April Wine Plays Hard and Fast
by Python46 on 2011-04-18Commodore Ballroom - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5As it goes with Great Rock Legends, Ones that stayed true to their style of music, to their Fans. April Wine never strayed to any " Flavour of the day" trend. As was from the first album in 1970, to the Harder Faster Album and all the albums of the 70's. " I Like to Rock" was performed as I had not seen before, a medley of Beatles and Rolling Stones, whole sections of song, lyrics and all. Even though bandmates retire, as in Jerry Mercer's last tour was three years ago. I was lucky enough to see him with the band then. The current drummer/ percussionist Blair Mackay was no disappointment. He slammed a rocking Solo. Bassist Breen Lebeouf has rocking vocals and a style which really compliments the stage , Brian Greenway has always been my favorite guitarist to watch. He makes every song so much fun and with long time bandmate, Frontman, Myles Goodwyn, these four are April Wine, 2011. Myles did the show as a sort of walk down memory lane. He reminisced of he early days, his guitar which he had just got back from an old girlfriend of his fathers. " She was still as sharp as a tack at 82" he beamed," She wanted me to have my old guitar back." He went straight into " Fast train" an awsome mostly instrumental piece. I have seen April Wine four times now. Harder Faster, in Kitchener Ont. April, 1980, Where I was fortunate to meet and greet the band, family members, I got their autographs then, 1984, The Ballad Tour, Victoria, B.C., Milleniun Park, Surrey, B.C. Canada Day, 2008 and this Fantastic show at the famed Commodore Ballroom . I also got to meet and greet the band again. Thanks for all signing my Harder Faster Album, It was on my Bucket list of most desired things. Myles and I have another passion too. Both our kids have Type 1 Diabetes, Please give to help rid the world of this terrible disease. I can't wait to see April Wine again. Oooh What a Night!
