About

GARY NUMAN IN CONCERT:

Inimitable new wave necromancer Gary Numan is as celebrated for cult classics like "Down in the Park" as he is for mainstream '80s superhits like "Cars." Masterfully balancing mass appeal and a darker edge, Numan led audiences through the full gamut of emotions at his 2013 shows, shifting from vitriolic sneer to vulnerable yelp and back again as he wended his way through fan favorites like "Complex" and "We Are Glass." Featuring a full band, an army of icy synths, and his signature lighting design, Numan's 2014 tour dates will deliver more of the intense spectacle he's become known for.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

English-born Gary Numan pioneered commercial electronic music in the late '70s and early '80s with his icy, angular, synth-drenched take on pop's new wave. Following a stint fronting epochal electronic rock outfit Tubeway Army, he struck out on his own, landing three consecutive No. 1's on the UK Albums chart between 1979-1980. Numan's fascination with dystopian themes and technology was a through-line in his music,  and nowhere was it more apparent than on "Cars," his first international No. 1 and a defining moment in new wave music. A consummate showman made legendary by his spectacularly choreographed live shows, Numan continues to record and tour, hitting the road once again in 2014 in support of his 22nd studio album Splinter (Songs From a Broken Mind).

FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:

"Gary is still an amazing performer! His band is so talented and energetic! The show was completely mesmerizing! Well worth the ticket price!"

"Fabulous concert -- by turns edgy and vulnerable, hard driving and lyrical. Gary is a superb performer as one can see just by listening to his many live albums and watching his concert videos"

"If anyone asks you, 'Gary Numan... in 2010?' the answer is YES. Phenomenal show. Pleasure Principle came out in 1979 so you might think this could sound dated but it didn't at all! He's a tremendous performer and the sound was spectacular."

    Numan sounded unbelievable---great voice!

by migsy on 2010-10-26The Opera House - Toronto

It was a great show and well worth going to if you're a Numan fan. He played the entire Pleasure Principal as well as a couple of classics and very good new material. His energy was amazing and his voice was superb. the tech crew could have mixed the sound better---and brought Gary's vocals out more...that's my only criticism.

Numan Gives Nice Mix Of New & Old @ Opera House

by TADAWE on 2010-10-26The Opera House - Toronto

When Mr.Numan opened his show with "Airlane" on this memorable Sunday evening I was a little bit worried as I had just read of the cancellation of his Atlanta show due to a complete loss of voice. And of course Airlane, from The Pleasure Principle,is a instrumental so naturally I thought his voice was again suffering.I was incorrect in my assuption. On this night Mr.Numan did a nice cross-section of newer and older tunes including: Are 'Friends' Electric,Sacrifice (my favorite of the night),Down In The Park, M.E. and of course the crowd pleaser Cars, to name only a few of this wonderful evening's set. This tour is the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the album "The Pleasure Principle" and seeing how Gary is not a nostalgic kind of bloke it was great to hear this album in its entirity. In closing I would like to thank Gary Numan and Nash The Slash for this very memorable evening as well as Noel (the promoter) for bringing these two old friends together for one out-standing show. And I hope Gary will come back soon!!

    Numan still human

by MarkMacDonald on 2010-10-26The Opera House - Toronto

It has been 30 years since I saw Gary Numan at the Danforth Music Hall and I would say he is still on his game. This year is a continuation of his Pleasure Principle 30th Anniversary Tour which was his most successful album released. I was delighted to see Nash the Slash open the show. Nash opened for Gary 30 years ago as well and they have remained friends and collaborated ever since. Nash played Phasors on Stun which is the first time I have heard him play any FM material solo. Nash also joined Gary on stage for a song later on. Gary played the Pleasure Principle album followed by many of his synth driven era material such as I die You die, Down in the Park and Are friends Electric?. He played a good cross selection of his catalogue including his industrial style music. Although the show may have seemed subdued at the beginning it reflected the mood of his early work and it progressed just as his music has. The show was approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes which was well over the 75 minutes I expected. It finished with very high energy and I got the feeling he seems to be enjoying himself. The sound mix was excellent, great use of minimalistic lighting, all in all an intimate setting with a big production feel which was most likely felt by all who were present. If you are a fan, young or old this is definitely a great way to spend a night out with your kids, like I did.

    numan rocked the opera house

by wgIII on 2010-10-26The Opera House - Toronto

numan really rocked the opera house in toronto. at least for half the show. the first half of the show was strictly the pleasure principle material (makes sense seeing as this in the 30th anniversary tour) and that was all well and good. however, once gary and the boys finished with 'cars' and put away the front two keyboards things really started to cook!!! the whole energy of the show changed. gary and his awesome band were amazing. lots of energy, great songs, great performances!!!! i was looking forward to this show as i have become a real fan of his newer music but this was better than i expected!!! can't wait til he (they) come back!!!
