About

Indie pop trio Foster the People came together in Los Angeles in 2009. The group is known for psychedelic, dance-orientated pop and rock which spans many genres. Their 2011 album Torches has sold over 321,000 copies and their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was the sixth-best-selling digital song in the same year, selling 3.84 million copies.
The band was formed by Mark Foster in 2009. He provides lead vocals and plays several instruments, including keyboards and guitar. His fellow band mates comprise Cubbie Finkton on bass and Mark Pontius on drums and percussion. Their first song “Pumped Up Kicks” was an internet success in 2011 and the group was offered a record deal. The band slowly began to build up a fan base by making appearances at small venues and appearing at several music festivals, including South by Southwest and at Coachella. They continued to perform and were booked for a month-long residency of concerts at the Echo night club in LA. By the time they came to perform for the third time, there were hundreds of people queuing to get in and the group were beginning to capture public attention.
Their single “Pumped Up Kicks” was released in 2011 and gained airplay on alternative radio stations, entering the Billboard Rock Songs Chart as well as the Alternative Songs Chart. In May of the same year, the track entered the Billboard Hot 100. Later that month, the group released the album Torches, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 8. The band then embarked upon a sell-out tour in the US and Europe that lasted 10 months.
The band continued to build up a following, with ”Pumped Up Kicks” breaking into the mainstream top 40 and spending eight weeks at No. 3. Foster the People have scooped several awards for their music, including Top Rock Song for “Pumped up Kicks” at the 2012 Billboard Music Awards. They have also been nominated numerous times, including two Grammy Award nominations for “Pumped Up Kicks” and Torches. At the awards ceremony, the band performed alongside Maroon 5 with The Beach Boys in celebration of the Beach Boys' fiftieth anniversary. In addition, the band have been nominated for two NME Awards and two MTV Music Video Awards. Their latest album is called SuperModel.

So good, their energy was so high and their beats are just so upbeat and good! The commodore setting was better, more personal closer quarters. But deer lake was good and it didnt rain, a plus!

    Foster The People w/ Guests

by RiniBee on 2012-06-27Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

This is the 2nd concert I've been to at Deer Lake Park, with the first being Black Keys last Spring. I must say the event coordinators learn from their mistakes from previous events because I enjoyed the event so much more than the last. The line ups to get in, to get food & bevies ran smoothly. I mainly came to see Kimbra... but was absolutely impressed with Mayer Hawthorne & The County as well. The only thing I would suggest is that there was a lot of down time between opening acts, and the main show. Why not have the opening acts play even for one song more than they did...

    Awesome.

by BobDaBuilder on 2012-06-27Deer Lake Park - Burnaby

Can't get any better than hearing them live. Crazy song with Kimbra and the mix of dubstep into "Pumped up Kicks" are a few worthy mentions.

This concert was unforgettable from start to finish. Everyone who played it was amazing! tokyo police club rocked out first and blew everyone away with a crazy set. Then foster the people came on and just got better better. I was about 20 feet from the stage best seats i've had in a concert, so far!

    Foster rocked, Downsview did not

by ocean156 on 2012-06-22Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

The concert itself was amazing. Mark Foster is great fun to watch, especially live. I will go to a concert at Downsview Park but I will never pay for VIP again. VIP in my eyes should mean a closer view of the concert. you pay the extra money for closer seat indoors so i feel it should be the same at Downsview. I barely even stayed in the VIP area once I seen how far back I was. I was deeply saddened to have spent that extra money just to end up with those who spent less. As for better bathroom conditions, I also went to the regular area and used a bathroom right away while the VIP had a HUGE long lineup. Yes the drink lines were quick but again regular priced area was just as quick. Downsview VIP was huge disappointment & waste of my money. The music however was wonderful.

    FTP was A-W-E-S-O-M-E!

by melanie1712 on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

The venue was perfect for my ideal summer concert, outdoor and grassy, you could be super close to the stage if you wanted and sound was great. Foster put on such a great show! I heard every song I wanted to and loved all the lights and the sun with changing emotion according to the song. The torch man also threw paper airplanes at us. They were even more amazing live then I expected, it was SUCH a fun show!! I'd love to see em again

Tokyo Police Club & Foster the People stay upbeat

by closetleaffan on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

I expected the atmosphere at Downsview Park to remain sombre after the saddening stage collapse before the scheduled Radiohead concert on Saturday night, but Tokyo Police Club and Foster the People did their best to liven up the site with their catchy lyrics, up-tempo beats, and, of course, their Pumped Up Kicks.

    Best night of my life

by LeahBeans3 on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

This show was hands down, the best I've ever been to. It started off with a nice stroll around the venue, checking out the merch tents and purchasing beer tickets, and then we parked our buts rather close to the stage. Kimbra and her band came out shortly after, and as always, she put on amazing performance. Her quirkyness winning over our hearts. After a brief lul, Tokyo Police Club took the stage, and toughed it out through the wet heat, and sounded amazing. Then of course, was why we were all there. The banner rose, and out came foster the people, looking suave as ever. The stage props were phenomenal, and the stage presence even better. The crowd was buzzing with excitement, and the farther on into the show, the dancier everyone got. My favourite part was easily Pumped up Kicks, what a rush! If you ever get the chance to see these fine boys, I recommend you do it, every chance you get.

Both opening acts were a great way to get you set up for the spectacular show from Foster the People. Everyone is so talented and has great energy on stage. The extremely hot day did not matter because you were bound to be jumping up and down in the crowd anyways.

    Foster the People is Amazing!

by beth32 on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

Foster the People was such an amazing band to listen to in concert. Not only did they just play their songs, they added new flavours to them - going into a more acoustic style or rock style. They did their songs in different keys, and were able to connect with the audience. It was great!

    Everything but the Venue

by McNoah on 2012-06-21Downsview Park Allen Road - Toronto

Everything was perfect, i mean, perfect. Except the music could have been a touch louder, it was perfect. And it took 2 hours to get out of the parking lot. But TPC and FTP were amazing
