About

BILLY CONNOLLY IN CONCERT:

Sideways-thinking and speed-chatting Scotsman Billy Connolly is a consummate improv performer and storyteller, regaling crowds with off-kilter folk songs and ridiculously circuitous stories for decades. Fans can always expect something weird, canny, and Scottish at his winking live shows as he works his way through new material and old standbys from his expansive discography. Having bounced back from prostate cancer in 2013, he remains an unstoppable force of funny on his 2014 tour.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Originally trained as a welder, Glaswegian comic Billy Connolly was inspired to a life of performing after one too many drinks at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Seeing the freaks and geeks he realized he could do the same, taking up banjo lessons and forming the comic-folk duo the Humblebums. His hilarious introductions before the band’s shows gained him recognition as a comic, and when the band split in the '70s, he took his act solo. Since then, he's gone on to achieve legendary status as a funnyman, writer, actor, and massive influence on subsequent generations of "tongues."

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"First time I have managed to see Billy live and he was amazing. We laughed from the minute he came on until he finished.”

"Billy Connolly is one of the best comedians! I've seen him perform in multiple countries now and have never been disappointed."

"Billy was the best comedy show I have ever seen. Laughed so hard I cried and my sides hurt.”

    Just Gets Better with Age

by RhodaL on 2015-11-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This is the second time I've seen Billy Connolly in Vancouver, and he is absolutely one of the funniest and most gifted comics around. His conversational and laid back way of telling stories makes you envision them - you can see the characters he talks about clearly and as if you've also known them all as well. And he's not afraid to discuss his Parkinsons and prostate cancer so that you can avoid, in his words, playing "spot the disease". I would see him again and again and again.

Billy Connolly! A master at work!

by Jesster31 on 2015-11-13Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Watching Billy Connolly is, was, and always will be a reminder of what it is to see someone who is perfect at something share it with thousands of people. What a treat and a gift to see. Billy continues to be an inspiration and a shining example of just how good of a story teller, a word smith, and merchant of humour someone can be. The best there's ever been.

    Health diminished but still scrappy!

by beauregard on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

When I heard that Billy had suffered a health set back and having seen him 6 years ago at his bawdy and irreverent prime, I didn't know whether I wanted to see him live again. I got over that in a heart beat after hearing him interviewed on CBC and had to pull over the car as I was laughing so hard. His performance this time was more nuanced and philosophical as he dug into darker material , for example playing a music gig in a hospice where a member of the audience died on him. Apparently,no one took notice until the end of the show as they wheeled him away. He is still on his game as a story teller and observer of human foibles and the inevitable end that we all must face.

Had to go see Billy Connolly while he is still touring. He is very funny even if he uses the F word a lot.

The show was fantastic. This was the first time that my wife or I had seen Billy Connolly and we were really impressed. He did a 2.5 hour show that went by very quickly. A real treat, very entertaining.

    run after that horse!

by Skweezyx on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

He's just so damn funny. 3 hours of hilarious stories of a life well (or very badly) lived. Connolly doesn't tell jokes, he tells tales -- each and every one of them "absolutely true". Like being in the pub with the coolest guy you know, getting drunk and laughing your ass off, except you can still go to work in the morning. Love him.

ALL COMEDIANS SHOULD ASPIRE TO BE AS GREAT!!!

by Kaap on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Utterly hilarious; just fantastic. With no back-up, he performed for 2 and 1/2 hours straight (no intermission), whereas the comedians we've seen are lucky to perform for just over an hour. He was so, so funny and every story and joke worked very well; not one thing he said fell flat! We were laughing so hard non-stop. He has not been that well recently, so if you get the chance to see him, just go - you definitely won't regret it. He sure is one of the best (if not the best) comedian we've ever seen (we've seen lots) and is definitely worth every dollar. ENJOY - HIGHLY RECOMMENDED !!!

    Billy Connolly

by Shawnigan on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Great show. Unfortunately we left it too late so had a poor selection of seats. It would have been just that much better if there had been a large screen behind Billy to allow us in the far seats to see his facial expressions.

Billy Connolly was a dream come true

by Calvine on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Seeing Billy Connolly was a dream come true. I have listened to him on my dads records when I was wee girl and grew up watching him on tele. I was doubled over with tears streaming down my face,. I have much, much respect for this man on so many levels. He is a bloody funny man and anyone would do well to go and see him. He is a true original and says it like he sees it. He is the real deal! Love, love, love him to bits!!

    Brilliant….again

by Dommy on 2015-11-12Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Fortunate to have sat in the front row because I booked early this time. I laughed so hard, and at some points painfully, for 2.5hrs. Thought I might piss myself at time! I love the man. Incredibly funny stories but also massively heart felt. Nothing else to say except thank you. I needed the laugh! Dominic
