    Wonderful Allison Russell and Company

by Ptatty on 2024-02-27Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Though injured, I was kept dancing lightly by an electrifying performance by Allison and band. I loved her talent, energy and compassion and constant interaction with us audience. It was also great that she introduced her stellar band members and their accomplishments several times, with love and respect I haven’t seen since Leonard Cohen and Paul Simon. If she returns to the Vancouver area, I will be there! Great to be back to the commodore after too long away. Glad to see it’s being well loved and used. Efficient coat check, great ticketing system despite my hostility to tech, cleanliness in the busy female toilet and reasonable food prices. Small concerns were difficulties watching from the side due to large speakers directly above too loud for me, even with earplugs. Also I found it difficult to hear lyrics of the opening performer.

    An epic uplifting experience!

by Bmac on 2024-02-26Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

I have been to many excellent concerts in my 70+ years on this planet, having grown up through the 60’s, but they all pale to the musical journey Allison Russell led us through on Friday night. We were treated to Allison and her band giving us nothing short of 110% of themselves for the complete duration of the show. The energy and musical genius they brought was incredible. If you are even slightly interested in blues/roots, americana music you owe it to yourself to experience this beautiful, sincere human being!

    A magical night

by Allison Russell on 2024-02-26Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Allison Russell is a musical phenom blending personal poetry with important issues of social justice, belonging, and taking power back from oppression. Her warmth connects her to her audiences is such a special way making her live performances that much more magical. Her band are stellar. I couldn’t have asked for a better performance experience.

    Allison Russell is the best!

by Ess on 2024-02-26Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

Wonderful show. I'm so glad that I went. The Commodore is a fabulous venue. I was disappointed, however, that Allison came on after 10 p.m. I'd forgotten that this is how it goes sometimes. Madonna is currently being sued for keeping her fans waiting for an inordinate amount of time. I looked around at Allison's audience, and so many of us were over 40. I actually stopped enjoying myself at about 11:30 p.m. I missed what I'm guessing was the last 30 minutes of her show. What I did see was so full of energy, grace, gratitude and love. Her voice, her oboe and her band sing/ play/ perform like I haven't heard in such a long time. I was also disappointed that her opening act, in his telling of such beautiful stories, was spoken over. Every time he paused for a breath, all I could hear was a buzz of rude people. I was standing right at the front, so I heard most of his story, but the buzz was distracting. Too bad, and I'm glad I wasn't standing, or sitting, at the back. We all needed to hear his story, but by 9:15 p.m., or so, I was ready for Allison to come on, and his appeal waned. Better for the opening act to come on close to 8 pm and for the doors to open earlier for a sold out show. If it had been a very cold rainy night, chatting in the line-up would have been extra sad and uncomfortable.
