Beautiful music at a beautiful venue!
by khut on 2011-10-02Orpheum - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5This concert was so amazing. The sound was so huge! From the first song, I was totally hooked... and looking around I could see I wasn't the only one. I was so impressed with all the musicians on stage...brass, wind, 2 drum sets, violin.... and more. So not only is the sound huge, it's also layered and rich. The highlight of the show was Skinny Love, when all the musicians gathered around two mics and used clapping and foot stomping on the "my my my" chorus. I am sooooo happy that I went to this show. I know it sounds cheesy to say it was life-changing... but it kinda was!

Bon Iver
by RoyalTaniaBomb on 2011-10-02Orpheum Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5This is the best show I've ever been to. Bon Iver has the unique ability to make you feel as if you are the only person at the event. Their natural talent is rarely seen in music these days and the show promises to be a unique moment you'll never forget.

I knew I had to go to this show because Bon Iver is one of my favourite bands of all time. I also love the Rosebuds who opened. I knew what I was getting myself into because I had been to the sound academy before. This is not the venue for me. Thank the lord they put on an amazing show which balanced out the fact that I was super cramped and could hardly see anything. The only way I would ever attend a concert at the sound academy is if it were one of my favourite bands.

WOW! Just Wow. I knew it would be really special, but it was truly magical and wonderful and spectacular and memorable. Wow.
Bon Iver amazing!
by geenanana on 2011-08-10Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5The performance was near flawless, I can only imagine if the show was at a better sounding venue. He played a good variety of songs from the old and new record. Live Bon Iver is an entirely different experience than listening to the record in terms of the sounds, but equally amazing. The performance had so many layers because of the 9 piece band, gorgeous beautiful noise projected and filled Sound Academy. A lot of people were left shocked and surprised at how heavy it got in there. In comparison to the record versions of songs that are more gentile and softer sounding, the live ones were a lot more loud and intricate.
Experienced utopian life with Bon Iver
by mycaind on 2011-08-10Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5It was beautiful. Beautiful. The setlist was really good, except for the fact that he didn't play Team. Colin Stetson was BRILLIANT as was the rest of them. He had so much good energy coming out of him and the crowd was amazing. Definitely worth the wait/time.
Bon Iver = Amazing
by griffingal on 2011-08-10Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5Justin Vernon was AMAZING....venue (Sound Academy) was TERRIBLE. An entirely inappropriate venue choice for this incredible band. Shame to think how much better the sound and experience could have been in a better suited venue.

Great musician, terrible venue
by Drew514 on 2011-08-10Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5Bon Iver's music was great. There were a few too many songs off the new album and the second half of the set was much better than the first. The biggest problem with this show was the venue, which had no character and bad sight lines. The crowd at the show was awful and full of teenagers pushing, climbing the walls (literally), and blowing smoke into other people's faces. Meanwhile, there were about 15 security people hanging around outside doing nothing. Can't fault Bon Iver. Justin Vernon has a chilling voice and some amazing songs, but the crowd ruined the night and didn't give him much in the way of participation. I'd love to see Bon Iver in a more serene setting with fewer 18-year old kids pushing their way through the over-crowded venue (even Justin noted that they had really crammed fans into his show) and I certainly don't plan on attending any more shows at Sound Academy.
Love Bon Iver, Dislike Venue
by Milkcandy on 2011-08-10Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 3 out of 5Amazing amazing performance!!.. definitely one of the best live bands out there. They translate even better live and in this manufactured music world, it is a rarity. The venue itself is not so great, standing on tippy toe just trying to get glimpses of the top of Vernon's head... and watching them on a screen at the back of the sold out venue, seems a shabby way to see a 'live' performance.
