Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013, the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.
Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?" The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.
Amazing as always, just wish it could have been longer
A very unforgettable experience. Great performance with a wonderful band’s set list
I have been waiting a long time to see them in a small venue and it did not disappoint!! Killer show!!
I have not been to a live event in some time and this show was the one to watch. Great venue, not a bad seat in the house, though a few sound issues (first show). Alice in Chains put on an excellent show.
Great seats in row B. Sound was excellent. Love this band and have seen them for years. Was a treat to hear them at Massey Hall.
Massey Hall is still one of the best places to see a show in Toronto. Not only is it intimate but the sound is incredible. Now with Alice in Chains being one of my favorite bands it's very hard for me to say anything other than they're amazing and they were at Toronto on May 1st. If you've never seen them do yourself a favor and go get a ticket
What a great mix of old and new - I'm not up to speed on their newer stuff, but it didn't matter - they catered to everyone.
Band was fantastic, terrible seat. Had view of 75% of the stage. People in front standing all the time including in the stairs, and venue staff was not able to control them.
Excellent concert. Played good mix of old and new stuff.
absoulutely amazing show...these guys get better with age...ill see them every chance I can
An amazing concert! AIC did a great show! Only thing was that it was too short, was done before 11 For what I paid it should have been a normal length of time.
Great sound as usual!!! Played a good mix of old and new songs.
I've seen them twice now and will continue to see them every time they come back to town.
Some of the Hard Rock Live was closed so it was an intimate show. I got tickets on presale and was NOT disappointed. All the greats and some rocking new tunes. AIC
We've pass a very good evening. They played their very best old stuff and some of their new album.
I've seen them four times now in recent years and this was one of my favorites. The sound at the Metropolis is incredible. And when Alice in Chains plays there you know that the love the atmosphere and the sound also the crowd loves singing along and they can be heard in the mix due to the nature of the venue. A++ will go and see them everytime they come the crowd is always awesome and they have such a desire to be on that stage performing it's refreshing to see.
I was very excited to have the opportunity to see Alice In Chains. I was originally introduced to their music in 2001 when Layne Staley was still around. A sad loss. To begin with, two opening bands..too much. Finally at 9:45 the band came on and their beginning energy was great and I quickly forgot my previous irritation. As they continued to perform their energy faded and there seemed to be a lack of interest. All of a sudden, poof! they exit stage and the encore chants begin. WOW! That was early and then just 2 songs later the announcement " This is our last one". So, was I horribly disappointed, no. Would I say this was a fantastic performance, again, no. It was OK, left me wanting more.
great show monster truck was a hard act to follow but alice in chains were amazing and put on a great show.
Seeing this band is a no-brainer...of course Alice In Chains are going to be great. Metropolis in Montreal is also a highly recommended venue. Great floor, great balcony, plenty of bars to grab a drink, sound is good and prime location. If you are in Montreal, definitely check out who is playing there. It's a great spot.
Saw the new Alice in Chains on their first tour and just in Hamilton. They are tight and it looked like they were having fun. The quality of the show was great. Down in a Hole was unreal, slowed down and fantastic! The general consensus after the show was it was short....an hour and half would have been fine by me.
