  • fun night of rock jazz fusion!

by MBfanforever on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I truly only know their 80s ballads era the best, but these guys sure love to be onstage jammin' and showcasing their horns section! Very fun evening and loads of instrumental jamming!

I thought the concert, sound, singing, venue and energy were all amazing, BUT, I could not wrap my head around the difference w/o Peter cetera's voice. As a teen in the 70's (help!) I listened to and loved Chicago. I have the songs and voices implanted in my mind... The general youth of the band made me feel more like I was listening to an excellent cover band. I realized going to the concert that the original band would not be in place. Emotionally, I didn't realize that I would miss the 'old days' so much...

  • An Evening With Chicago was fantastic!

by Kjell on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Chicago at either the Northern or Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditoriums just simply can't be beat. The show in Calgary was brilliant........Chicago just get better and better "as time goes on". Guaranteed Terry Kath (RIP) would be proud of what his old friends have done to become one of the greatest bands in music history.

amazing concert, they were fantastic, high energy, tons of fun, they played for a long time

  • Chicago still rocks

by Uncledude on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

The vocals are weaker and the horns are not as sharp as if you were listening to the old albums, but they are great entertainers. The talent level amongst all the musicians was excellent, and as a side note, I couldn't keep my eyes off the two drummers and the trombone and trumpet players, they were just having fun and really into it. If you're expecting the 1970's version with the same performance quality, you may be slightly disappointed, but I say only slightly. Chicago played all the favorites and knew what the crowd wanted. Excellent concert.

  • Chicago Was Unbelieveable

by pampam on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

I was so impressed with the band Chicago. It is the first time I had seen them live, and they did not dissapoint. I liked the way they were dressed. Most wore suit jackets, one in a complete suit. And they really went all out for the fans. They haven't lost any of their stage talent. Their voices are still strong, and man can they play those instruments. The fellow playing trumpet was a hoot. If they ever come back to Calgary, I will be first in line for tickets.

  • WOW

by rob1600223 on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

My throat is sore from singing along and from cheering, the skin on the palms of my hands is raw from all the clapping and my feet are tired from standing for most of the show but it was worth it! 2 hours of musical bliss and even at that length they still had to leave out some of their hits.

  • Chicago simply amazing!!!

by musicteachermom on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Wow! What a fantastic night of talent and memories! The original members continue to shine with their outstanding abilities! We really enjoyed the young percussionist as well. loved hearing all their hits, along with just one or two I did not recognize. It was a nice touch featuring small ensembles as well. Just a couple of times, the balance was off and it was difficult to hear the lyrics, but all in all a wonderful evening. Another check off my bucket list! the only thing that would have made it better is if they showed up with Earth Wind and Fire!

  • An Evening with Chicago - Bitter Sweet

by V70R on 2014-03-12Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

Chicago is an amazing group with a unique sound from the 70s and 80s. Unfortunately, this performance was somewhat bitter-sweet. Sweet because this group was able to deliver "hit after hit" as a reminder to the staying power of groups from the past. Bitter because they cranked up the volume so loud that it was inappropriate for the venue at the Jubilee Auditorium in Calgary. At times, it was painful. Having said that, I loved their music. The second half of the performance far outweighed the first. Despite the excessive volume, the crowd was electric. I thoroughly enjoyed songs like Saturday In The Park and 25 or 6 to 4. Chicago could learn a lesson from the Eagles. You don't need members of the band in competition to see who can play the loudest.

  • way beyond expectations

by saxophile on 2014-03-07National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

From the moment they took the stage Chicago completely dispelled any notion that they would be phoning it in. Following a cleverly designed set list that would give the horns a break during keyboard-centred ballad numbers, they powered through their huge back catalog of hits with amazing energy. There was nothing out of place - just a succession of great songs performed by musicians who still care enough to make their songs sound terrific (much tighter than on the recordings of live performances from the early years, but this is hardly surprising given the number of times they have played these charts). How they do this night after night is quite beyond me.

  • Chicago was awesome!!

Truly amazing is the longevity of this band. To perform such an entertaining and top quality concert is a tribute to a group of musicians that have been to together for a long time. Thanks for a terrific step back into the past!!

The Chicago concert at the NAC was Fabulous! The band has not lost it's voice!! There were people of all ages and the music is timeless. The NAC venue was almost sold out. Plenty of parking.

  • Chicago!!!! What a Band of Merry Men!

by cathmor on 2014-03-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

Seventh row centre was the place to be Sunday March 2nd, 2014 at Southam Hall, NAC Ottawa, Ontario. Great energy from start to finish. Chicago is in the Hall of Fame for a reason and after 40 years still sound as fresh as day 1! If they come again--don't miss them but save me a seat!!

  • The whole package

by Alviestates on 2014-03-05Casino Rama - RamaRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing concert! My husband and I have been to a lot of concerts in our lifetime, and this one ranks up in the top 5! Non stop tune after tune that we all know and love from our childhood right up to the present, each and every one of them are classics. The band members themselves are classy and passionate, from the "tight" horn section, to the very entertaining percussionist (love those bongo drums), to the 3 sweet, melodic singers. They even did solos. They transformed me back to the days when I used to listen to their vinyl records over and over again. The horn section are original band members and it shows from the synchronicity of their "dance" moves and their comedic stage moves. Robert Lamm, singer and keyboardist so very passionate in his singing as displayed by his song dedication to his family. I can't say enough to capture the exceptional entertainment value of this classic band. So very entertaining. I would travel miles to see them again!

  • Chicago Never Disappoints!

by stormy1 on 2014-03-05National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - OttawaRating: 5 out of 5

I have seen Chicago thrice before in Las Vegas so believed that their great performance was due to the venue in Vegas. Not so! When performing at Ottawa's NAC, Chicago proved that they consistently put on a great show, regardless of the city or venue. I loved it and would see them again! The trombone player, Jimmy, is my favourite to watch. I love his performance as he really appears to enjoy every moment himself, besides being really talented!

  • FANTASTIC!!!!!!

What a great concert!!!! This band has such an amazing songbook spanning over many years. It was wonderful to hear them again as they brought back many great memories!!! I think that it was one of the longest concerts that I had seen at Rama. They played for 2hrs 20 minutes and they sure did not disappoint their many fans. They played everything and you can see how these guys still enjoy what they are doing!!! They do it so well!!!!!!!! Really a magical evening!!!! SO much energy in that room!!!! Would love to see them return here again as it is a wonderful venue!!!

  • Chicago @ NAC

I was really looking forward to this concert but right from the start was dissapointed. Having grown up listening to this band's recordings I guess I expected more. They were nowhere near as tight as expected, the sound mix was way off and much much too loud. I had to wear hearing protection and was happy I bought some otherwaie would have had to leave the performance.
