About

Rock group Evanescence, initially formed in 1994 by Amy Lee and Ben Moody, released three EPs before the end of the ‘90s and an album called Origin. By 2002 they were signed to Wind-Up Records and expanded the line-up to include musicians John LeCompt, Will Boyd and Rocky Gray. In 2003 they released their first official album, Fallen, which sold over 15 million copies.

Evanescence released a live album, Anywhere But Home, in 2004. This was followed by Open Door in 2006, which sold one million copies in its first week. The band then waited five years to release their third album, the self-titled Evanescence. The band has toured extensively across the world. Their 2012 world tour took in a number of dates in the UK, South America , North America, Australia, China, Japan and Indonesia.

The band has received five Grammy nominations and has won two awards — for Best New Artist and Best Hard Rock Performance. Other accolades for the band include a Los Premios MTV award, a MTV Australia Video Music Award, a NRJ Music Award, two Teen Choice Awards and a World Music Award. Amy Lee was awarded the National Music Publishers' Association's Songwriter Icon Award in 2008.

The band’s line-up has varied with a number of members leaving at various stages in their history. One of the founding members, Ben Moody, left in the middle of their European tour in 2003. He was replaced by Terry Balsamo. In 2005, Will Boyd also left, with Tim McCord joining in 2006. During their 2007 tour, John LeCompt was fired and Rocky Gray decided to quit. These two members were replaced by Troy Lawham and Will Hunt.

Evanescence's lead singer Amy Lee has worked on a number of other projects. Her version of “Sally's Song” was included on the soundtrack for Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas. Her collaborations with other artists have included Korn's “Freak on a Leash” single and Seether's Broken, which was featured on the soundtrack for The Punisher. She has also performed on tracks for David Hodges, Big Dismal and The Damning Well.

Great performance by Amy Lee and the entire band and orchestra

  • WOW

by Agamemnon on 2012-02-29Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Was glad to hear her in her best because I was somewhat doubtful about what she would sound like live. Blown away by the show. Heard what I wanted to hear live and was amazed by the range of her vocals. Was also great place to hear the show. More personal not seated way up from the stage as with other venues

I don't know where to start, but it was AMAZING! I was so close up I could seen everything :) out of all the concerts I've been to, so far this was the BEST! I loved everything, the sound, the music, the emotion the DRAMA <3

  • I had my doubts....

    by Stc139 on 2011-11-02Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Like everyone there, I was incredibly worried about seeing Evanescence live because Amy Lee is Notorious for her on again/off again vocals. But she was ON FIRE! I honestly don't believe she missed a single note all night. This is a drastic improvement from the last tour where she was hardpressed to hit a single note. She definitively rocked out and gave it her all. The band kinda stayed in the background dressed in black, they know their place. Tim at times did sing along and come up to the crowd and play, but all others stayed in their receptive corners. After Ending with Your Star and My Immortal, I do believe that everybody left bawling their eyes out.

  • Evanescence ROCKS

by Bass on 2011-11-01Métropolis - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

Loved the show, what a great energy, Amy's voice is unbelieveable. BUT, it was a long, wait and two starting acts which were ok but long especially no seats which I do not understand that on the ticket there were designated seats but yet no seats so I find this totally ridiculous. I have no problem if you charge more money but provide seats. I saw a lot of people suffering and just sitting on the floor so after a long wait outside ligining up then you have to stand for two acts. Not crazy about Metropolis espcially people are smoking and hanging around with glass wine bottles...you never know what might happen.

  • Evanescence rocked the house!

by Fireflycross on 2011-10-31Métropolis - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

Venue was crappy, packed and standing room only, no seats/stools as advertised. Washrooms were clean. Music was awesome, sound was great and opening bands (Rival Sons and Pretty Reckless) were good. Good mix of new songs and favorites.

  • Evanescence was amazing!!!

by rudick on 2011-10-31Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Amy Lee is the best!!! Now I like her even more. Evanescence is very popular and I really enjoyed the concert. Moreover there was The Pretty Reckless, whom I like too.

awesome awesome show but they didn't play long enough !!!!!!!!!

  • Excellent Concert

by Ibanez on 2011-10-31Métropolis - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

It was an excellent show. Her voice was right one, the band was tight, lighting was really cool. Having seen them last time in 2007 at a much bigger venue, I was happy to see them in a much smaller venue with better acoustic. The only small negative for me, It did not last long enough. They did do 17 songs, but concert only lasted 1 hour and 15 minutes.

  • Great Great Show

by garluc on 2011-10-30Métropolis - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

A really great show with Emy in good shape. Brillant performances by the whole group. Again, too short. It seems to be the branding of Evanescence to perform only 60 minutes. Is there some energy missintg?

  • Evanescense-Metropolis (Montreal)

    by review4uFans on 2011-10-30Métropolis - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

Evanescense delivered an amazing show as expected. Lighting as fantastic and well coordinated with each song that Amy Lee had in her repertoire. The show started without delay and on time.

  • Evanescence - A show not to be miss...!!!

by MJosee on 2011-10-30Métropolis - MontrealRating: 5 out of 5

The show was awesome...1 hour of intesity on stage for Amy Lee... she was top shape last Thursday, her voice is sublime and they give an unforgettable show. Definitely, I would go back. And the music & show from the 2 bands in the openeing acts were really good too.

  • Evanescence... Wow ! :D

It was just amazing... I discovered Evanescence when I was only 8, and I still love them, even more, I should say ! =O I would like to see them again RIGHT NOW if I could ! :3

  • Evanescence keeps on rockin'!

by DesertSong on 2011-10-29Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

Amy Lee sang beautifully and the band sounded tight. They performed a bunch of new songs, but didn't forget about the classics, either. If I have any complaint, it's with the venue. The Sound Academy stage is just a bit too low, and it was hard to see.

  • 4th time, still not disappointed

by EvChemical on 2011-10-29Sound Academy - TorontoRating: 5 out of 5

This is my favourite band, I can't say I will ever be disappointed with their show. Also, the opening acts were amazing, especially The Pretty Reckless. I hope they tour with Ev again, if not headline their own show.

  • Metropolis is a great venue to see a show

Great venue and the bands rocked it!!!!!!! Would go to Metropolis for any show. Amy Lee is awesome live and on record!

  • Evanescence : GREAT .... but short :o(

by FireDiver on 2011-10-29Métropolis - MontrealRating: 4 out of 5

We went to the Evanescence concert at the Montreal Metropolis and we had a GREAT time. We were introduced to 2 supporting groups, the Rival sons from LA and Pretty Reckless from New York. They both were a great way to start an evening. Evanescence came on stage about 10 PM and they gave a great overview of their latest self titled CD and a good mix of their 2 previous efforts. They performed all their hits in rapid succession. The only down side was that they got off stage at quarter past 11 PM and left me on my appetite for more. With 3 complete albums under their belt, I would have appreciated at least an hour and a half from the headlining group. We are far from the 2 and a half hour shows of old school RUSH!

Amy Finally has learned how to interact with the crowd!!! She was amazing and her voice is so haunting. Everyone seemed to rock out really hard, but I do think more older songs were needed to make sure that Evanescence fans can still appreciate the roots of this awesome band. Can't wait for the next show!!!

  • Evanescence = Awesome
