About

ANI DIFRANCO IN CONCERT:

Alt-rock powerhouse and feminist icon Ani DiFranco continues to be a symbol of activism through music, pulling no punches with her socially conscious songwriting more than 20 years after her debut. At her inspiring live shows DiFranco gives it her all, delivering her unfiltered lyrics with a raw emotionalism that perfectly complements her polished guitar playing. From classics like "Shameless" to newer material like "Whose Side Are You On?", DiFranco covers a wide selection of favorites on her latest tour, never failing to have a blast in the process.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born in Buffalo, NY, DiFranco was a precocious young talent, performing Beatles covers in local bars as early as age nine. Just a few years later she was playing original material in coffee shops, and by age 15 she had moved out of her mother's house to live in her own apartment as an emancipated minor. At age 18 she started her own record company Righteous Records, releasing her self-titled debut album on the label the following year. Over the next two decades DiFranco released a new album nearly every year, touring extensively and earning several Grammy nominations including a Best Contemporary Folk Album nod for 2000's Fellow Workers. Back on the road for her latest tour, the ever-prolific talent will treat fans to never-before-heard material from her upcoming album.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Ani Difranco's performance was truly unforgettable. She changed guitars for every song and even changed some of the acoustics for a few songs. Her voice was even better live!"

"She plays so hard and with such precision. It's like watching the Cirque du Soleil, you see it with your own eyes and you still wonder if it's possible. She's so ceaselessly generous and friendly."

"Her vocals and energy are off the charts. She's funny, engaging and smart. We had a great time. A good mix of the old classics and a couple of brand new ones."

    Amazing show!

by JohnnyEff on 2015-02-05The Danforth Music Hall - Toronto

She played mostly new material that I really dug, it overshadowed the few oldies that she threw in for fun. Now I'm listening to her new cd Allergic to Water and I know all the songs from the show. The CD is great. Highly recommended

    As always...AMAZING!

by Trixabelle on 2014-02-26Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Venue, excellent. Parking, accessible, clean, bright, safe. Seats, fabulous. Opening artist -- Daniel Champagne -- wicked on that guitar! WOW! .... Ani...what can I say? As expected, she was amazing! This was my 4th time seeing her and she was fabulous, wonderful. Strong, beautiful voice, & amazing guitar. She has a beautiful, strong, humble, real stage presence. I love how real she is, as though you are just sitting around and hanging out with her. Just wish she would come to Banff some time soon!

    All around beautiful night!

by Anonymous on 2014-02-26Chan Centre For The Performing Arts - Vancouver

Not only was Ani Difranco amazing as expected, but so too was her opener from Australia, Daniel Champlain (sp?). The Chan Centre is a wonderful venue and we had great seats in a side balcony and enjoyed red wine and chocolate while watching these stunning performers.

    Ani center stage

by Wingy on 2012-04-30Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

Sometimes the simplicity of a single performer speakes volumes. It's been a long time since I first saw her perform at a small club in London Ontario... she still gets all my respect and admiration for what she does! There is no Other!!

I adore Ani Difranco, this is the 7th time I have seen her live, only once was in my home city. I've never regretted it. She is engaging, funny and a talented songwriter/musician. If you have the chance, see her live!

    Ani is amazing as always

by Leman on 2012-04-24Winter Garden Theatre - Toronto

What a great night of Ani!! Playing all by her lonesome on stage, she can captivate an audience with her lovely little giggle. Ani seems happy these days and her music is reflective of it. She played a lot of songs from her new album which is fabulous. My only complaint is that a few more old favourites could have been thrown into the mix. I have seen Ani 6 times and this was the first time "Untouchable Face" was not played. I was also pleasantly surprised at the lovely venue of the Winter Garden Theatre - created a really intimate setting.

Best Ani Show I've ever seen

by Kris420 on 2010-11-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

This was the best Ani show that Iv'e ever seen. She seemed to be in such a great mood and the interaction with the crowd was great! Venue was perfect. So small! Could see everything happening on stage very clearly. Would recommend this show to anyone if they ever had an opportunity to go back in time and see it. Lots of new songs played as well as some old ones that she played on the spur of the moment by request. Bar was not too crowded, Washrooms were very nice as well as the lobby used during intermission (which they also served complimentary mini springrolls & sushi!) Couldn't ask for a better venue! Fantastic!

Ani is not so angry anymore.

by RDFL on 2010-11-08Bronson Centre - Ottawa

I'm a big fan. I love her. I want to be her. However, this show was a bit of a snorefest compared to her usual rockin' roots. When she did treat us to her older material, the place lit up, and I was glad to be there. That woman shreds, with her unique style, biting lyrics and crazy timing. Her encore was dissapointing- 32 Flavours was never my favourite song, having been covered poorly in the past. Her opening act was below average as well. I typically look forward to Ani introducing me to something new and provocotive (a la Hamell on Trial). Overall, Ani only delivered a fraction of what I was hoping for, however I she will always be a brilliant lyricist, no matter what tempo she chooses to deliver her words in, and I will always worship her and her accomplishments. She is a hot, talented, inspirational lady.

    Ani was awesome!

by 2chicks on 2010-11-06Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Ani was awesome! My first time but my partners 6th. I couldn't believe how much sound and passion could emit from such a petite person. The audience however were unbelievably rude. There was not one moment when there wasn't 20+ people wandering around and one chick texting, talking and checking her photos during the concert on her very bright Iphone. Give Ani the respect she deserves and enjoy her performance.... We totally did!

It was an absolute privilege to see Ani Difranco perform live. Have enjoyed and listened to her music for some time now on the Ipod, but live she's incredible. Ani exudes such a positive energy, which is magnified by her incredible voice. Thanks Ani for the great show!

by Chantou on 2010-11-06Bronson Centre - Ottawa

Out of the three times I've seen her I feel that this was her best perfomance. She has charm and amazing talent. Her voice is incredible and her music is meaningful. I admire her capacity of being true to herself. The sound was great. The place was perfect to truly capture her talent. The band was also a great addition to her music. thank you

    ani continues to amaze

by bellycrawl on 2010-11-05Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Toronto

Ani was better than ever. Her new album is going to be fantastic. The perfformance was excellent. The only downside was the enthusiasm of the crowd. They kept interrupting her while she was talking, to tell her how much they loved her. People, she wants to talk. You bought the tickets. You cheer madly for her. She knows you love her. if you want to show it, listen politely while she speaks. She has something to say. It's worth saying, even if you don't agree with all of it. Don't shout over her to tell her how much you love her.

The concert was spectacular! Her performance was amazing as always, with a good mix of oldies and some new songs. Incredibly moving from beginning to end. The same refreshing, down to earth Ani that we love, coming as herself and nothing else, with her beautifully brutal honesty and open interaction with the audience. I loved it! Will definitely be attending her next concert here. Can't wait!!!

Ani is getting happier as she gets older.....

by Limu on 2009-10-29The Centre In Vancouver For Performing Arts - Vancouver

Loved it! She connects so so well with the audience. I have been listening to her for 16 years now, and she sang the songs that have shaped my angry adolescent years, and intertwined them with introspective songs that are now reflecting a refreshing optimism. She is loved and she loves, she is truthful, she is a mother, she is a wife, and she is hopeful... she isn't hanging her head in shame about her county's foreign policy any more - all the things you need to be to embrace this age we are all living in.
