About

Ever since forming in 2008 and releasing their debut album, 2012's My Father and the Hunter, two-time JUNO award-winning alternative group The Strumbellas have steadily released follow-ups containing every ounce of stomping, hand-clapping, alt-country gusto, from 2013's We Still Move on Dance Floors to 2016's Hope to 2019's Rattlesnake. They'll soon round the corner with a brand-new fifth studio album, Part Time Believer, a collection that signals The Strumbellas' grand return and rebirth.

Now with Jimmy Chauveau on board as lead vocalist, The Strumbellas spent the last four years writing, recording, and whittling 50 songs down to 12. Honed by producers Ben Allen (Gnarls Barkley, Kaiser Chiefs), Keith Varon (Machine Gun Kelly), Stevie Aiello (30 Seconds To Mars), and Dave Schiffman (RHCP, The Killers), Part Time Believer continues The Strumbellas' long-standing tradition of blending anthemic, brightly coloured compositions with yearning, contemplative lyrics.

"I think people often feel like things are escaping them, or they're trying to grab on to something -- happiness, gratitude, professional or personal goals -- and for some reason, they just can't get there," says David Ritter, who handles piano, organ, percussion, and vocals. "Even if they get the thing they want, it doesn't feel the way they thought it would. A lot of these songs are about trying to, like, figure out why we're all feeling this way, and how we can find more peace in our lives."

What an incredible performance by The Strumbellas on Sunday night. They sound fantastic live and I would encourage everyone to go see them.

  • Great band, wrong venue

by Saints91 on 2024-12-11Living Arts Centre Auditorium - MississaugaRating: 4 out of 5

I came away very impressed with the Strumbellas’ talent and energy, despite the lacklustre venue/crowd. I would definitely see them again but I hope to see them at a different venue. Danforth Music Hall, Horseshoe Tavern, Axis Club, Great Hall etc. would better suit their energy and style. The volume seemed muted, and the crowd stayed seated for the majority of the concert. The atmosphere just didn’t produce the concert feel I enjoy.

  • Would convince everyone to go to this concert

by Meo on 2024-12-09Rating: 5 out of 5

I went to their concert twice in the past week and both of their concerts were amazing. They play songs from all their albums so you get a taste of everything. The energy from the band makes you want to get up and sing. I wish I could go again while they are still in Ontario. Best live performance I've seen and they need to release live versions of the songs, equally as good as the produced. Please come back for another tour!💙

  • Excellent concert

    by K Jay on 2024-12-05Rating: 5 out of 5

Re 2024 tour: I only knew a few of the Strumbellas‘ most popular songs, but I have to say that every song was excellent and catchy in its own way. The audience was up on their feet for most of the concert, dancing, singing, and having a great time. The lead singer is relatively new, but very charismatic and an excellent front man with an awesome voice. I highly recommend going, even if you don’t know their music. The only negative was a very folky, low-key warmup act. The singer seemed very sincere and genuine but unfortunately, there was none of the energy that the Strumbellas require to charge up an audience, so unless you like homegrown folk songs, I would recommend coming after their 30 minute set is over.
