About

With her multi-colored hair, eccentric fashion, and string of decade-defining hits, Cyndi Lauper has become synonymous with ‘80s pop. Her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual was an overnight success – her bubblegum-meets-punk aesthetic resonated with the nascent MTV generation, making her a new wave icon and earning her a Grammy in 1985 for Best New Artist. A talented singer with a mercurial voice, Lauper showed off her impressive range with the 2010 release of Memphis Blues, which remained at No. 1 on the Blues Albums Chart for an impressive 14 weeks and received a Grammy nomination for Best Traditional Blues Album. Born and raised in Queens, Lauper began writing songs at age 12, inspired by legendary jazz vocalists like Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald. After playing in various cover and new wave bands in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s, she became an instant critical and commercial success with her 1983 debut She’s So Unusual. The album produced four Top 5 hits, setting a record for an album debut by a female artist, and included perennial ‘80s anthems “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and “Time After Time.” On tour in 2013, Lauper impressed ticket buyers with her powerful voice and energetic live concerts, performing her greatest hits along with the entirety of the She’s So Unusual record.

    Cyndi: not her best performance

by hebops on 2009-08-03The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

I saw Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell on Friday night, the second night of their two night run at Fallsview Casino. Rosie was hilarious and in fine form and I enjoyed the banter between her and Cyndi at various times during the show. Cyndi looked great as always, but I have to say honestly, after seeing Cyndi in concert 5 times before, she wasn't in her best form. She normally has so much more energy. Also, the arrangements of her repertoire seemed, for the most part, not as creative or varied as I've heard them performed before. Compared to only a couple of years ago when she set the hall on fire at Casino Rama, Friday night's show seemed devoid of the magical mayhem that she delivered then. Nevertheless, Cyndi is and always will be, to me, an amazing artist and performer. She is far more talented than she ever was given credit for during her long career. A washed up '80s novelty act, she is not !!

    Cyndi was wonderful

by rabit on 2009-08-03The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Loved Cyndi very talented. Rosie was a little over the top. I thought at most times she was quite funny while my husband was put off with all the lesbian jokes about herself. Maybe just a little to much crude words. Not sure why Cyndi feels she needs Rosie she's great on her own.

    Suitcase of Memories!

by kaydee on 2009-08-02The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

The Cyndi Lauper/Rosie O'Donnell concert was an amazing evening of comedy, laughter, song and dance. Rosie was hilarious. Her self-deprecating humor had the audience in stitches. She stayed even around to help with the back-up vocals for a few songs, bantering back and forth with Cyndi, and returning to bang away on the drums during the encore! Cyndi's filled the room with her soulful unique voice that we've loved to hear over the years. She touched the crowd with her rendition of Joni Mitchell's "Carey'. She had us captivated between her quirky sense of humor, connecting with the audience and making us realize what a great gift she has been to the music industry over the years. We danced together to "She Bop' and 'Girls Just Wanna Have Fun". 'Time after Time' gave me chills and I left with my own 'Suitcase of Memories' of a lifetime. Thank you Cyndi and Rosie for being you, and never change because we love you for who you are!

    cyndi fantastic rosie hilarious

by kerryp on 2009-08-01The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

i was lucky enough to see cyndi lauper and rosie odonnel tonight. the show opened with rosie, who is extremely funny and so down to earth with her humour; talk of menopause, her children, the dreaded "view" and barbara and elizabeth of course the donald and bush, she was at the top of her game, then it was time for cyndi lauper, she came out and began a conversation with rosie who had stayed on stage to introduce her, their conversation was natural and you felt like you were sitting with a couple of girlfriends in their kitchen, it was really funny, cyndi started her show and rosie stayed on stage singing back-up and shaking the tambourine for a few songs. cyndi was high energy and bounced around dancing and singing it was a great show she sang most of the old favourites with a couple newer songs. later in the show rosie returned and played drums with her. twice cyndi went out into the audience. the people just love her her voice is magnificent and when she holds one of the notes with such strength and purity it is absolutely beautiful

Cyndi and Rosie were great together

by Wedge on 2009-08-01The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Both Cyndi and Rosie were very good individually but it was when they were both on stage telling thier funny little stories that was the entertaining highlite of the evening.

    CYNDI LAUPER & ROSIE O'DONNELL

by RJEREMY on 2009-08-01The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Rosie was better than I expected. Very good with the audience, pretty good material. Cyndi's set was a mess from the word go. Poor sound, not comfortable with the stage. It seemed to throw her off, but she picked it up the second half of show. Band ok. I did not know what to expect with the two acts, but it actually worked. This being her first show, i am sure it will only get better. Cyndi played most of her hits, no surprises. fun night out.

The Ro and Cyn show was a hoot!

by NYCDude on 2009-08-01The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Wow....Rosie (Ro) has a potty mouth----loves it! Okay let's talk real, I think I have had this crazy obsession and crush on Rosie since her talk show days...loves her! She was hilarious...Ro as her friends refer to her (which I beleive if she new me we would be friends lol) came onstage with music playing from Flo Rida "LOW" it was fun from the beginning. Ro did about a half hour of comedy routine and of course that freak "The Donald"! Lot's of audience one on ones and then Cyndi (Cyn to friends) came out and took over it was fantastic. As for her sound crew.....wow some issues there....not too sure if they were her sound crew or the houses sound crew but she was not happy! It was a problem the whole show but she was still amazing and it did not affect the show in any way. Then for the last two songs Ro came back out and played the drums and did a little routine with Cyn and they closed the show with Girls Just Want To Have Fun!

    Cyndi & Rosie

by ssjjcsk on 2009-07-31The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

I personally enjoyed Rosie's act and her interaction with the crowd. I could have listened to her all night. I found that Cyndi's band was so loud that I really couldn't hear her sing. She is interesting to watch with her simple-mindedness and overall pleasing personality!

    technical difficulties

by zivkoi on 2009-07-31The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Rosie was funny but the audience seemed to think they were just hanging out with Rosie and could yell things out to her and have her sign stuff during her performance. Cyndi was amazing but she seemed to focus too much on "technical difficulties." It was the first show of the tour so some problems are expected.

Rosie is the best, and Cyndi was awesome!

by 1concertlover on 2009-07-31The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

We just love Rosie, and miss her a great deal on TV. We laughed through her whole stand up, She's just so down to earth, we really apreciate that about her. Cyndi was amazing! I couldn't wait to hear her do a few of my favourites, and she did not disappoint. Her voice was great and I loved when she danced and got into the music. We were a little disappointed there wasn't an encore. But overall awesome!!!

    girl's nite out

by caitsmith on 2009-07-31The Avalon Ballroom Theatre At Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort - Niagara Falls

Cyndi Lauper and Rosie O'Donnell is going to forever be a concert that I will remember as long as I live. I can honestly say this was the best concert ever!!! Being the first night of the tour there was some technically problems but being the professional Cyndi is she stopped the music and got it fixed explaining what was going on the whole time. She puts on such a great show and adding a talent like Rosie who does everything from comedy, singing, playing the drums and a little dancing makes it that much better! If I could get tickets to tonight's show I would be right back there again...Amazing and I hope they return soon!
