About

Otherness is the first album in over a decade from the group Rolling Stone declared "put Canadian post-hardcore on the map." Five guys playing aggressive rock grew to a hockey-arena headlining phenomenon while pushing and pulling between spirited guitar leads, melodic might, and emotional weight.

AOF released four hugely successful studio albums, all Music Canada Platinum-certified: Alexisonfire (2002), Watch Out (2004), Crisis (2006), and Old Crows / Young Cardinals (2009). Kerrang! counted Crisis (2006) among the 50 Best Albums of the 21st Century, alongside undeniable classics from Green Day, Muse, Slipknot, My Chemical Romance, Blink-182, and Fall Out Boy. After Crisis hit No. 1 in Canada, at a stage where many bands compromise in search of greater success, Alexisonfire doubled down with even heavier riffs on album four, Old Crows/Young Cardinals. Released in 2009, it became their highest-charting record in America.

The guys never sacrificed the punk soul summoned in beat-up vans and basement shows. Blending their classic sound with new and forward-thinking textures, they produced Otherness themselves. Jonah Falco of Fucked Up mixed.

As Revolver Magazine noted in 2019: "It's hard to overstate the influence Alexisonfire had in post-hardcore through the mid-2000s, their combination of singing and screaming setting the blueprint for many artists to come."

    Best Sendoff Ever

    by maar12 on 2012-12-29Sound Academy - Toronto

I don't go to many concerts (maybe 1 a year), but for Alexis, I had to see them off before they finished. They've been my favourite band since I saw the "Pulmonary Archery" video on TV when I was 13. The show was sold out, so I was glad to have gotten my ticket during the pre-sale in the summer. When Fucked Up finished their set, I squished my way through the crowd to get near the front. I'm not a pit guy, but for this band I had to join in. As soon as they hit the stage and opened with "Drunks, Lovers, Sinners, and Saints", the crowd flew toward the stage and I was caught screaming and sweating with the rest of my fellow Alexis fans. It felt so good to be in that crowd, sweat and beer flying everywhere. And the setlist was incredible. I couldn't have asked for much better on their farewell tour. I hung back for the last 5 or 6 songs to catch my breath and try to dry off. They ended the show with their encore of "Rough Hands", "Young Cardinals", and, of course, "Happiness by the Kilowatt" (so good). Had I the money, I'd have seen their final show in Hamilton, but I can say with confidence that this was more than enough for me to say goodbye to The Only Band Ever. I would have hated myself if I didn't see this show, so I'm glad I did. These guys will continue to live on through my iTunes and, just like my dad raised me on Rolling Stones and The Beatles, I'll be raising my future kids on this awesome, talented band. There is speculation they'll be getting back together. If that happens, I'll be sure to see their first show back!

    Fantastic farewell show

    by muggs1393 on 2012-12-29Sound Academy - Toronto

I love AOF and I think I have seen them about 10 times now. Georges voice was much better - the rest did him well. The clean look for Steel was fantastic! Dallas and Wade were their charming selves, telling stories to the crowd. This show only got a 4 out of 5 because the venue is horrible. The Sound Academy's sound was not good at all, the venue is oddly shaped, parking is way over priced and it is no where near anything else.

R.I.P. to the Only Band Ever. Alexisonfire!

by LongLiveOurYouth on 2012-12-28Métropolis - Montreal

10 years ago this band was an unknown gem just waiting to be picked up. 10 Years later and they're still rocking like the kids they used to be. Unfortunately, not all the band members were as dedicated as they once were, now with new found glory in pursuing another avenues, there was a slightly noticeable awkwardness and lack of group cohesion that dictates that their breakup would be inevitable. Despite this faint dysfunctionality, the band played to their audience and won us all over one last time with a perfect setlist. The venue was incredible, brilliantly designed and executed. Best venue to see any show at, and an amazing place to see Alexisonfire together for the final time. I'll never forget the night I saw Alexisonfire for the last time. Even if Dallas Green is a douche.

    Amazing! Wait... what happened?

by Disappoint on 2012-12-28BMO Centre - Calgary

The show was amazing overall, and well worth the money... but what happened to the "encore"? They chose such a slow song, it seemed half-assed and the last unbearable screetching note went on for 5 mins. Was the worst encore I've ever seen. :(

    AOF ROCKED! BMO Centre SUCKED!!!

    by ikoll2222 on 2012-12-27BMO Centre - Calgary

AOF was awesome but the venue stank. I bought tickets for reserved seating but ticketmaster changes the venue to stand-up only. For a person with a bad back it ruined the event for me. I'm also short so I had to stand way at the back in order to see above everyone. BS

    Awesome Experience!

by LGBrooks on 2012-12-26BMO Centre - Calgary

My husband and I got the Meet and Greet package and it was great! The guys were super cool and humble, signed all our swag, took pictures, and Dallas even recorded a little message for a friend who couldn't make it. The show was awesome! Lots of energy! Most impressive was the consistency of Georges' vocals - to scream non-stop for as long as he did without showing any sign of strain - finely tuned. I was a little bummed they didn't play "Midnight Regulations" but they played all the other greats, so I didn't mind. All in all, they put on a great show! They will be missed.

    Great show

by Jennnn on 2012-12-22BMO Centre - Calgary

The show was great. The band played all the songs you could want to hear and sounded really good. The staff was prepared for the amount of people at the show and everything moved smoothly including security and beer lines.
