Buffalo Bills Team History

The Buffalo Bills became the seventh team to join the American Football League when Ralph C. Wilson was awarded the franchise in 1959. In 1964 and 1965, the Bills won the AFC Championship, and then-Head Coach Lou Saban was named AFL Coach of the Year for both seasons. After Marv Levy took over as Head Coach in 1986, the Bills won five AFC championships and made four consecutive Super Bowl appearances from 1990–1993. To date, the Bills are the only team to play in four consecutive Super Bowl games.

Since hiring Head Coach Sean McDermott in January 2017, the Bills have made five playoff appearances. In 2022, the Bills made playoff history in a game against the Patriots when they became the first team in the Super Bowl era to score a touchdown on each of its first seven drives of a playoff game.

Buffalo Bills at Highmark Stadium

Since opening in 1973, Highmark Stadium, located in Orchard Park, New York, has been the home to the Buffalo Bills. The stadium underwent several name changes; known as Ralph Wilson Stadium from 1998 to 2015, it was renamed New Era Field in 2016, then Bills Stadium in 2020. Following a new naming rights deal in 2021, its official name is now Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Stadium.

A visit to Highmark Stadium for a Buffalo Bills game is sure to be a loud and high-energy experience, as the team’s fanbase, the Bills Mafia, is arguably the most loyal in the NFL. The group got its start in November 2010 following the upset from a dropped pass by receiver Stevie Johnson that could have resulted in a game-winning touchdown. The hashtag #BillsMafia caught wind on Twitter, and since then the group has been known for their tailgating antics and game-day attire and energy.

    Bills great effort

    by Steelersnumber1 on 2013-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

This is the 2nd year in a row where I have watched the Bills. Last year was a really turn off as they had played horribly but this year the game was really entertaining. Im not a Bills fan but I was rooting for them this game. The players showed a lot of grit and if not for a couple of untimely events would of won the game. If they can improve the product who knows maybe Ill change my allegiance. It is a shame the fan base here does not support the Bills however if they played here more often and played like they did on Sunday that would certainly change.

    A great football game!

    by Asterisk113 on 2013-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

I had a fun time at the Skydome for the Falcons @ Bills game. Traffic and parking was very stressful (we missed the first 30 minutes of the game despite leaving an hour early). I think the city could do a better job with controlling the flow especially since there was also a Raptors game scheduled that day. Regardless, the energy of the crowd and the great plays made by both teams made it a worth while experience. I will definitely go to another NFL game in Toronto!

    Are We Having Fun Yet?

by Wowzer on 2013-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

The Bills and Falcons provided a great game, but the Rogers team has much to learn about creating buzz and fun. The Front Street activities were sterile with more security than patrons. There were few children and no sense of the tailgating experience that is an essential part of the football experience south of the border. I realize this is Canada but surely we can find a way to make a special event more festive. Even Steam Whistle Brewery didn't get involved with the event. More than one American group were spotted wandering with a six pack from Steam Whistle wondering what to do with it. Their party room could have been a great site for some pre-game fun. Inside the dome the event also lacked a festive air. Come on man! Let's make it more fun.

LONGEST WAIT TO GET INTO THE EVENT!!

by Anonymous on 2013-12-04Rogers Centre - Toronto

We arrived at the event about 315pm and the doors were not open at that time. I dont think they opened until 4pm and the game started at 405pm!! Not only did we MISS kick off but we missed the 1st 5 minutes of the game!!!! Women were not allowed to take their purses in the Rgers Center which should have been ON THE TICKETS at the time of purchase to save ALOT of ppl time. The game itself was enjoyable but I will NEVER watch another NFL game there again! i will go to Buffalo!!!!!!!

It was a great, eventful, and tight game despite being played by two bottom of the bracket teams. The game alone deserves 5 stars. However, organization of the event by Rogers Centre gets one star for being ill prepared and not allowing all clients into the stadium until after first quarter ended, despite opening the gates two hours before kick off. For that alone, NFL in Toronto is done for me.

The game was awesome and very close scoring game which made the game even more intense to watch. I loved every minute of the game and would consider going again in the future. :-)

    Amazing Bills game

by Tman41 on 2013-11-20Ralph Wilson Stadium - Orchard Park

Great game, great seats. Ralph Wilson Stadium is an older, smaller stadium (in comparison to many of the newer, modern NFL stadiums); and thus our seats up in rows 30-31 of the upper bowl (Sec. 311) still gave a spectacular view of the game. I recommend sitting on this side as you get the afternoon sun. Only complaint: the mobile beer vendors use very cheap paper cups in which to serve the beer. The beer in my cup actually soaked through the paper bottom of the cup, and eventually the bottom gave way and my beer drained from the bottom of my cup all over the ground and person in the seat in front of me. That said, kudos to the beer vendor who offered me a free replacement beer when I brought him the defective cup! But they really should do something about that.....

    Enjoyed the game but....

by Hopebro on 2013-11-20Ralph Wilson Stadium - Orchard Park

With all the new security I thought I was in an airport. Had to take my wife and daughter's purses back to the car. Why weren't the new security rules highlighted on Ticketmaster? To top that off a drunk was allowed to stay after Police vistied him. He proceeded to barf all over the back of us. The event staff were great, giving us new upgraded seats for the Second half. We have been attending Bill's games since the mid 70's so it is same old, same old. The beefed up security sure didn't stop what happened to us.' We will continue to go though. Love the game.

    Almost a great experience

by Frustrated2 on 2013-10-09Ralph Wilson Stadium - Orchard Park

Crossing the border to the game was fine. The tailgate and prelim sessions were excellent. The game was entertaining with a great result. Getting out of the parking lot was a disaster. Didn't move one inch for an hour. Long delays at the border too. Not sure we'll go again. If we do, we won't park in the stadium lots.
