Great show! Highly recommended! I always attend the show as long as it comes to Vancouver.
The performance was excellent. I was very pleased to see the Platin tenors as well as two of his regular sopranos. They were notably absent the last time we saw his concert. He played mostly his regular favorites which is what the audience was wanting but with a few new pieces as well. We didn't want the performance to ever end. The only possible negative was that the sound system was a little tinny at times.
I attended this concert as an 80th birthday gift to my mother-in-law. She loved the concert and all the colourful outfits of the participants as well as the slide shows of pastoral scenes. It was definitely geared towards seniors and although the rest of us enjoyed and appreciated the music, the rest of the show was quite "cheesy" for anyone under 50 years old. One thing...Andre promised a signed CD to anyone whose birthday it was on that day. It happened to be my birthday and when I went to the booth with my ID to get the CD, I was told that he did not sign any of the CD's during intermission and that I would have to go to the website to claim the CD which I wanted to give my mother in law. I thought that wasn't very nice of him. Andre Rieu's music was great but his appeal is definitely for the 60+ crowd.
As expected, Maestro Rieu and his complete ensemble, were splendid. The orchestra were up to their usual tricks and having great fun. My only criticism is that the acoustics and G M Place do not match the standard of such a performance.
Andre Rieu played more than just one type of music at the concert. There were tenors singing, people dancing, fake bull running around and even the performers seem to enjoy it.
My wife and I expected some good music. Boy, were we wrong! The performance of Andre Rieu and his orchestra was way better than we ever could have imagined! This was one of the most memorable concerts we've ever attended. If you get a chance to see him, his orchestra and his guests!!!, don't hesitate, go!
Tired and old fashion showmanship at it's best..........
Some years ago, maybe 9 years ago, I bought the first Andre Rieu DVD, Tuscany, by my personal selection from the V-shop in downtown Vancouver, before that I never heard about Andre Rieu. We love that Tuscany/Paradie DVD and we shared/recommended to many friends. Up to now, I have more than 14 Andre Rieu DVDs. Also, more and more friends they enjoy Andre Rieu show and start to have their own collections. I invited the whole family and friend (five of us) to watch this Vancouver show.............thus we were there.
Was somewhat disappointing from his show that we saw 2 yrs. ago. in that he did not have full range of different performers as he did previously. Andre Rieu did not have the interest & stemina as the MC as we all expected. He seemed tired & disinterested with the audience. His selection of musical performance was not outstanding. He spent to much time coming off & on stage again & again; rather than perform during his concert. Would not go to see him again. Can get better entertainment on his T.V. shows
The orchestra and Andre Rieu were good as a show for people who were familiar with their TV extravaganzas. The music played was lovely, but far too short...all abbreviated for people with short attention spans. There was as much "chat" as music in the first half of the show, all a little lack-lustre. They are excellent musicians, so I would have liked to have a better sound system. I caught a piece of a show on TV once, and the sound was much better! I felt, throughout, that I had to strain to hear the piano, or the even the trumpets, as individual instruments. The big screens helped with visibility, but I felt like I was in GM Place to watch TV! Also, the cameras focused on Rieu, and the stage-front people most of the time, and it would have been better to follow some of the soloists in each piece, and perhaps pan back so we could see larger parts of the orchestra. The second half improved considerably in energy and musical content, and the whole encore show was excellent (though camera work and sound were still a disappointment). It meant people were leaving over a long period of time, so the rush out wasn't bad. For the price of the tickets (I purchased mid-range, 7 months ahead), I felt it was a disappointment, though my reason for attending was to take my parents, and they seemed content enough (but still commented on the sound being poor).
Although the concert was far from a sellout (slow economy... I guess), the concert was definitely worthwhile. I enjoyed the song selection more than the previous concert back in the fall of 2007. The Australian singer (can't remember her name) was really the star of the show. She has an unbelievable voice. As usual, Andre Rieu likes to have some humor in his shows and I thought it worked well and was not too over-the-top.
excelent!! It was unfogettable event for our whole family: from 6 to 66-years olds!! Looking forwards for the next year concert!
I was enthralled with the music itself. However I think Mr Andre Rieu thinks all Canadians are French. There was so little English in the music chosen and nothing Canadian. I have Mr. Rieu's CD of "New York" and I think he should be doing that kind with English and Canadian music. when in Canada, especially western Canada. The tenors are wonderful but too much of them I believe. Too bad too there is not a nicer spot to hold the event in Vancouver, somehow the GM place is a hockey place and hard to get the atmosphere to match the music of the concert.
We are all so busy. And that is why it was a last minute decision to go and see Andre Rieau; it was my 39th anniversary. It was the optimal choice. For both of us it made it an unforgettable wedding anniversary. Thank you Andre.
A wonderful evening of a beautifully performed variety of music. Extremely talented singers and musicians. Lots of humour. Seeing it in person outdoes what you can see on TV. Delightful evening. The length of the program was amazing. Photo shots on the big screens gave some additional depth to the presentation.
Andre Rieu is a master entertainer. He includes his audience in his performance. He is able to combine classical music with humour and perhaps this is why I saw so many children at the show. His talented musicians are a very colourful sight. No wonder he keeps returning to Vancouver to perform, as he always receives a warm reception. Highly recommended as a great night out.
Awesome evening with the Andre Rieu concert. Loved the opportunity
This was one of the most memorable concerts I have ever attended. The music was terrific, the showmanship was great fun and the whole experience was unbelievably wonderful.
Andre Rieu put on a spectacular show which had great music, very talented singers, comedy and visually a delight. I would highly recommend seeing it and experiencing dancing to the lovely waltzes.
I have all Andre's DVD's and this concert was up to his usual standards. He had the whole audience on their feet. His showman ship is amaizing. I love the interaction between the orchestra members, as well as their interaction with the audience. The music is amaizing as well.
