Dave Chappelle Live Performance and Tour
Dave Chappelle, mastermind behind sketch comedy goldmine Chappelle's Show, made a triumphant return to stand-up comedy in 2013. While he's beloved for his famous impersonations of Rick James and Prince, Chappelle doesn't rely on old material for his stand-up act, treating fans to an all-original show featuring extensive improvisation as he interacts with audiences. At his 2013 performances on The Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival, which he co-headlined with Flight of the Conchords, Chappelle had fans rolling on the floor, building anticipation for his highly coveted 2014 tour dates.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT
Born David Khari Webber Chappelle in Washington, D.C., Dave Chappelle studied theatre arts in high school before moving to New York City to pursue standup comedy. Despite getting booed off stage at the Apollo Theater's infamous "Amateur Night," he remained resilient, going on to make a name for himself on the New York comedy circuit. Following several successful film appearances in the '90s, including a starring role in 1998 cult classic Half Baked, Chappelle debuted his namesake sketch comedy show on Comedy Central in 2003, finding both critical and commercial success. In 2006 he released Dave Chappelle's Block Party, a concert film set in Brooklyn featuring performances by Kanye West, The Roots, and a temporarily-reunited Fugees.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY
"Funniest live performance I've witnessed to date. You will be quoting Chappelle after the show. I was laughing so hard that it started to hurt. Great show from start to finish."
"Dave...he is a comedic genius and one of the best ever. He was amazing and I wished I could have gotten in line and gone to the second show!"
"He was hilarious. Talked about some of his history and was not afraid to get the audience involved. I had a great time."
Great show, different variety of entertainment, great night out!
Jeff Ross stole the show The documentary itself was too long and didnt really land Wish we had more Chappelle time and less performance by Kardinal Offishall
This show was amazing, we laughed, we cried and we sang. I am super happy to see the way Mr chappelle forms amazing talented people into a super group. He blessed this city with nothing less then amazing, the world is lucky to have Dave Chappelle in it, if anyone can help end racism its him. 1 love
Got in the venue quick, everyone was helpful and friendy. Only bad thing was i was told to wear my mask by security because i was 3rd row but as soon as movie started everyone took off there masks and said screw the rules except only a few people.
Overall, good show. You cant get a better opener than Jeff Ross. Sam Jay was a great follow up - jokes were hilarious and fell in line with Dave's charisma. After that, the show went a little downhill. Although very informative and sobering, with a bit of humour, the video was too long for our liking - I was able to do multiple washroom breaks. Followed with a good musical artist but for the amount of time they were on, a higher tiered artist wouldve been ideal (ex. Justin Bieber was at one of his previous shows). Finally, Chapelle killed it for the time he was on but given the allotment for everyone else's stage presence, it felt like the GOAT had the shortest skit. Would still see him again in a heartbeat.
It started out great with Jeff the comedian and then took a turn. I had no interest in the documentary especially a politically motivated one and not to mention it felt as though the documentary was simply there to stroke dave’s ego at what a good job he did. It bored me and my wife. We had about 10 other people with us in our box and they left. Good thing I stayed till The end because dave Chappelle is hilarious.
I enjoyed the entire experience from the opening acts to the documentary to the musical performances and Dave himself. The unpredictability made it even more thrilling.
My only pet peeve was the check in process, it took about 40 mins to get in, there should be more than 1 entrance inside the actual venue and not herd everyone into one doorway area, it was very crowded and hard to move, If you want people to lock their phone's up, maybe the pouch should be a little bigger, not all phones fit with their cases on. Staff should also be knowledgeable on the different parking lots in the area, people from out of town are not familiar with the area so staff should know which direction to point people in once leaving the building, took another 30 mins to find someone that knew how to get back to my parking zone (most staff live in Toronto) and werent very friendly or helpful, they seemed to be bothered by being asked directions to the Royal Bank Plaza which is actually across the street .. other than that the Dave Chapelle show was a great time.
The experience was disjoint, nothing flowed very well. Comics were hilarious but were less than 10% of the night. Movie was all politics and not at all funny.
Fantastic show! Brilliant performance and movie! A great laugh and break from this pandemic news. Hope he comes back to Toronto!
It was a dream to see Chappelle live and he was at the top of his game. The show was hilarious. Dave is the GOAT and I am so happy that I got to experience it firsthand!
Great documentary and wonderful night Dave is truly the king of comedy hopefully he returns to the scotia bank arena
Absolutely the best night of my life. I love Dave and loved the show and the documentary. Both of the comedians he brought with him were also great, but I really didn’t like the rapper, he was not engaging at all and the crowd was vibing with him AT ALL. He also took way too long on stage to the point where we felt that Dave was getting sick of him and wanted to kick him off the stage because he was taking too long. Over all a fantastic show tho and would definitely go again and again.
I am happy i was able to see this legend. Very good documentary navigating the year 2020 and the trials that came with it. Great line up of comedians including Jeff Ross and Sam Jay had everyone cracking up. Dave did a set totalling an hour. You could tell he was having a ball and not giving a f@?!?. Good times all around
An an absolutely out of this world show! Perfection from start to finish! Documentary was engaging, thought provoking and an overall suburb commentary on so many diferrent levels. We had a great time. We hear you! Thank you Dave and friends!
Opened with 2 great acts that really made their mark . The screening of the documentary was really captivating and provided laughter at times while delivering its well spoken message of that unforgettable summer. Dave himself performed a great set for an hour , which is always the icing on the cake.
Coming to Chapelle's residency at Radio City felt like we were part of history. The lineup of talented African American musicians and comedians he shared a stage with for the whole two weeks are some of the most influential individuals in the world today. His set was absolutely hilarious and didn't disappoint. Marlon Wayans, Donell Rawlings, and Cedric the Entertainer who opened for him sent the hall roaring with laughter. They are all living legends in their own right and it was such a privilege to see them perform live. Then came ERYKA. She brought us into the Badu experience I've been waiting years to be a part of. There were some really annoying technical issues with the audio for the first 10mins, but after that was fixed, the show was pure magic. Her voice was velvet, her artistic expression was so uniquely her own.. this experience was everything I could have hoped for and the fact that we were forced to lock our phones away made it so much BETTER.
I saw Dave Chappelle in Boston during the height of The Chappelle Show - I was younger. His performance not only exceeded any semblance of a standard that I went into that show with but my father was so impressed that I could see a noticeable admiration begin to form, I imagine my father bringing his son to see some trendy novelty act that the kids are into but instead commended Dave Chappelle's knowledge of history. He spoke in depth about Boston's history, the revolutionary war, Crispus Attics, etc. I very much look forward to seeing him again, and hope to have the experience of seeing him perform one of his multiple hour "sit down" shows at a small venue where he goes off the cuff without material, interacts with the crowd - although he deserves the biggest stage the world has to offer. I hope he sitcoms and cartoons - I think the world could have it's next Seinfeld if he were to pursue that platform
Great show. Dave loomed jacked. Sucked I couldn't do ticket transfer.
I was dying of laughter! Dave Chappelle continues to be as funny with his raw sense of humor as he was in the past, when I watched the Dave Chappelle show and his old stand up acts.
