About

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

Alice In Chains was great@ First Ontario Centre

    by Hard1Days2Night on 2014-08-25FirstOntario Centre - Hamilton

I thought the concert was fantastic. They sound very close to their albums and was highly impressed. I love the song "No Excuses from their Jar of Flies CD. I thought they could of played for at least 2 hours. I felt it was cut a little short at about less than an hour and a half. All in all I would recommend this group to my firends.

Rarely to you go to a concert without sitting through the opening band wishing they'd just hurry up so you can see the main act but Monster Truck rocked as did Alice in Chains of course!!!

This was a great concert! Didn't get to hear the first band the second one was good, and Alice in Chains was even better! Have always enjoyed their music, and they played all my favorite songs as well.

    Show start time was wrong

by Anonymous on 2014-05-20The Shoe at Horseshoe Casino Cincinnati - Cincinnati

Show was listed as an 8pm start. Arrived at 7:30 only to find that the opening band (Monster Truck) had already played. Very disappointed as we were looking forward to seeing them. I feel like half my ticket price was wasted, not to mention the 8 hour drive to get there.

    Amazing Alice in Chains!

by Cherylisthyname on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

Amazing show did not disappoint! Wish I could see them again and again until entire catalogue old and new is covered...great energy from start to finish and the crowd was totally into it - played few new songs but the ability to carry the old in the spirit and sound of Layne is most memorable for me I'd travel to see this show again :)

Great time was had by all!!

by Richeguy on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

I was at the last concert they came to play in Montreal. It was packed then and there were more people this time. As it was then, the band was amazing. The crowd went nuts. I think they were amazed when the crowd sung their songs with such vigor and were quite loud. Can't wait till the next album and concert. Great venue. Would like to also say a few words for Monster Truck. Never heard about them before and was pleased to hear them open up for Alice. Great band, powerful voice and incredible musicians. And they be Canadian!

    Keeping on

    by RCA1 on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

First thing that came to mind when leaving for the hotel, was Being tankefull that rest of the band as continue playing togheter even having lost band members, they recorded two amazing records lately and hearing these songs live was something else. Opening Band is surelly something to watch over the next few years, AIC played their greatest hits, it was hot, it was loud...it was nice. Thanks!!!

Very Good - Very Hot - Not long enough

by Ibanez on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

It was a very solid show. These guys can play live music, no problem. I just believe that bands that only do 1h25, maybe an 1h30, is not enough. They have plenty of material and should be able to do 1h45 - 2h00.

    good but too short...

by jaguargod on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

If you saw Alice in chains on their 2010 tour for Black Gives Way to Blue...then picture this...it was the same show with 3 new songs and jerry Cantrell's new hair cut. But they are still Alice in Chains...and they are still one of the best bands not only of the 90's...but IMO top 10 of all time. Cantrell is still the man and new singer William duvall, while not having the mystique and charm of Layne Staley, makes up for it with his amazing voice. And even though it was the same thing as last time...I would still go see them again tomorrow and the next week...

Alice In Chains - sweltering hot and awesome!

    by Seagull1975 on 2013-07-18Métropolis - Montreal

For those naysayers about WIlliam DuVall taking over Layne Staley, swallow your pride and all; AIC delivered the goods in a classy manner. I could have used a bit more crowd-band interaction, but they sure played their best with their hearts out. Venue was an oven, literally, but we were in for a sweaty treat.

Like always with Alice in chains, an excellent and honnest performance. Although it was an extremely hot night, we had a lot of fun. Métropolis is without a doubt the best place in Montréal for concert.

    Monster Truck crushes metal

by crazydazed on 2013-07-15Brandt Centre - Evraz Place - Regina

I will just review in chronological order. I won't buy a Monster Truck CD as their music is not for me, but both times I have seen them, they owned the show. They are solid, tight, and energetic. Exactly what you expect out of a rock band. Chevelle, who I wanted to see the most, was average. The lead singer kept moving his mouth away from the mic, so his lyrics would fade off and you could not hear all of his interactions with the crowd. Their sound is big and you don't even realize it is only a 3 piece. The potential is there for more, but they did not bring it. Alice in Chains sounded amazing, but its drug rock. The concert was too slow, which is why the floor kept thinning out as the show went on. Not too often I look at my watch, hoping a concert will end soon.
