About

The Grey Cup is the annual Canadian Football League (CFL) championship game. The game have been held nearly every year since its inaugural match in 1909, with exceptions between 1916 and 1918, as well as 2020. The trophy has exchanged hands with many notable recipients, including its Grey Cup-leading, 18-time winner Toronto Argonauts and the CFL’s longest dynasty, the Edmonton Elks, who claimed five consecutive championships between 1978 and 1982. The final, which is accompanied by the week-long Grey Cup Festival celebration, has regularly changed its host city, with Toronto, Vancouver and Hamilton holding the most exhibitions throughout the years. On November 17 2024, the 111th Grey Cup will be played in Vancouver for the 17th time overall, with BC Place set to be the venue for the 10th time.

    Quick Six Saloon

by SK50 on 2009-11-30Telus Convention Centre - Calgary

The Saloon and all the events were geared to the younger crowd. We were disapointed in the bands and entertainment provided. The room was large enough but again no place to sit and have a drink. It was more like a pick up bar for singles!!!

    Fantastic Outcome

by Sanman on 2009-11-30McMahon Stadium - Calgary

I would've never believed it if i hadn't seen it myself. That will go down in history as one of the most ridiculous ways to lose a Grey Cup Championship ever!!

Calgary did itself proud with this Grey Cup event!! All the artists were awesome - Great Big Sea was the icing on the cake! Great festival atmosphere - everyone was smiling and really enjoying themselves.

    SO BAD....

    by Rose102 on 2009-11-29Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Tickets say doors at 7pm, but I want to know when the show starts, so I phone around. Nobody knows for sure. It started at 8pm. So we sat about and waited for an hour, some gymnastic people performed, but an hour was too long. First the tenors perform, they are great, but they only do two songs? Then for about 20mins while the stage is being changed we sit in the dark and watch Grey Cup highlights from years gone by. Sophie Millman's next. After insulting football, she performs three painful songs. In her regard I have no idea if she was any good cause to me jazz all just sounds like noise. Then we need to change the stage again, so the crowd is left sitting in the dark watching Grey Cup coverage again. After 50 years of games all that's available is the same 5min. clip played over and over and over?? Divine Brown was good but she complained she needed sunglasses and I agree, From her set on whoever was running the lights sent blinding spots bombarding across the stage, and at random into the audience blinding us. Then we wait in the dark again and watch THE SAME 5 MINS OF FRICKING GREY CUP COVERAGE AGAIN!! George Canyon was brilliant, but we're still being blinded, and after his set we again wait in the dark watching the same coverage!!!! People are walking out, but we came to see Great Big Sea and be damned we're going to. But are we in the right frame of mind? NO! So, all the build up just made us surly and despondent. The Boys blew the hat off Calgary's stadium, but man was the rest of this "Gala" beyond unprofessional and bad.

Fun Party, but needed more Tenors

    by Glorious60 on 2009-11-29Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

The evening started with the best performance of the night and sadly the Canadian Tenors were limited to 2 songs!! What amazing voices and performance and a shame that they were given such minimal time. There was something for everyone's musical taste and George Canyon was definitely great entertainment, but the sound quality was not that good. Great Big Sea was great as usual and brought lots of energy to the place.

    Great Big Sea

by Mikejeep on 2009-11-29Pengrowth Saddledome - Calgary

Great show last night. All the artists were good in their own way. Great Big Sea were awesome. Too bad the organizers did not spend any money on a sound system. The sound was just terrible.

    A Night of Highlights

by trotter on 2009-11-28Telus Convention Centre - Calgary

The CFL Player Awards was a very well run evening - great reception prior to event and opportunity to see "CFL Hall of Fame" memorabilia. Dave Randorf is a natural as host - very entertaining. Great to be part of the CFL's finest players night of recognition, as well as opportunity to mingle with players/dignitaries afterwards. Especially enjoyed the focus on amateur football, as well. Thank you, Gibsons and TSN for a very entertaining night.

Great time at the awards very cool being able to get pictures taken with players and TSN personalities!! Ordurves were awesome and and being able to talk football with some other fans was very cool. Dave Randorff was on fire last night, did a great job MCing the event, thought it was very cool when they went live to Spotscentre and did updates live at the show.

    player award night

by cflfane on 2009-11-27Telus Convention Centre - Calgary

I have been a CFL fan for 35 years, I support everything CFL, I promote CFL. Last night the players awards was well attended by players, after the function players were available for a meet and greet, couldnt find the actual award winners however. But the actual awards was an average performance. One day our league needs to budget more money for these events to make them 1st class, we still havent stepped up as a league and promoted ourselves as great. We always do a "nice" job, at some point our league needs to promote how great our league is, Hopefully soon before we loose to many young new fans.
