  • Decent Show

by Wado on 2024-08-11Place Bell - LavalRating: 3 out of 5

My daughter and I had a great time at Totally Tubular! I enjoyed Thomas Dolby, but was left a little disappointed. He announced a festival first song and I was excited. Then he failed to perform it seemingly because of a lack of preparation and/or equipment malfunction. TD said he would come back to it later in his set, but never addressed it again. I understand we all make mistakes. However I was left somewhat dissatisfied.

  • Good performance but should have played earlier

by Crystal on 2024-08-09Place Bell - LavalRating: 4 out of 5

Performing last after a very long evening left Dolby with a tired audience and perhaps a culture difference with the remaining crowd not appreciating his music. Had he performed earlier it would have been better. My husband and I enjoyed his music. The organizers should have had the home favorites Men Without Hats play last as they really connected with the crowd and got the best response out of the entire arena. Otherwise it was a good show all around. My husband’s first time at Place Bell and he enjoyed it more than the Bell Center.

  • That Dolby Sound !

by 80's Fan on 2024-07-31The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Every Thomas Dolby event is a unique experience... he catered to this Festival audience with key hits, showcasing his Synth talents on the fly and entertaining presence. He's a master in his craft, especially for audiences that appreciates what he does. From creatively covering New Order's "Blue Monday", to the hauntingly personal "One of Our Submarines", to the Bowie Tribute... and closing with Science... a performance that doesn't even scratch the surface of his actual musical depth, Thomas Dolby is the ultimate Cool Musician Nerd with Flair.

  • Too much down time

by Shawna on 2024-07-30The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 2 out of 5

The line up and plan for a few songs played by each band was great, however the transfer of equipment should have been planned better. After each band there was a 15-20 minute delay, with lights on and all things 'halted' until the next band began. I understand that there couldn't be non-stop live music, but it would have been better if recorded music and perhaps videos with lights down (and maybe a DJ?) kept the momentum high. Instead, after each band the lull resulted in decreased energy for the next band. The night had almost as much down time as it did playing time...we left with less energy than we would expect after seeing such talented performers back to back. I highly recommend better coordination of timing between sets if hosting multiple bands on the same night in the future.

  • Great Value - Great Line-up

Seven acts over 5 1/2 hours was like an amazing mini festival. A very enjoyable format, and extremely well managed on the part of the artists and their roadies.

  • Show good venue Meh....

My wife and I went to Totally Tubular festival at the Great(not so) Canadian Casino. The festival had 7 acts and went from good to great. A lot of sound issues particularly with vocals. Men w/o Hats was the highlight of the evening. Just an onslaught of energy and fun. Great example of synth pop from the 80's. Modern English was very punky and Thompson Twins suffered from vocal issues but were still highly entertaining. The background visuals esp. for the final 3/4 acts were stunning. Overall a great evening. The venue was ponderous and confusing. I am older and use a mobility scooter. The front doors to casino had no handicapped access doors! Even though people were more than happy to help I felt humiliated. Given the demographic of casinos I cannot believe this oversite! The signage when you enter directed you around and then up to second floor and all the way around the casino and then back down to ground floor. When you arrive you realize you could have just gone thru casino and saved a massive amount of time and walking. We had to share the scooter because of this and also missed some of the acts. If they had large Map displays and better and clearer signage our experience would have been much better. This place really needs to get its act together.

  • Over the top!

I've always liked Thomas Dolby and have to admit his one man show was amazing!

  • Great Night

by Dano on 2024-07-28The Theatre at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

We recently had the pleasure of enjoying a great night of music at The Totally Tubular Festival at the Woodbine Casino. Most of the music was not in my style back in the 80's but I was curious to see these groups perform a small number of songs over the evening since I knew at least one song from each. There were 8 bands in all and none of the 7 we saw, disappointed. Quite honestly I would never have gone to see most of them back in the days, but would certainly enjoy a concert these days. Personally we thought Wang Chung and Thompson Twins were the highlight of the night but all the others were excellent too. Men Without Hats is a cool band to see and they didn't disappoint with their energy. We didn't remain to see Thomas Dolby as we had already been there for over 4 hours and he wasn't scheduled to appear until 11:20pm......too late with early morning rise ahead of us. Overall, a great experience and a wonderful night that we enjoyed immensely. Thanks Totally Tubular.

  • Awesome but short

The sound and quality of his show were off the charts. I just wish his set was longer than 1/2 hour.
