About

BRYAN FERRY IN CONCERT:

When it comes to debonair British crooners, Bryan Ferry has the market pretty well cornered, now in his fifth decade as one of the country's most celebrated and stylish pop stars. As beloved for his work with art rock band Roxy Music as he is for his solo material, the ever-dapper Ferry is a consummate performer, known for his silky voice, ladykiller looks, and come-hither stage presence. With a North American tour and Coachella appearance scheduled for 2014, Ferry has fans of all ages eagerly waiting to be seduced by his wily charms.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Ferry formed Roxy Music in 1970 with several friends and acquaintances, among them a young Brian Eno, the now-legendary producer of David Bowie fame.  Between 1972 and 1982 the band released eight albums, topping the UK Albums Chart three times and racking up a slew of hit singles including "Jealous Guy" and "Love Is the Drug." In addition to continuing to front the band, Ferry has maintained an impressive solo career, releasing 14 solo albums over the last four decades. A true showman, Ferry continues to tour, lending his treasured voice to Roxy Music classics, hits from his solo catalog, and covers of artists ranging from Bob Dylan to The Beach Boys.

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Bryan Ferry and his band exceeded all expectations. Took me back to the '70s... Can't come up with enough superlatives"

"Ferry is still 'The Master.' If I could bottle up his voice and hear it forever I would."

"A great show by an amazing performer. Bryan has surrounded himself with a wonderful band... The setlist was a solid mix of solo and Roxy songs. "

    BRILLIANT!!!!!!!!

by keltoigirl9 on 2014-04-10Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Wasn't sure what to expect as we have seen other aged performers from our past who have disappointed. However, having loved Roxy Music(especially his silky, trebled voice) we crossed our fingers and took a chance. Blown Away!! He still has the swagger and his voice, though not exactly what it was, didn't disappoint. A polished performer he knew how to use it. And not only did he obviously come to strut his stuff, so did his band. Masterful musicians all, we were treated to brilliant guitar licks, powerful drumming, and exquisite sax and clarinet(?) The mix of old tunes refigured and newer(including other artists' songs) were handled brilliantly. And the final encore with John Lennon's "I'm just a jealous guy" was just the topping on a decadent cake!

    Bryan Ferry as always

by Marie44 on 2014-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Fan since the seventies when I discovered him and his Roxy Girls in London,I could not miss his one performance in Vancouver. The show was up to what I expected taking into account his age (as mine). The orchestra was oustanding, specially the 2 young guitarists and the excellent saxophonist young lady I was stunned by the energy of Bryan Ferry, his generosity towards the public and his musicians Only regret I would have loved him sing and play some of the "in the mood for love"album songs which is him now. As a whole excellent evening

    Bryan Ferry was great!

Good time. The sound at first was too high. Deafening at moments but then got better as time went on or I just got use to it.

    Good But Short of Great

by Buzzman604 on 2014-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Being the first show of the tour, there are some bugs to be worked out. Specifically, Bryan is in the background for over half the songs. He is behind a keyboard at the back. No front man. Found that to be very odd. Good thing I didn't have front row seats, you would have a hard time seeing him thru the band and equipment. Music was great, Band was tight. However, overall I was waiting for the whole thing to be great, but fell short. BTW, Bryan reworks More Than This. Jazz's it down and cuts it short...disappointing. If you are a fan, I would recommend it, but don't expect to be blown away.

A Good Start to His Tour

by Anon on 2014-04-09Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Bryan Ferry put on a good show, nice start to his tour. Covered all the favourites. He spent a number of songs on the back row playing keyboards, I think he should have been front and centre for the entire show. It is new band, I am sure very talented but I went to see and hear him.

    Bryan Ferry was awesome!

by Amberjewl on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This concert was amazing. The opening act Dawn Landes was good; very nice voice and liked the way the songs were arranged with the lead but after 2 songs it all sounded the same. She was definately out of her element and would fit better in a coffehouse than the QE theatre. She really doesn't fit as an opening act for Bryan Ferry. Bryan was a different story; not only was he amazing and his voice in great shape (Ok one little flub) his band was amazing. I wish he did more of his solo stuff but I'm not complaining and hope he comes back here in the Fall!

Lacklustre Sound Mix detracted from great show.

by Webjeet on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Bryan Ferry and his band covered all the bases with a well laid out set list. Although looking frail at times, the stylish cat's voice is still great. This is a very simple stage production with minimal lighting, all the better to focus on the timeless catalogue. Too bad the audio mix made the band sound lacklustre (hence the 3 stars). The mix had no snare, no kick and no bottom end for most of the set. Drummer Cherisse Osei wailed like a champ, but was buried in the mix that we heard sitting in row 14 orchestra. (Looked like she was miming at times as we just could not hear or feel the percussive sound that she was obviously putting down) The band also seemed disjointed at times, perhaps opening night bugs, but it all came together at the end. This show will improve as the tour progresses, so get your tickets before they sell out. Hopefully the sound crew will listen to the tapes and perk up their mix for the rest of the shows.

The band was well put together. Ferry still has his magic and gave the band a great opportunity to show theirs.

    Bryan Ferry does not shine

by Grap on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Watching Bryan Ferry I hoped for a dynamic soulful event. I have been a fan since Roxy Musics inception and seeing him live in this fantastic venue was a dream for my wife and I. We were surprised at first by the poor sound but after the 3rd song the sound improved to an acceptable level and the band started to relax and played to a point where they were enjoying themselves, however, we both felt that Bryan never actually relaxed. His persona on stage was detached from the audience and he simply sang the song list, he never engaged at all, he spoke one to introduce the band and failed to ignite the audience until the last 3 tracks. He missed an opportunity to engage a number of times and we felt that we had wasted our money, we could simply have downloaded a live event from iTunes and had exactly the same experience. Sad but true.

    Back to His Roots

by 5202dl on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

This was one of the best concerts I've seen in years. I was expecting much more of Bryan Ferry the solo artist but was pleasantly surprised that his band was just as much a part of the show. The Roxy Music material was just like listening to the old Roxy Music, particularly Editions of You and Both Ends Burning. Although the likes of Brian Eno, Andy Mackay and Phil Manzanera are long gone, this band performed admirably as stand-ins. It was a real pleasure from beginning to end.

    Ferry has still got it!

by bikermga on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Dawn Landes and her accompanist were rubbish as the opening act. Sometimes you wondered if they were playing the same tune. No wonder she didn't even announce her name at the start of the set. Bryan Ferry was great and belied his 68 years. Pity he chose to sit in the background when playing his piano. The band, playing their first gig together, were very good, while the "go-go" girls as back-up added to the show. Highly recommend this if you liked Roxy Music in the seventies, and Bryan when he went solo in the eighties. The sound, however, was not as crisp as it might have been with the organ and vocals a bit blurred. This was surprising for this venue.

Bryan Ferry still rocks BIG STYLE..

by FIFItheBRIT on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

When my friend and I lived together in England back in the 80's, Bryan Ferry's music used to belt out over the record player. We loved him. And danced to him. But never saw him live. By coincidence my friend was over from England staying with me in Vancouver and so we went to the concert together at Queen Elizabeth Theatre. Blown Away! He and his brilliant band were magnificent. We rocked in the aisles (and got told off by a security guard) but still carried on. We couldn't sit still. The reworking of old hits was fantastic, in many places haunting and emotionally stirring. We both agreed this is one of the best concerts we have EVER seen. And what a classy guy. Special mention must go to his drummer who we - with great affection - nicknamed 'Animal' after her enthusiastic resemblance to our favourite drum-battering Muppet. If anyone thinks that this performer, aged 68, is settling down to a life of pipe and slippers, forget it. He's as fabulous now as he was then.

    disappointment

by mackcat on 2014-04-08Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Was really looking forward to hearing Bryan Ferry ! But I & many of the people who left the show early were very disappointed . The group playing with him were way too loud for Bryans voice & he was barely heard over them , which was a shame as he still has a wonderful voice ! As another disappointed fan said on the way out before the show had finished " that is a bar band playing with him " I think the sound techs could have helped rectify this , but they were too busy partying to bother , this fact was also voiced by other disappointed fans !! Bryan at one point during the show stated that this was the first time playing with this group -- for his fans sake I hope it is his last !!
