BECK IN CONCERT:

Alt-rock icon and master of reinvention Beck made a return to form of sorts in 2014 with Morning Phase, a companion album to 2002's beloved Sea Change. Eschewing the irony and sampling featured prominently in many of his other outings, Beck's latest is awash with earnest optimism and acoustic instrumentation — the result is a lush, organic, emotionally charged tour de force that comes across as beautifully in live concert as it does on record. Backed by a full band, Beck hits the road in 2014 for the Morning Phase tour, which includes a much-anticipated appearance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio, CA.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Born and raised in Los Angeles, Beck moved to New York in 1989 and cut his teeth in the city's anti-folk scene before returning to Los Angeles in 1991. In 1993, his limited-release single "Loser" became a surprise college radio favorite, eventually growing into a mainstream Top 10 hit and garnering him a flood of label offers. Signing with Geffen Records, he released Mellow Gold in 1994, launching to both critical and commercial success virtually overnight. 1996 follow-up Odelay would prove even more successful, spawning three hit singles and taking home several Grammys, including Best Alternative Music Album. In the ensuing years, Beck's creativity and fearless experimentation have made him one of pop music's most idiosyncratic talents — the acclaimed 2014 release of Morning Phase, his twelfth studio album, proved that he's just as vital today as he was 20 years ago.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Beck was ridiculously amazing. If you get a chance to catch him live, do it while you can. He is a true showman and should not be missed."

"As usual Beck put on an amazing performance. He played a few songs from each album (including the reader), and he played every last one spectacularly."

"He plays a mix of his old & new material, both acoustic & electric, he breaks out the harmonica, then plays a cover of Billie Jean. What!?! I only wish it could have gone on all night long."

    Beck was amazing!

    by Penski70 on 2018-07-10Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I went to the Beck concert with my 15 year old son and the concert was amazing. I couldn't even remember when the last time I went to a concert. Beck was outstanding, he engaged the audience, the music was great, our seats were very good and would definitely recommend anyone to go see it. Did you know he has Canadian Roots? The best was that we sang him Happy Birthday as the concert was the day before his Birthday.

    Total pro

by Peejhey on 2018-07-10Budweiser Stage - Toronto

There was some technical difficulties and Beck asked for his acoustic guitar while things were being figured out but it took forever to get his guitar so he had to banter. But he kept it together. Great light show

    Truly Great

    by mathu75 on 2018-07-10Budweiser Stage - Toronto

This was an amazing show! Beck has a huge catalogue of great songs and he served them up one after another. He is an incredible talent and one of the greatest musical minds making music today. He doesn't come around that often, so don't miss the opportunity to see him live. I know that I will be going to every Beck show that I possibly can, as long as we both shall live :)

    Great Short Show

by ShelG on 2018-07-10Budweiser Stage - Toronto

Love Beck. There was good energy, excellent video backdrops and lighting, good sound and he had the crowd on their feet pretty much all night! Not much not to like aside from the fact that he only gave us 80-90 minutes of his time. 2 hours sb the minimum considering the cost of shows today, although I will say BECK is not out to gouge as I thought ticket prices were reasonable for a good seat and concert TEE’s were only $30 CDN! I have to think back a long time to think of a show with $30 Tee’s... That said, when older acts like Springsteen, the Eagles and U2 can play for 2/3 hours, BECK should work it for 2 hours.

    Disappointed

    by Josie21 on 2018-07-10Budweiser Stage - Toronto

I spent 200$ to see this show and Beck was only on for an hour or so, of that 20 minutes spent introducing his band. Wouldn't be seeing him again. Venue was good, been there many times. Parking meters tho were not working well.

Beck was great, but the sound wasn't

by Concertabilly on 2017-08-27Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Beck is a consummate performer. He connects with the audience in a natural way and he can really move. He has lots of good songs to chose from and he constructed the performance in a very effective manner. His band was first rate, although I worried that the second woman would lose her top (she should get a dress that requires less attention). The visuals were among the best I've seen. Inventive, creative, appropriate to the songs and beautifully executed. Although I wish there were fewer instances where the bright lights were turned on the audience. My major complaint is that the sound wasn't very good. It may or may not have been too loud, but it just wasn't very clear. Can Beck and his people be blamed? The sound has been very good at other shows I've seen at the Orpheum.
