About

Five years after their original frontman, Layne Staley, died of a drug overdose, Alice in Chains made an unlikely return in 2007. Surviving band members Jerry Cantrell, Mike Inez, and Sean Kinney recruited frontman William DuVall to join the group, first for some well-received concerts, then to go on tour. Next came a new album, 2009's "Black Gives Way To Blue," which got glowing reviews, entered The Billboard 200 at No. 5, and led to more shows with fast-moving tickets. In 2013,  the band released their second post-Staley album, this time reaching No. 2 on The Billboard 200. The only AIC album to chart higher was 1995's self-titled set -- the band's last with Staley -- which reached No. 1.

Alice in Chains' dark take on rock emerged from the same late '80s Seattle scene that also spawned fellow grunge acts Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden, among others. With Staley at the helm, the band recorded rock radio staples like "Rooster," "Heaven Beside You," "Got Me Wrong," and "Would?"  The band has been nominated for eight Grammy Awards -- including two with DuVall on the mic -- but so far haven't won an award.

    Saturday rock!

by balzsv on 2010-09-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

Mastodon as supporting act was incredibly good, I think they deserve more time on stage. Deftones was good, really energetic. Alice in chains, was fantastic, a few songs from the latest album and many from the old times. Excellent bands for one night!

    Alice In Chains...Awesome!

by Spudd on 2010-09-20Molson Canadian Amphitheatre - Toronto

That was one of the best concerts I've seen in a long time. They didn't play too loud and they sounded just like they do on CD's.

    Alice In Chains Rocks!

by Maggzz on 2010-09-19DTE Energy Music Theatre - Clarkston

Overall, a great concert performed by Alice In Chains. We really like the new singer in the band. The sound was very good and very reminiscent of Alice In Chains of the past. Our only complaint was that we wished that they could have played longer than an hour and a half. There are so many other great songs that we would have loved to hear them play.

Amazing show but I was sick as hell but still had to drag my ass there, wouldn't miss it for the world. Straight up gig, minimal stage show but exactly what I came for...the music.

    Best concert ever!!

by JCritter on 2010-03-19Sound Academy - Toronto

Yes, Layne is no longer with us, but my god William DuVall might as well be his reincarnated voice. Great performance and audience interaction. This concert exceeded my expectations, and my expectations were VERY high.

    AIC @ Sound Academy

by Rddwsghhv on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Pleasantly surprised. Wasn't sure about this Duvall guy live having seen Staley a few times in the 90s, but he does a great job.

18 years of anticipation, wasn't let down!

by Grungegirl on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

I have wanted to see A.I.C. perform live for 18 years now, and I was not disappointed. They were phenominal, best live show I have ever seen!!! It would be impossible to explain the intimacy of the show, and the feel of the crowd, you would have to have been there. Standing and chatting with other fans while waiting for the show to start was great too...people talking about when they discovered this band...I met a 19 year old kid at the show and was pleased to see a new generation having the same passion for this band as I did when I was in high school! Grunge lives on..............first concert I have ever seen where the crowd sang every single song, word for word with the band......

My prefered way to spend St.Patrick's day

by Mantrayana on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Having seen AIC once before I was alittle bit taken back by the fullness of the venue; the show was sold out and me and my coleague were sholder to sholder sometimes being unpleasantly shoved as others struggled to get a better possition. However a few songs in that inconvenience was forgotten. This show triumphed the last time I had seen them which was on the Velvet Revolver. The band played songs that were much less common such as sickman, got me wrong, we die young, and lesson learned. A good blend of singles and rarities. I felt down in a hole could have been done better. Downside? It was only two hours.

by SuzanOttawa on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

This was the best concert of my life!! I waited 14 years to see Alice in Chains and they did not disappoint!! They played the perfect ratio of old and new songs. The venue was also amazing. Not a bad view in the house and the sound was incredible! I would strongly advise anyone to see Alice in Chains on this tour for an amazing, intimate show!

    Perfect

    by mo1722 on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Everyone went to this concert with high expectations. I don't think anyone was disappointed. There was a great combination of old and new songs and everyone knew all the lyrics. Four thousand people singing Man in the Box, Rooster and Your Decision - wow! There was this nostalgic feeling that prevailed in the air though - you could sense it. Sort of that bittersweet air of what had been lost many years ago. William Duvall has been able to overcome that though for this band and the crowd sensed it and just moved on to what is now Alice In Chains. Amazing concert! Loved it.

You have to see them live. You just have to. Best show i have been to in years. The opening act wasn't very good, but didn't take anything away. There's no use debating on buying tickets because they are totally worth every penny.

Black gives way to black eyes!

by Rackula on 2010-03-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Alice in chains has been my favourite band since I can remember. This was my fourth time seeing them (without Layne). I loved the energy from the crowd and the energy from the band was the best I have seen yet from them. At the end the band threw some picks and sticks into the audience. I felt one bounce off of my head so i turned around to pick it up and bashed heads with another dude. He then said, "You can have it!" So I grabbed it and started looking for my friends. Which I couldn't find, I then felt my eye and realized had a bump the size of a golfball on it. I immediately went to the medic, then to the hospital. Spent 3 hours in St. Joe's to find that nothing looked broken and that I just need to keep us on it. Now I look like quasimoto and I have a gig of my own in a week. I loved the show and it will definately be one I can never forget! Thanks Jerry....
