Hockey good, fan experience not so much!

by DugMac on 2022-09-04Rogers Place - Edmonton

We enjoyed the on ice product but have a number of concerns related to our experience. My first issue was purchasing tickets. We were looking for a multitude of games over and above the two packages available. We like to sit in the same seats all the time. We had to go in to each game to purchase and then had to purchase different seats for some of the games. We then found it interesting that the seats we wanted for those other games were empty. With respect to packages, there were no tickets for sale in the area we wanted. Therefore, we were forced to pay a higher price for tickets in another area. These tickets were club seats but did not have any club benefits for the majority of the games. When attending these games, it appeared the seats we would have preferred were vacant for the most part. While we were at several of the games, the ushers made no attempt to stop people from accessing more expensive areas. In some cases, the ushers were encouraging people to move to better seats. I noted that for some of the medal round games, tickets were put on sale. All of the above issues devalue the tickets I purchased. As a loyal fan who has bought tickets to the last four events in Canada and one in the US, it is disappointing when we purchase tickets as soon as they are available. There seems to be no recognition of this loyalty. As for the games, the rink was ice cold. There were games where I wore a shirt, two jerseys and a hoodie and was still cold. I have attended games in Las Vegas wearing shorts, a shirt and a jersey and have been comfortable. The concessions in the rink did not enhance the event and in fact detracted from it. I realize that the crowds were small but there could have been at least one in each end open throughout each game. Even as more opened, hours were inconsistent, prices were extravagant and there was no variety, particularly no healthy choices. Given the temperature in the rink, we were searching for a hot drink but unable to find one other than coffee. This is even more of an issue when the facility does not allow any outside food or drink. We attended more than one game per day, so finding food with limited time between games is a challenge.

    GOLD MEDALGame

    by d. s. on 2022-08-31Rogers Place - Edmonton

Instant classic. Best attended game of the tournament. Huge excitement in the Overtime period. MacTavish made play of the year. Will be highly regarded in year end reviews as far as games and moments that stood out in 2022. $194 ticket with a game that justified the ticket price.

    Chechia versus Sweden

    by d. s. on 2022-08-31Rogers Place - Edmonton

Bought an upper bowl ticket. Was upgraded to the lower bowl at no additional charge due to small crowd. A contingent of about 20 Sweden fans helped contributed atmosphere to the game. This was good because sometimes effort level can be questioned when two teams aren't playing for the Gold Medal. Both teams were competitive in a 3-1 Sweden win.

    Canada versus Finland round robin

    by d. s. on 2022-08-31Rogers Place - Edmonton

Great to have been at the game. MacTavish and Bedard scored goals with NHL calibre shots. Controversies played too big a part in round robin play. It was a very warm day outside and would have liked to have been able to get an ice cream float but the concession stand wasn't open.

    Hockey Canada missed the mark

by StillOurGame? on 2022-08-23Rogers Place - Edmonton

I’m a big fan of the tournament and have made watching the tournament for decades. This year it was tainted but I attended the gold medal game with my 5 year old son - his first hockey game. I decided to go to show support for the players and provide my son the experience with $50 tix. I could not justify any higher price as, frankly, hockey Canada does not deserve the further financial support. In my opinion, hockey Canada and the IIHF (who Hockey Canada would be a meal ticket for) could have made an impactful gesture by making this an ultra low cost event for families and hockey fans. Imagine the stands full of young hockey fans who entered for free to enjoy the sport and provide a new beginning for Hockey Canada and in a grand gesture to give back and commit to change. Instead it was continued price gouging and low attendance was blamed on an August tournament. Unfortunately the organizers, IIHF, and Hockey Canada are tone deaf and missed a pivotal moment for Canadian hockey.

    Great game but overpriced

by Beedubz on 2022-08-23Rogers Place - Edmonton

I understand that ticket prices had to be a slight bit higher bc of the new facility it was being played in but the tickets for mid august were waaay too high. The game was great but too expensive

    World Juniors

by Hockey guy on 2022-08-23Rogers Place - Edmonton

The arena was amazing. Large line ups at one gate but there was someone guiding people to less busy entrance. Thought I purchased tickets on the end that Team Canada shot twice as that was indicated as Oilers shot twice. Canada was home and should be same. No indication on TM site.

    All good but no crowd

by JrHockeyFan on 2022-08-20Rogers Place - Edmonton

All was good with ticket, arena, hockey was amazing. Only problem was no crowds except Canada games. Counted 150-250 max people in stands in a lower bowl that holds 12000. Really disappointing showcase for Canada and hockey Canada and believe tickets were unaffordable for too many people/families. Unfortunate when hockey and players were great and played their hearts out.

    It was a blast

We sat with the Latvian fans and they really knew how to enjoy a game. Even without winning.

    Overpriced

    by J. S. on 2022-08-19

Greed of IIHF to keep these already overpriced tickets at the same level even after the game starts is ridiculous. Smarten up IIHF and drop the prices 75%. Give them away to kids under 12. Seniors and veterans. Good game Canada. Many blessings upon your path to Gold!

    Fun night but crappy service

by Hockey on 2022-08-19Rogers Place - Edmonton

The game was a lot of fun but the venue had horrible service. For the limited amount of people at the game there was very few people serving food and drinks. The line ups were long causing us to miss half of the second period. Wasn’t impressed with Rogers place.

    Could have been better

by Fan on 2022-08-18Rogers Place - Edmonton

I think it was pretty shitty that i went to a canada game and there was one 1-3 of the lower bowl with people in the seats. Could have lowered ticket prices and filled the building made it more affordable to the average hockey fans. And made it so family’s could afford to take there kids. Disappointing at best
