BASTILLE IN CONCERT:

Fans lucky enough to catch Bastille on their 2013/14 world tour can count their lucky stars —as one of the fastest rising groups in British music, the band's days of performing in smaller venues are certainly numbered. Boasting good looks and a winning blend of indie rock, hip hop, and synthpop, the four chaps from London have a knack for connecting with audiences at their carousing live concerts, entering the crowd to mingle with adoring fans and pose for the occasional mid-set photo op. With a string of highly anticipated US tour dates and a Coachella appearance in 2014, Bastille are well on their way to storming the American mainstream.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Bastille formed around the solo project of singer-songwriter Dan Smith, who shares his birthday with France's historic Bastille Day. The band's 2010 debut single "Flaws" was an underground hit, leading to a 2012 deal with Virgin records that resulted in the band's 2013 debut LP Bad Blood. The album peaked at No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and spawned six singles, including the international No. 1 "Pompeii." A reissue and remix version of the album in late 2013 drummed up anticipation for the band's 2014 world tour.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"The energy was incredible and the crowd and venue great. Dan came out into the crowd during his signature Flaws performance which was truly an experience."

"Bastille is amazing live! Dan is a true talent and mastermind! Kyle killed it on keyboard, Woody was awesome on drums, and Will rocked on the bass."

"The whole band rocked the house and performed all of their best songs off of their album Bad Blood in front of a sold out crowd who was jamming and singing along."

    Bastille - Dooms Day Tour

by Cindy Baggins on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Bastille always sounds phenomenal live. They have high energy and include the crowd in their performance. Impressed with the talent but not the set list for this tour. ‘Divide’ is the best song off the new album, which wasn’t played, along with ‘Overjoyed’ and ‘Fake It’. All 3 of these songs are Bastille staples and should never be skipped on a performance.

    Great show

Great show! We just wish it was a little longer and started at a later time.... but I’m assuming hat was the venue’s choice not theirs!

Incredible singer and performer live. One of the best concerts I’ve been to in quite some time.

    Incredible!

by Yulie on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I've wanted to see a Bastille concert for ages so I was worried they wouldn't live up to the excitement I had built up for myself but the CRUSHED IT! Such a fun concert with great energy!

    AMAZING!

by morgan on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Bastille puts on such a good show! This was my second time seeing them and I would go to 100 more. Dan is always jumping around which gets everyone excited and they play so well. I loved when dan went into the pit and sang, he was dancing with us! I was amazed.

    Always a great time

by Brenewby on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

They don't have pyrotechnics, explosions or Drake on stage, but these guys know how to do a song justice live. This was my 4th time seeing them live, and they're so good at creating an atmosphere that's accepting of all levels of Bastille fans. I'll definitely be doing my 5th show when they come back again. X

Great but could have had more.

by More Bastille ! on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Great concert by talented musicians. But, Bastille were on for less than an hour and a half with no encore. I’ve never been out of a concert by 9:30 pm before. I think there’s something wrong with that. Sorry Bastille, I think you could have done better.

    I'm a fan now

by mcconnia on 2019-09-23Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Knew some of their stuff but wouldn't have said I was a big fan. Am now. Great show. Dan brings his own style and terrific energy. No piddling about for the encore just got on with it. Excellent audience participation.

One of the most engaging bands I've watched in a long time! They've definitely gained a lot of following from casual music fans after their performance. 9/10!

    Never disappoints

by TyDHam on 2019-09-21MTELUS - Montreal

While the venue was new the band was just as good if not better as the first time I saw them. I liked the smaller venue and I had a great time listening to all their hits. If you want to see a band that continues to evolve and put on a great show then Bastille is your ticket to a great time!

    Génial!!!!

by Delphine on 2019-09-21MTELUS - Montreal

Un concert génial, des artistes super généreux avec le public et une superbe scénographie ! Une chance que le concert ait été déplacé au MTELUS, beaucoup plus intimiste que la Place Bell!

    Fantastic group, disappointing venue.

    by ... on 2019-09-21MTELUS - Montreal

The concert was wonderful. I'm still upset that it was moved from Laval, really close to home, to Downtown Montreal. I had to leave early to get back for an early morning. Also, with my back problems, I could not stand the whole time, and all the seats were taken. I'd been waiting months to see this incredible group.

The band was great, the acoustics no so much

by khallyu on 2017-05-03UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

I was disappointed by the acoustics of the venue - it made it hard to hear Dan well and to hear all the instruments in a balanced way. Bastille is very good playing with varied sounds and harmonies and I missed that in the live show. That being said, the band had great energy, especially Dan moving everywhere while singing, all that despite having a bad cold ! Dan went out of his way to engage with the audience, that was awesome ! I just think that next time I'll go see them live in a smaller/more intimate venue with better acoustics to fully enjoy their talent.

Bastille put on a high energy show!

by DancingMachine on 2017-04-30UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Dan's voice sounded fantastic (even though he said he was recovering from being sick), the band sounded great and Charlie Barnes' slithering and flowing dance moves were a joy to behold. The energy in the stadium was high with all the teens present. The venue could have been better...UBC's Thunderbird Sports Centre was not a great place acoustically and the venue was only about 60% full sadly. The Commodore Ballroom or Orpheum would have been a great alternative. I would recommend seeing Bastille live and I would see them again!

    Bastille!

by AStine on 2017-04-30UBC - Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre - Vancouver

Very good concert. Bastille was very entertaining and kept the audiences attention. He is down to earth and dresses casual. He captured the audiences attention as he walked through the crowd on the floor. He also sang while on a platform on the floor. After a standing ovation, he returned to a section of the seating above ours and proceeded with another song. That was great! The venue was really nice as it was small at the Thunderbird arena at UBC. The sound was excellent. Parking was really easy as the parkade is only a half a block away from venue and was cheap. Very easy to go, comfortable venue with food and drink and awesome concert! Great Videos behind the band. I did not like the comedian on the video prior to Bastille. Poor humor and pretty dumb.

Good Grief, Bastille is Awesome Live

by Roanna on 2017-03-27Air Canada Centre - Toronto

Seeing Bastille live is always a fun experience. They're energetic and enthusiastic, and their songs sound even more electrifying pumping through a venue's speakers. They give you a chance to let loose and dance around for an hour and a bit...even if most of their songs have pretty depressing lyrics. It's also worth getting floor tickets because most of the time, Dan will run through the crowd (usually during "Flaws"), and I don't think anyone can avoid fangirling just a little bit when you briefly end up face-to-face with a singer. Highly recommend attending a Bastille show if you get a chance!

    Bastille: Wild, Wild Show!!!!!

by Karen148 on 2017-03-27Air Canada Centre - Toronto

I took my 3 daughters, 21, 18 and 14 to the Bastille concert in Toronto on Friday night, they're all huge Bastille fans, especially my 14 year old, she absolutely loves Dan Smith! I was just tagging along but was pleasantly surprised at what an amazing show they put on, such great energy! I ended up really getting into it too! It made my day to watch my girls dancing and singing along with huge smiles on their faces. The best part was how Dan interacted with his fans by walking through the crowd while singing and when he performed a song in the media area so that everyone had an opportunity to see him up close. Terrific show!
