About

Goo Goo Dolls, a band that rose from the punk scene in Buffalo, New York, penned several of the most definitive hits of the ’90s. Forming in 1985, the Goo Goo Dolls experimented with hard rock before landing on a winning formula that incorporated elements of acoustic and alternative rock for 1995’s A Boy Named Goo. The album yielded the band’s first Billboard 200 chart placement at No. 27 and its unlikely third single “Name” climbed to No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 1998, the band vaulted to global ubiquity with “Iris,” a ballad written for the City of Angels soundtrack that later ushered in their quintuple-platinum sixth album Dizzy up the Girl. The song remained atop the former Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for 18 weeks, a record that stood until 2020. The Goo Goo Dolls solidified their stratospheric success with the equally catchy follow-up single “Slide,” which hit No. 8 on the Hot 100 and was certified platinum itself. In 2002, Gutterflower earned the band their highest Billboard 200 peak at No. 4, while 2006’s Let Love In added more catalog highlights like “Better Days'' and a cover of Supertramp’s “Give a Little Bit.” Founding members Johnny Rzeznik and Robby Takac have toured extensively across the 2010s while maintaining a steady output of new projects, including 2019’s Miracle Pill and 2022’s self-produced Chaos in Bloom.

    Goo Goo Dolls

by PGJL on 2011-02-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

Good show, lots of fun, excellent showmanship and rapport with the audience. The Goo Goo Dolls's sound system could have been better ablanced...hard to hear the vocals over the music.

    Great show despite sick singer!

by Jamball on 2011-02-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

People can say what they want about Johnny, he didn't sound well or look well but he still got up and sang the best he could. Can you imagine if he cancelled/postponed the show? People would've been very angry with him. So I give him credit for getting up there and singing the best he could! They played a great mix of new and old and I don't think anyone left saying "they didn't play my favourite song" (unless your favourite song was off one of the first couple albums) The great part about this band is they have the bassist that could sing a few tunes while Johnny rested his voice. All in all, I'd definitely recommend everybody see this band.

Good show. Lead singer was sick with a cold - full marks for continuing with the show and doing his best under the circumstances

Goo Goo Dolls Much better then I expected

by FirstTimeGooGoo on 2011-02-21National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

I bought the tickets on the premise that I liked Johnny as a Judge on "The Next Great Ameican Band" and found him to be very intelegent. I wanted to see for my self if he indeed was that person on TV. He was more. Performing beyond the call of duty, Johnny did the entire set with the flu. Of course you get alot of "Oh, I know that song" moments with the Goo Goo Dolls realizing that you know more then you yhink. The Band performed flawlessly. Except for the one song he started over because his voice shut down from the flu. Not often you see this happend but it was done with professionalism. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the evening. My only complaint, it was over too quickly.

I've waited 15 years to see the Goo Goo Dolls perform, and it was well worth the wait! They were every bit as amazing as I ever anticipated. Great performers! John Rzeznik is a charmer, constantly looking up to grin at the ladies! Robby's still rockin out!

    Goo Goo was Ill

by bothexted on 2011-02-20National Arts Centre / Centre national des Arts - Ottawa

The show was ok- with our opening band sounding quite nice. Goo Goo dolls had sound isses. They were also affected by a lead singer who was obviously ill. He coughed during his performance and let the band sing instead.
