  • April Wine still kicking!!!

by Enjoyment on 2011-11-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Although not all the band members are original you would have thought they had always been together!!! It was great to be taken back in time by a Great Canadian Band!!!!! Myles still loves what he does!!!!

  • April Wine still kicks ass!

Concert was awesome as I would expect from them. These guys still know how to kick ass!! But as always at just under 2 hours it was not long enough. Want more!!

  • I whine for more April Wine

by Bluenose on 2011-11-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Once again a great performance by a solid cast!! This band catapults me back to my youth. I was in high school the first time I saw April Wine and every time I see them memories of my younger days come flooding back. Their song book is extensive and I wish they could play them all. I will say each time I see them they always leave me wanting more. I think that may be why I come back each year for one more taste. Hey you 40 and 50 somethings take my advice, catch the wave and go see April Wine. You will not be disapointed!!!

  • great show

Myles and the band were at there best again. Played lots of the old stuff and sounded amazing. The Queen Elizabeth Theater is a great venue to watch April Wine and strongly recommend not to miss it next time. Myles still has one of the best voices that this counrty has given us. He sounds the same as he did from the beginning. Way to go April Wine, Great show

  • seems to me they were not into the show

by bdgf on 2011-11-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen April Wine at the Queen Elizabeth Theate the past few years and at this show they just seemed to want to play and get the show over with. The show just seemed to start out of the blue and the band just played until their time was up. The usual bantering from Miles was strangely absent. As much as I like their music I just couldn't feel connected with the show....

  • April Wine is any month of the year

    by jet4jet on 2011-11-07Queen Elizabeth Theatre - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

3rd year in a row at the Queen Elizabeth theatre. 3rd row last 2 years and 8th row this time. Went with friends from Port Colbourne, and was as always a great show. These guys put on a great show year after year. Excellent drum solo. One of Canada's best bands of all time.

I thought the band was EXCELLENT!!! While I enjoyed the small crowd atmosphere, I found the venue set up made it too crowded - the chairs were crammed in to the point that it was uncomfortable. Great music like that needs some elbow room!

  • April Wine was totally awesome!!

by mahl on 2011-10-17Deerfoot Inn & Casino - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

April Wine did not disappoint!! They played favourite tunes from throughout their career. It was fun remembering the songs and how many hits they have (had). It was disappointing to witness the drunk 25 year olds being immature and pretending to pour a drink on someones head and then actually spilling it on their head. The confrontation that took place was unfortunate and ruined the concert for that gentleman and people sitting close by. Also, the "girls nite out" that wouldn't stop talking throughout the concert. I wish people would separate the two...either have a girls nite out or go to a concert. It's really inconsiderate. We didn't pay to hear chat the whole evening! I also don't like the idea of having "general seating". We got to the event at 7:30 and received our wrist bands which ended up being at almost the back of the room!!! This is ridiculous! We could hardly see the band. I prefer that the tickets that my tickets are assigned seating. We were sitting in A128 and A129 seats. Even though I enjoyed April Wine, my thoughts of attending more concerts at the Deerfoot Inn and Casino have changed, for the above reasons.

  • Awesome Concert

Their songs sound better now live than when they were recorded and released for radio way back. Enjoyed it from beginning to end! Want to see them again. April Wine is one of those bands that has definitely been underrated.

  • I definitely like to rock to April Wine!

    by AH1974 on 2011-04-23Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Did most good songs like I like to rock, wanna rock, band's just begun (Last 2 they don't always do!), Roller, Gypsy King, etc! Would've liked "This could be right one", "Weeping widow, and "That's who I am, this is what I do", but I know they don't do those anymore "This could be Right One" best, as sounds lot like 38 special's Back where you belong, got soul stirring 80's sound! Would've preferred Red Robinson or River rock, but allows me to go to 2 shows in night (FeFe Dobson at Vogue, then this one!) Wish Miles Goodwyn, singer, did not always hit us up for money for Juvenile Diabetes! Feel for his son, but cure has already been found, and that's cedarberries to rebuild pancreas! Tons of herbs can cure it!

  • Well aged wine!!

Could have played more of the classics but overall a good show

  • April Wine Plays Hard and Fast

    by Python46 on 2011-04-18Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

As it goes with Great Rock Legends, Ones that stayed true to their style of music, to their Fans. April Wine never strayed to any " Flavour of the day" trend. As was from the first album in 1970, to the Harder Faster Album and all the albums of the 70's. " I Like to Rock" was performed as I had not seen before, a medley of Beatles and Rolling Stones, whole sections of song, lyrics and all. Even though bandmates retire, as in Jerry Mercer's last tour was three years ago. I was lucky enough to see him with the band then. The current drummer/ percussionist Blair Mackay was no disappointment. He slammed a rocking Solo. Bassist Breen Lebeouf has rocking vocals and a style which really compliments the stage , Brian Greenway has always been my favorite guitarist to watch. He makes every song so much fun and with long time bandmate, Frontman, Myles Goodwyn, these four are April Wine, 2011. Myles did the show as a sort of walk down memory lane. He reminisced of he early days, his guitar which he had just got back from an old girlfriend of his fathers. " She was still as sharp as a tack at 82" he beamed," She wanted me to have my old guitar back." He went straight into " Fast train" an awsome mostly instrumental piece. I have seen April Wine four times now. Harder Faster, in Kitchener Ont. April, 1980, Where I was fortunate to meet and greet the band, family members, I got their autographs then, 1984, The Ballad Tour, Victoria, B.C., Milleniun Park, Surrey, B.C. Canada Day, 2008 and this Fantastic show at the famed Commodore Ballroom . I also got to meet and greet the band again. Thanks for all signing my Harder Faster Album, It was on my Bucket list of most desired things. Myles and I have another passion too. Both our kids have Type 1 Diabetes, Please give to help rid the world of this terrible disease. I can't wait to see April Wine again. Oooh What a Night!

  • April wine in April

by HBugyinka on 2011-04-18Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

The band was great. They started with a bang and the hits just kept coming. There were even songs i recognized and didn t even realized they sang. The opening band wasn't so hot, but who cares when April Wine made up for the wait.

Thoroughly enjoyed the performance. This was the 1st time I had seen April Wine surprisingly because I have been to so many concerts back in the 70's & 80's. Small venues like the Clarke Theatre are way better than the large stadiums!!!

  • A great time.

Yes everyone in the building had grey hair. Yes Miles Goodwin's voice was fairly thrashed after being on the road so long. Yes it was just rock n roll. But it was very, very good. Seeing these guys in a small venue was very cool. They seemed genuinely happy to be there doIng what they love. The hits just kept on rolling and they mixed in some great covers and b-sides too. Most impressive were the guitars; with Miles's voice hurting, it was more apparent than ever that this band made its name on some awesome riffs over the years. There was humour and heart whenever Miles spoke and some impressive solos too. If you get the chance to see these guys in a small theatre, take it.
