This show wayyyy exceeded my expectations. With the band losing Stephen Page..I thought for sure they wouldn't be as good. But they played all their old stuff and some great new ones. The band members ALL stepped up and had their own songs! I was really impressed! Great show!

  • BNL still got it!

by PinkShirt on 2010-04-10Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Joel Plaskett was mediocre. He didn't get the crowd too pumped. BNL came out with a bang! They connected to the audience by sharing stories and creating a comfy atmosphere. They displayed their amazing musical talents by all switching instruments and all taking a turn at vocals. Their lyrics have no comparison and the melodies are memorable. The songs also incorporate instruments that aren't always in the spotlight. Overall, an amazing performance! I was one of the youngest in the crowd, but it shows that their music continues to thrive across different generations. Excellent show guys! =)

Josh Plaskett was a refreshing and entertaining surprise, and the entire evening was simply the best concert I have ever seen.

  • Awesome show!

  • BNL in Calgary

by Supernova on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 2 out of 5

I like to think of myself as an above average fan of the group and I went in to this show hoping for the best but knowing it wouldn't be the same without Steven Page. Unfortunately the show just wasn't what BNL shows of the past had been and the crowd felt the same way. Ed did a great job filling in for Steven's parts of songs, but at times he sounded exhausted singing both his part and Steven's part of a song. That being said, Ed killed in his version of What a Good Boy; the group's usual set ender and my highlight of the show. It's too bad that Kevin just doesn't have the strength in his voice to do Steven's support parts in songs dominated by Ed. The joking banter between Ed and his band mates seemed a bit forced too and didn't quite have the chemistry it had with BNL of the past. The band has a very loyal group of fans and I think the tour will still do well, but there is the chance that some fans might not have the interest in seeing this band as a quartet again. I predict a CBC reality series in the mix to find a replacement for Steven. Deep down I hope that the band will take Steve back or that Steve will come back... whichever is the case. Unfortunately I doubt I'd go to another BNL show without a change and hopefully I don't have to wait for a 50 year reunion tour :-(. Holla holla holla!

  • BNL Excellent!

by Oldster on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

BNL at Southern Alberta Jubilee put on a really great show on April 8. Great energy and a wonderful variety of songs - new & old, rauchous & slow, serious & fun. Great banter among the group.

  • Barenaked Ladies put on a great show

by spacecadet on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

It was a great show! I've wanted to see the Barenaked Ladies for 20 years and finally got my chance. About 1/3 of the show were songs from the new album - most of which I hadn't heard previously. The new songs tended to be more ballad-y. The rest included a few of my favourite songs like Lovers in a Dangerous Time, One Week, Pinch Me, the theme to Big Bang Theory and If I Had $1,000,000. The best part about the Barenaked Ladies are the quirky and unexpected moments where they throw in comments and laugh. They looked like they were having a great time.

  • BNL in the Snow!

by Bunkbuddi on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The only bad part about the concert was the freak snow storm in Calgary that left us stranded overnight because Highway Two was closed due to crappy weather. The concert was amazing, excellent entertainers - lots of fun.

  • LOVE FOR THE BARENAKED LADIES

by Anonymous on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

the barenaked ladies are an amazing band. absolutely incredible. i have listened to them my whole life, & their music just never gets old. i would have to say that this time around i greatly missed steven page... having gone to concerts before it just felt alittle sad without him but, the music is as good as ever, and they are as energetic, charming, & funny as ever. gotta love them. cant wait tell there back again!

  • Bare Naked Ladies was amazing

by ShaneG on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I have waited 18 years to see these guys live. I am happy to say they were worth the wait. To my surprise as I was getting tickets...I found out that they are my18 year old step daughter's favourtite band. She said that it was the best birthday present I have given to her. These guys are not only talented but funny and very entertaining. I only wish steven was still with the band as his voice is so unbelievable. That being said Ed was up to the task.

  • BNL was fantastic!

by theGeneral9669 on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

BNL put on a great concert. They played a good mix of classic tunes and a lot of the songs from the new album. They are funny and entertaining, and also incredibly engaging with the audience.

  • BNL is fantastic!

by Becksterama on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Even though they are now without Steven Page, BNL was still funny, witty and amazing. I love this band so much, and will definitely see them next time they come to Calgary.

  • No missing Page! well...not really....

by Guiness33 on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I quite liked BNL concert last night and have to say the only time I missed Steven Page was when I missed Ed singing the old Ed parts. If only Ed could do both, I would have absolutely loved it! Ed does a great job with the Steven parts of the song but the other singers don't have Ed's distinctive voice. All in all, it was a fun concert that kept you entertained, smiling and quite frequently laughing. My suggestion for the band would be either invest in more high tech screens or just skip the screens in the background all together. Very distracting!

  • Fantastic concert

by Teegs on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

The opener, Joel Plaskett, was incredible. I love his music, and to see him perform live was awesome. The Barenaked Ladies were absolutely fantastic. I saw then previously at the Enmax centre in Lethbridge in 2007 when Steven Page was still a member and they were fantastic. I have to say, though, I think I enjoyed them more the second time around. They really proved that they can be great even minus a member. Ed really stepped up as the lead vocalist. It was just a fantastic show.

  • by Anonymous on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 1 out of 5

Without Steven Page, the band managed to crash and burn on "One Week" and sang a barely passable rendition of "If I Had $1000000." Their new music left the fans sitting and praying for the next old tune, followed by additional praying that the old song wouldn't be butchered.

  • WHAT A SHOW!!

by BanffScottie on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

What a night of music and Comedy! You can tell that Kevin, Ed, Jim, and Tyler love what they do, and the friendship they have. The music was a perfect balance of classics and new CD. The new sound is great, and after hearing the new songs live, I couldn't wait to get in the car to hear them again... Another selections of songs that are sure to be BNL classics!!!

They were awesome!!! They are soo talented and funny. You could see what a great camaraderie they all have including the new guy (he has only been with the band 16 years) I would recommend this band to anyone, any age.

  • Amazing (as usual)

by HissettFit on 2010-04-09Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third time I have seen BNL...every show is sooo different and sooo amazing I will keep going as long as they keep coming! I have never seen a concert at the Jube before...and it was amazing. No seat was a bad seat (we were second balcony!) Parking was easy and it was easier quicker getting out too! Thanks again BNL! I <3 you guys!
