I pay for two equal tickets anyway!). This is not true, Fire Code does not dictate prices. If ticket is required, issue it for free! I told this to their rep. Got an answer that this is internal Jubilee policy, not Fire Code, to charge full price. Any policy, if it is wrong can be changed. We have kids discounts (and expect them) in air planes, restaurants, everywhere. Why ballet is different? How can young family with 3 small kids can afford to by 5 full-priced tickets?
