Hockey good, fan experience not so much!
by DugMac on 2022-09-04Rogers Place - EdmontonWe enjoyed the on ice product but have a number of concerns related to our experience. My first issue was purchasing tickets. We were looking for a multitude of games over and above the two packages available. We like to sit in the same seats all the time. We had to go in to each game to purchase and then had to purchase different seats for some of the games. We then found it interesting that the seats we wanted for those other games were empty. With respect to packages, there were no tickets for sale in the area we wanted. Therefore, we were forced to pay a higher price for tickets in another area. These tickets were club seats but did not have any club benefits for the majority of the games. When attending these games, it appeared the seats we would have preferred were vacant for the most part. While we were at several of the games, the ushers made no attempt to stop people from accessing more expensive areas. In some cases, the ushers were encouraging people to move to better seats. I noted that for some of the medal round games, tickets were put on sale. All of the above issues devalue the tickets I purchased. As a loyal fan who has bought tickets to the last four events in Canada and one in the US, it is disappointing when we purchase tickets as soon as they are available. There seems to be no recognition of this loyalty. As for the games, the rink was ice cold. There were games where I wore a shirt, two jerseys and a hoodie and was still cold. I have attended games in Las Vegas wearing shorts, a shirt and a jersey and have been comfortable. The concessions in the rink did not enhance the event and in fact detracted from it. I realize that the crowds were small but there could have been at least one in each end open throughout each game. Even as more opened, hours were inconsistent, prices were extravagant and there was no variety, particularly no healthy choices. Given the temperature in the rink, we were searching for a hot drink but unable to find one other than coffee. This is even more of an issue when the facility does not allow any outside food or drink. We attended more than one game per day, so finding food with limited time between games is a challenge.
