    Guys still got it.

by dugman on 2010-02-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Show is still awesome. Excellent set list even though some of my favourites were missing. Zander my not have aged as well as the others but his voice is still one of the best in rock and roll and, unlike many singers, it is just as strong in a live show. By the way, their new album is actually one of their best. How many 70's/80's bands can say that. Wish they played a venue with seats though.

Opener Ricky Warwick was tiresome after 2 songs. 45 minutes of G, C and D on acoustic doesn't cut it. Had there been a better opening act, this event would have been a 5. Cheap Trick were truly amazing. Great show, great sound, great rapport with the audience. They broke out the big hits and graced us with some excellent new music that was enough to convince me to get the new cd. Of course Rick Nielsen didn't disappoint and showered the crowd with an endless barrage of picks for the enthusiastic collectors to fight over. Fortunately, no fisticuffs ensued. Robin Zander was surprisingly quiet as Nielsen did most of the banter, but more than made up for it with some inspired singing. Though they vamped the leadup to the high note in the flame to give Robin a few extra breaths to be able to hit it, I'm sure I'm one of the only people that noticed. Regardless, he belted it out like a champ and that was all that mattered. Bun E. held down the rhythm fort with his slick drumming that provided the catchy beats and let it rip during the break-down section in Dream Police. He's one of the unfortunate underrated musicians out there. Lastly there was Mr. 12 String bass himself, Tom Petersson. Tom also kept the all important rhythms rolling along and the bling on his bass alone made him an important part of the show. Not to be forgotten was the keyboardist that provided the majority of high harmonies. I believe his name is Phil Cristian (though I stand to be corrected). Whatever the case, he really held his own instrumentally and vocally. It was nice to see that the old boyz can still draw a crowd as they certainly deserve it.

Cheap Trick - Sound Academy Feb 4 2010

by Sharms on 2010-02-06Sound Academy - Toronto

It was a good show...no it was great! From the moment the boys from Rockford hit the stage with "Way of the World" from the 1979 Dream Police LP the sold-out crowd was in a frenzy. Bun E, Tom, Robin and Rick did'nt disappoint. From Tom's 12 string glitter bass to Rick Neilsen's tux. The band showed its staying power as they rocked and I mean rocked through a ride from their debut Cheap Trick to their latest called The Latest. It's a shame more people don't get to hear them on the radio but the hard core Trick fans know great music when their hear it...They have been rocking for 35 years lets hope they do it for another 35.

Even after more than 35 years together, they rocked the house like they were still kids. With track from their first album right up to their newest one, they kept the audience's toes tapping and hands clapping! They didn't perform The Flame but otherwise an awesome performance.

Cheap Trick was full of Tricks

by judigood on 2010-02-06The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

This band isn't getting any younger but you'd never know it by their fabulous sound. The lighting was great, although we could have lived without the spotlights that shone in our eyes from time to time..... Robin hasn't lost his amazing voice and the rest of the band had great energy and enthusiasm. The venue (Casino Windsor) is always great and the price was right. The audience certainly enjoyed every minute of this great show.... even the encore, which some bands use to wind down was fabulously energetic. Did we mention Rick's guitars! We couldn't count them all or how fun they were to look at... my favourite was the 2 necked guitar that looked like a person... my husband's was the 5 necked guitar.... very cool Go to see them if you get the chance.............. you won't be sorry.

    Cheap Trick , anything but

An excellent show. The boys were tighter than I have seen them in quite some time. Great set list! Some I haven't heard live before, or in a long time.

    Cheap Trick kind of boring

by SmokeU62 on 2010-02-06The Colosseum at Caesars Windsor - Windsor

It just seemed like they were going thru the motions and not really wanting to be there. Everyone felt that too because not even the people on ain floor were standing up . It was alittle short on time but maybe that was a good thing?

Still sound great after all these years

by toscotty on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

This was my first time seeing Cheap Trick live and I was surprised by the quality of the concert these guys can still put on. They played a mix of old and new material spanning thier 30+ year career. The sound quality was superb as it always seems to be when I see shows at the Sound Academy. They band members all seemed to be in fine form. Robin Zander's voice still sounds great. Rick Nielson must of played at least 15 guitars(I lost count) durring the 90 min set. Bun E Carlos and Tom Peterson provided a steady rhyhms that let Zander and Nielson shine. I was suprised by the fair number of younger people in the audience that seemed to really enjoy the concert, especially I want you to want me and Surrender, the power of Rock Band I suppose. Rick Nielson hinted that they band would be back in the summer. I would defiinetly recommend to anyone who has not seen Cheap Trick to check them out.

    Great show from Cheap Trick.

by TorontoJim on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

Seeing Cheap Trick was fantastic. A smaller venue allowed you to be up close and somewhat personal. The band played a great list of songs and threw in Ghost Town which they were saying they had not played in about 15 years. They are carrying a keyboardist who really filled out the sound. Said his name was the Magic Christian. Anyone know who he is? All around a great show and glad I went.

Cheap Trick was in fine form!!

by MrRocker on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

Cheap Trick was in great rocking form. They played with some passion and fun that make them a great live band. Rick had his usually array of guitars for every song while Robin sounds as good today as he did in '77. Setlist was pretty good... a couple songs I could have done without and substituted for songs I like better but you'll never please everyone. It was great to see them headline - my only beef was that they only played for about 80 minutes. I think a headliner should always play for at least 90 minutes - I read that they may have cut the show a little short due to Bun E. not feeling well - not sure if that is true. Rick did a little too much talking... at one point someone from the band (think it was Robin) told him to shut up. One good thing he mentioned was that they may be back in the Toronto area in the summer (2010) - I'd like to see them again - hope they are headlining!! I would have rated the show 5 stars if they had played a little longer - but other than that they are always a great band to see live.

    by Bono2009 on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

Those Mid-Western boys still know how to rock. It was a treat to see them in a small venue again and get up close and personal. I forgot how many great songs they have.

Need Your Love, Need Your Love, Need Your LOOOOOVE

by choochahlah on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

They were great musically, the lead singer, Robin Zander still has all of his voice, Rick Nielson at 61 is still the jokey stage prankster type. Tom Petersson looked great, and and Carlos on the drums kept everyone timed nicely. They performed their classic hits to perfection, opening with Need Your Love and closing with Surrender. There was a sprinkle of their new stuff mixed into the vault offerings. Didn't get to stay for the encores, but they came to satisfy and they did. What a trip. Only comment would be about keeping the flow of music. They stopped (what felt like) after each song and Rick would give commentary until they got their next song going. This style may work in a bar type atmosphere but I didn't particularly feel that bit. This made the concert feel choppy and disrupted their momentum. Could have been a bit tighter with that. All in all, for a Thursday night, it was good outting, lots of other fans in the crowd, old and young, so the mix of attendees was great.

Cheap Trick Blew the Roof off of Sound Academy

by Tallywag on 2010-02-05Sound Academy - Toronto

Cheap Trick is truly one of the best American 70's Rock Band and still going strong! From the second they took the stage to the time they left they thrilled the crowd with a mix of hits, rarely played gems and new songs. If you missed it, you missed the best live show I've seen in years! Please come back soon!
