After opening band Steeltrain left the stage, some of the crowd went to the bars for drinks, so my fiance and I moved right up to the stage and waited there while the roadies set up for Gomez. My only complaint was that we were in front of the amplifiers, so we didn't get the full effect of the the sound system. We could only hear the sound coming from the stage monitors, which lacked the big boom the rest of the audience heard from the amps. It was still cool. We were so close that we could hear Ben Ottewell's vocals coming directly from his mouth on slow songs like Bone Tired, rather than coming through the amps. It was a unique experience to be that close, but we decided to move back after they came out for the encore, so we could enjoy the fully amped sound.
Fantastic show! Great atmosphere and a solid performance from the boyz! Looking forward to the next time they're in town, we'll be there for sure!
This was the 3rd time I saw Gomez. One of the best shows that I have ever seen in my life. I go to as many shows as I can afford and this one was one of if not the best ever. Gomez is such an underestimated band. They truly are talented musically and lyrically. LOVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Being a huge fan of Gomez I was all too happy to hear that they were returning to Toronto after the relase of their latest album A New Tide. Although not my favourite venue for live music I had seen the boys a number of times and knew no matter where they were performing they would put on a great show. Taking my spot at the front of the stage infront of one of the bands 3 front men Ian Ball the show got underway with a healthy mix of new and old classics. Ian, Ben and Tom all sounded great vocally. A little more banter with the audience would have made the show all that much better, but overall the boys of Gomez did not disapoint. Their unique sound and distinctive voices make them an amazing band to catch live. With Ian's setlist in hand I left the venue, and got in my car looking forward to the next time the boys from Southport return to Toronto.
