April Wine rocks:) never known this group but my hubby is:) So impressed with the drummer and the guitarist. A perfect concert for the first timer like me to see this. I will do it again when they come back for more concert and will recommend this to my friends.

Fantastic, brilliant! Would highly recommend the venue and April Wine. The only downside was the smoking at the Casino.

Too loud. They didn’t sing all their hits. Too many drum and guitar solos! Also they seemed to have attitude! Was not overly impressed. Of all the concerts we have been to this would be my least favourite

First time at River Cree. Venue was amazing. I’m always happy to see and hear them play. I particularly like the old tunes. It would have been nice if other patrons respected the no video request...holding the phone actually blocks the vision of the patron sitting behind the videographer.

April a Wine drummer has an amazing voice, should do more songs then just the one we heard.

  • Prism / April Wine

by Gettinolder on 2018-05-29Club Regent Event Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Prism's sound and energy levels were spot on. April Wine was too loud and a bit distorted. Unnecessary bass and drum solos when more hits could have been played. Prism-5 stars. April Wine-2 stars.

  • Prism and April Wine

by Yazer on 2018-05-28Club Regent Event Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

Prism was very good to excellent. Totally enjoyed it. April Wine was awful. We couldn't hear him sing because the guitars and sound in general were way too loud. The lead singer was rude to the crowd. He needs to retire soon. It was a waste of my money.

The positives - Prism was excellent... crazy energy, showmanship and professionalism. Couldn't have enjoyed them more!!!! Now... April Wine My wife wanted to walk out after the first 5 or so songs... I talked her out of it and asked her to give them a chance.... THAT.... was a big mistake!!!! Prior to the drum solo, the show was all about showing off guitar riffs, heavy metal drum licks and effects. There were no attempts to keeping true to the songs... and Miles was way out of tune for at least the first couple of them. Apparently he couldn't hear his monitors, so I get that. Then the music got even louder and then went in to overkill. FFS, I'm half-deaf from all the concerts I've been to over the past 40 years and this crap was hurting them. Just like the Bryan Ferry concert... ruined by the sound guys who have no freaking clue about balancing sound. Miles also needs to get that stick out of his a$$ and try to at least appear he's enjoying himself and respect the crowd who shelled out money to watch this $hitshow instead of looking at his fret hand all night. The few times he interacted with the crowd was to chastise the few who took pics. Be happy people still come to your concerts. My star rating of 3 is the balance between Prism's 5 starts and April Wine's 1 star.

  • April wine overpowered by music

The vocals were overpowered by the music despite trying to get it right several times

  • Shock and Awe

Sat in row 22 seat 55 and while the concert was supposedly sold out there were empty seats scattered throughout the venue. I usually like getting closer seats but mine was surprisingly good. Prism was fun. Saw them before as an opening act and this time they were even more polished. April Wine. Wow! I had seen April Wine literally decades earlier in an arena setting. Back then they did their hits etcetera but I never realized what incredible musicians they were. I know the band has changed yada yada, and maybe it's my age or my new found appreciation for these musicians who have 50 years under their belt but Wow! Miles Goodwin was clearly out to show that April Wine can and in particular himself can play some rock. In fact at one point he was almost apologetic for writing and performing a ballad. My biggest dissapointment was that the audience really didn't applaude to the extent I thought the band deserved. Perhaps the average age of the audience being hitting 60 or perhaps they were hoping for more Roller and less 21st Century Psychoid Man, I don't know. Either way, I would love to have taken my 28 year old son with me but when I purchased my ticket there were supposedly no seats left. He would have been blown away seeing he is a musician himself. Ok. I'll say it if I must. If asked to describe the evening I would say Oowatanite!

  • April Wine should retire

by JW64 on 2018-05-28Club Regent Event Centre - WinnipegRating: 1 out of 5

Opening act Prism was good - played their hits and seemed happy while doing it. April Wine was terrible: they were having sound issues , Myles tottered around like he was lost and seemed miserable and also stopped to admonish 'fans' for taking photos and video, and they did not play enough of their hits. Left a concert early for the first time ever in 35 years. Was expecting a lot more from a band that has been around for as long as they have and have so many hits. The only highlight was the drummer performing Weeping Willow.

Second concert of older band, not impressed, more instrumental than actual singing. Prism was much better they at least entertained. April Wine big disappointment.

  • Disappointing

by Anonymous on 2018-05-28Club Regent Event Centre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

I've seen April Wine around 10 times since the The World Is Going Crazy tour in the 70's. Although the musicians are amazing the band should seriously hire a new sound engineer. Myles voice had an annoying echo throughout the concert. Also I know rock n' roll is supposed to be somewhat loud but when you ears are ringing after the concert for an hour you know it's too damn loud! There's no reason for this and it wasn't the first time they have been too loud. Same thing at the Burton Cummings theater last time they were here. They did not play enough of their hits. When they did play some hits the crowd really got into. So would I go see them again, sadly no. Also when the band asks fans not to video them on their iphones and they blatantly continue to so it pisses me off. Show some respect people!
