Columbus Blue Jackets History

The Columbus Blue Jackets — whose name pays tribute to Ohio's substantial contributions to the Union army during the Civil War — joined the NHL as an expansion franchise in 2000.

The Blue Jackets played their first 12 seasons as a member of the Western Conference, making their first foray into the Stanley Cup Playoffs in 2008-2009 led by All-Star winger Rick Nash and Rookie of the Year goaltender Steve Mason.

NHL realignment saw the team move to the Eastern Conference in 2013-2014, and the Blue Jackets have since collected six winning seasons and qualified for the Stanley Cup Playoffs five times. Columbus was one of just three teams to earn playoff berths in four consecutive seasons from 2016-2020, joining the Boston Bruins and Washington Capitals.

In 2018-2019, the eighth-seeded Blue Jackets faced off against the Presidents' Trophy-winning and top-seeded Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round of the playoffs. The Blue Jackets shocked the heavily-favored Lightning as they became the first team in NHL history to earn a four-game sweep in the first round of the playoffs against a team with the league's best regular-season record.

    Food & Drink Prices

by MaxCanada on 2011-02-07Nationwide Arena - Columbus

My son & I enjoyed the game and the Nationwide Arena is a very good arena to view a game from. The only complaint I have is the prices of their food and drinks. My son ordered a Hotdog, and an order of French Fries and a Pop and the total came to $18.00. In my opinion this is overpriced and I wouldn't ordered anything to eat or drink for myself during the game because the prices were too high.

Columbus Blue Jackets - Coors Ticket Package

by missmelmac on 2010-01-04Nationwide Arena - Columbus

Had a great time at the Blue Jackets game! Bought tickets through the Coors Light Hat Trick promotion and was very happy with what we received. All you can eat pub-style food at the arena before the game, great seats towards the top of the lower level to watch the game and a free drink in the arena bar after the game, all for just $50 per ticket. Would definitely do this again! Was also very impressed with Nationwide Arena.

The game at Nationwide arena was great, the atmosphere in Columbus for hockey was spectacular. The Avalanche won as I hoped and both teams played a great game!

    Worth the drive

by Yatesr on 2009-12-30Nationwide Arena - Columbus

It might of taken 7.5 hours to get there from Kitchener Ontario but staying over night made up for it. Two tickets in a motel for under $225 American and we were twelve rows from the ice. P.S. I'd make the drive again!

    What a game!

    by hockeymom28 on 2009-12-29Nationwide Arena - Columbus

The Columbus Blue Jackets played an awesome game, and came out on top. They won 1-0 over the Detroit Redwings in overtime. Blue Jacket fans are great and definitely love their team. There is always something going on in the arena, like the shirts they throw into the crowd, or pizzas and McDonald's happy meals they give away, or Stinger the mascot doing something crazy. The stadium is beautiful, and definitely worth seeing.
