Boston Bruins History

Established in 1924, the Boston Bruins were the first American team to join the NHL. They won their first of six Stanley Cup championships in just their fifth season in 1929, defeating the defending champions New York Rangers. It was the first Stanley Cup championship to feature two U.S. teams. The Bruins added championships in 1939 and 1941, and between 1943 and 1958 they reached the final five more times.

After the arrival of future Hall of Famers Bobby Orr (a three-time MVP) and Phil Esposito (one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time and the first player to score 100 points in a season), the Bruins won Stanley Cup Championships in 1970 and 1972. The image of Orr flying through the air after scoring "The Goal" in overtime to defeat the St. Louis Blues in 1970 is one of the most memorable in hockey history.

On April 9, 2023, the Bruins beat the Philadelphia Flyers 5-3, marking their 63rd win of the season and setting a new NHL record for the most single-season wins. They made history again on April 12 when they reached 133 points scored in a single season thanks to a 5-2 win over the Washington Capitals, besting the 1976-77 Montreal Canadiens for the NHL team with the most points scored in a single season.

Twenty-nine straight appearances in the Playoffs followed — a record among all professional sports — including Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1974, 1977–1978, 1988, and 1990.

After a two-decade absence, the Bruins returned to the Stanley Cup Final in 2011, defeating the Vancouver Canucks in a thrilling seven-game series behind the goaltending of Tim Thomas. To date, the Bruins have made 20 appearances in the Stanley Cup Final, including most recently in 2019. Legendary players who have worn the Bruins’ jersey include Hall of Famers Cecil "Tiny" Thompson, Eddie Shore, and Aubrey "Dit" Clapper.

Excellent seats in Loge 8 Row 16 Bruins vs Rangers always an exciting matchup. Being a Bruin fan who came from Winnipeg had no disappointment at Bruin loss in overtime. Game was exciting.

    BRUINS ARE WICKED AWESOME!

    by Lmac9 on 2017-04-20TD Garden - Boston

You could not ask for a more involved crowd for Boston Bruin playoff hockey! Loud and irreverent, the Bruins faithful was both knowledgable and intolerant of incompetence shown by the on ice officials, infractions by the opposition and the occasional lapses by the home team, but always rallying back around the B's.

    Bruins v Leafs

by EarlsdonBloke on 2015-04-12TD Garden - Boston

To be honest, not the best experience. The game was competitive and the seats were fine but my wife had spent over 4000 bucks getting us to Boston for this game. The pre-game hype was all about how Boston Gardens was a cut above the rest for the overall game experience and the improved facilities - I.e. Craft beer stalls, liquor and improved food options. Well, we got there and whilst I would agree, the choices appeared far better than the last tine we visited, we weren't able to try most of this due to the strict enforcement of a local I.D.policy. We only had none-U.S. Driving licences to hand and copies of our passports weren't satisfactory enough to enable us to purchase a single beer or drink whilst at the game despite my wife and myself being in our 40's and completely sober The stall vendors were very apologetic about the situation and agreed the policy was tough. We asked to speak to a supervisor as we had abandoned the opportunity for pre-game food and drinks outside the arena to take in the atmosphere and have arena refreshments and food inside. We spoke to the supervisor (I didn't take a name - should have) to clarify the situation and he has totally inflexible and rude. He seemed more interested in establishing the identity of the person who had last served us without I.D. in the Garden a couple of years ago to discipline them rather than to clarify the current policy as he thought we may have last purchased drink without I.D (we hadn't). We weren't that bothered about the food/drink situation other than the fact we had passed up other choices outside the arena and were hungry and thirsty, but the supervisor's attitude stank considering we were polite in our enquiry and only wanted clarity as couldn't leave the venue and return (another Garden policy). We weren't making a complaint, just trying to understand the situation. As impartial spectators I would advise any none-Boston based Hockey fans to avoid Boston Gardens for food/drinks before and during the game if they want a hassle free and enjoyable experience. Other than that it was a good venue spoilt by officious blue-tape and frankly ignorant management.

Staff and security at TD Garden have things rolling like a well-oiled machine. We were very pleased about how easy it was to get into and out off parking! My son had one word to describe the entire NHL experience in Boston: AMAZING! Shout out to the fans who sure do love their Bruins!
