About

Rock group Evanescence, initially formed in 1994 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, released three EPs before the end of the ‘90s and an album called Origin. By 2002 they were signed to Wind-Up Records and expanded the line-up to include musicians John LeCompt, Will Boyd and Rocky Gray. In 2003 they released their first official album, Fallen, which sold over 15 million copies.

Evanescence released a live album, Anywhere But Home, in 2004. This was followed by Open Door in 2006, which sold one million copies in its first week. The band then waited five years to release their third album, the self-titled Evanescence. The band has toured extensively across the world. Their 2012 world tour took in a number of dates in the UK, South America , North America, Australia, China, Japan and Indonesia.

The band has received five Grammy nominations and has won two awards — for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. Other accolades for the band include a Los Premios MTV award, a MTV Australia Video Music Award, a NRJ Music Award, two Teen Choice Awards and a World Music Award. Amy Lee was awarded the National Music Publishers' Association's Songwriter Icon Award in 2008.

The band’s line-up has varied with a number of members leaving at various stages in their history. One of the founding members, Ben Moody, left in the middle of their European tour in 2003. He was replaced by Terry Balsamo. In 2005, Will Boyd also left, with Tim McCord joining in 2006. During their 2007 tour, John LeCompt was fired and Rocky Gray decided to quit. These two members were replaced by Troy Lawham and Will Hunt.

Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee has worked on a number of other projects. Her version of “Sally's Song” was included on the soundtrack for Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Her collaborations with other artists have included Korn's “Freak on a Leash” single and Seether's Broken, which was featured on the soundtrack for The Punisher. She has also performed on tracks for David Hodges, Big Dismal and The Damning Well.

  • Great band horrible crowd

by Itsmandms on 2017-12-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

The pro was the Evanescence is amazing live and Amy Lees voice is best its ever been. Opera style and small orchestra. I was disappointed that the audience was VWRY RAUCUS AND IMMATURE. When she was singing accapela the crowd was screaming and shouting her name. I have never been to a concert where there was so much disrespect. A stoned/high person ran up to her. I dont think it was marketed that its to be a quiet sit down and enjoy concert not a mosh pit.

  • Evanescence was hauntingly good!

by Elsieee on 2017-12-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The concert was fantastic - loved the live orchestra accompaniment to the band. The music and sound was great! Amy Lee's vocals are amazing, she has the voice of an angel and plays the piano beautifully. One area of improvement would be having a schedule or itinerary available and also shorter breaks in between the stage set-up. There were a lot of people getting up and leaving throughout the concert at random times, and this took away from the experience. I also wish that security would have talked to the annoying heckler in the back of the audience who kept commenting on the "hot" conductor throughout the show.

  • Orchestral Bliss

Finally, Amy Lee as she was meant to be heard. Backed up by an almost 30-piece orchestra, her voice shone bright as ever. The melding of rock and classical music was seamless. Amy Lee is a powerhouse and I consider myself very lucky to have witnessed such beauty.

  • One of the most amazing and magical performances!

by Slatchman1 on 2017-12-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

What can I say it's Evanescence. It's Amy Lee and her beautiful voice (even better in person). It warmed my heart, it made me cry and made feel all sorts of nostalgia from when they first came out and I was in middle school. As my music taste matured, so did Evanescence's music. I have a whole new appreciation for them and as scary as I thought it would've been to change the classic versions of their older songs, I have to say they did it well. The orchestra and electronic elements actually enhanced it. I love both versions of all the songs played. I think most people would too!

  • Amazing concert!

Amy Lee's voice is hauntingly beautiful, and paired off with an incredible orchestra, it just made everything sound more amazing. Great night and great venue.

  • What a beautiful, amazing experience.

This show is not to be missed. If you are a fan of the band you need to go. I have seen Evanescence 3 times. This format was very different than the 2004 and 2007 concerts I attended, but different in the best way possible. Amy Lee was perfect vocally as always. The mix of rock guitar and drums mixed with a full orchestra and Amy's angelic vocals and piano was a mind-blowing mix of sound and beauty. I was literally moved to tears by what I experienced. Thank you, it was a pleasure to experience and an honor to witness.

  • Great show, perfect music with an orcheatra

Great show, Evanescence is even better with an orchestra.

  • Evanescence brings her A game with lots of support

by Handyandy on 2017-12-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 4 out of 5

Good set of energetic music. The orchestra adds a great element to her performance. The set was a bit short with no encore. She is very talented and her audience seemed to be impressed

  • Magical evening

by TaxMaam on 2017-12-11Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was magical. The combo of strings...brass and metal rock provided a multi layered soundscape to frame Amy's powerful and angelic voice.

Good seats for the price point. Show was amazing! That voice with the orchestra was a fabulous experience!
