About

Jackson Browne has written and performed some of the most literate and moving songs in popular music and has defined a genre of songwriting charged with honesty, emotion and personal politics. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Songwriter's Hall of Fame in 2007.

Except for a brief period in NYC in the late 1960s, Jackson has always lived in Southern California. His debut album came out on David Geffen's Asylum Records in 1972. Since then, he has released fourteen studio albums, four collections of live performances, two "best of" compilations, two DVDs and several single recordings. Jackson's newest studio album, "Downhill From Everywhere" was released in July 2021 and GRAMMY nominated for Best Americana Album.

Browne is known for his advocacy on behalf of the environment, human rights, and arts education. He's a co-founder of the groups Musicians United for Safe Energy (MUSE) and Nukefree.org and a member of the Ocean advocacy group, Ocean Elders.

In 2002, he was the fourth recipient of the John Steinbeck Award, given to artists whose works exemplify the environmental and social values that were essential to the great California-born author. He has received Duke University's LEAF award for Lifetime Environmental Achievement in the Fine Arts, and both the Chapin-World Hunger Year and NARM Harry Chapin Humanitarian Awards. In 2004, Jackson was given an honorary Doctorate of Music by Occidental College in Los Angeles, for "a remarkable musical career that has successfully combined an intensely personal artistry with a broader vision of social justice."

A great night with a musical icon. His true and devoted fans were not disappointed. He's laid back and connects with the audience with ease.

  • Edmonton show was terrible

by joeblu on 2017-05-13Winspear centre - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

I went to his concert in Edmonton and it was a huge ripoff. All of his new material was boring. He was very unprofessional. He was talking way too much and tying to tell useless stories. He started the intro to a song, then stopped and walked off stage. He came back with the lame excuse that his piano wasn't tuned right. So unprofessional. Overall a big disappointment. I will never go to any of his concerts again.

  • Incredible sound

It's not often that an artist will take audience requests. Made the night much more personable. He's a very talented musician, had about a dozen different guitars to play. An excellent venue with stellar sound.

  • Jackson Browne was AWESOME!!

by JoyMart on 2017-05-01The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening with Jackson Browne. He was fun, genuine, sincere, engaging and wonderful! He expressed true emotion and appreciation of his audience, and sang the songs we love and cherish. I cannot wait for him to come back to Vancouver!

  • Jackson Browne is Still at the Top of his Craft!

by Teddyrose on 2017-04-30The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Wow, this is the second time I have seen Jackson Browne. The first time was as a teenager and it was in a big stadium. This time he was in a smaller venue and the acoustics were excellent! Browne's voice has not changed once bit so hearing him in a venue that really matched his talent was such a treat. I have to say I got annoyed with how much the audience shouted out songs they wanted to hear. I think he would have played most of them anyway and I really wanted to experience the show as Browne originally intended it. He would also start to talk in between songs and get interrupted by the shout outs. Let the man speak!

  • Jackson was Generous

by DanMan on 2017-04-30The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

On time and 3 hours of show. No ego just great music. Never saw so many guitars on stage for Jackson and his very capable accomplice. Much of the set list was determined by the crowd. Jackson and his guitar mate then picked the instruments they wanted to play for the song.

  • He is a legend!

by Whippo on 2017-04-30The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

There were so many guitar behind him, he pick one up it depends what he sings, what he plays. He answered requests from audience so friendly, felt like we were just chatting. Every single moment was just awesome! Outstanding!

  • A great artist

Enjoyed the show! The audience was ridiculously rude at times , typical Vancouver audience!

  • Jackson Browne - Charming, Brilliant Poet of Song

by Dylan63 on 2017-04-30The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

He played audience requests, responded with humour. His repertoire is huge, the words are meaningful, his voice as strong and smooth as ever. We all wanted more. He humbly included songs of people he loved like Warren Zevon and Valerie Carter.

  • Not just for avid Jackson Browne fans...

by RedRobinsonRegular on 2017-04-30The Centre in Vancouver - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

My wife and good friends (who I purchased the tickets for, and who were not "avid" fans but came based on our recommendation) really enjoyed the evening. This was an intimate experience with a truly great songwriter of our era, and two amazing musicians. Bare bones, no real plans (as proven by the changes in set list as the audience shouted suggestions) and really laid back fun. Jackson was interactive with the crowd, clearly appeared to be enjoying himself, and so relaxed and engaged - it was a great experience. It wasn't a "greatest hits" night, it was more of a night of songs and memories. Although I and our group certainly didn't recognize many of the songs, they were performed from the heart and great music always engages the listener. A really great evening and experience.

Jackson Browne put on a fantastic show. It was worth it.

  • Jackson was average at best

by Nikspapa on 2017-04-26Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 2 out of 5

Kind of a bland concert to be honest with you. With the catalogue of hits that he has, you'd have expected to hear them all. A couple of his best were left right out. He spent too much of the concert playing obscure tracks by other artists. The encore was short and sweet, he seemed in a hurry to get out of there. It could be argued that he was limited to what he could play without a rhythm section, but when he played the Concert Hall 6 years back it was the same setting and he played all of his best that time. Nice to see him in a setting like the Burt, but left there a little disappointed all the same.

Great show in Winnipeg. I especially liked it when he played requests from the crowd. A true professional and great songwriter.

  • Good old JB

by 71coopdeville on 2017-04-26Jack Singer Concert Hall - CalgaryRating: 4 out of 5

I don't know all his stuff but all his stuff is great if you love the singer songwriter style of the 70's. He's a true icon & an all around genial & top notch performer who hasn't lost a thing. He mixed up his set and went with the flow as he treated us to Boulevard "played for the first time without drums" as a request.Of course there were many popular songs not played & a few slower ones I wasn't familiar with but that shouldn't surprise anyone.I do thank God though that we got Doctor My Eyes! That girl could sing was very poignant as were many others.I Am A Patriot and The Load Out/Stay were a great way to close.Very enjoyable just for the highlights even! .

  • Best Concert in Years, Go if at all possible

by GCalgary on 2017-04-26Jack Singer - CalgaryRating: 5 out of 5

Saw Jackson Browne in Calgary last night and at the risk of hyperbole, best concert I can ever recall. He played over 3 hours with a 15 minute break, just him and an acoustic accompaniment. His voice has not changed. His crowd interaction, humor and modesty was remarkable. He played old and new, all brilliantly. If you like Jackson Browne and go to no other concert in the next year, go to this one.

  • Awesome concert and performer

by FitzD on 2017-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 5 out of 5

It felt like we were sitting in his living room and listening to Jackson perform. He was so personable, hjumble and bantered back and forth with the crowd. The sound level was perfect. There are too many concerts where you need to take ear plugs or protective ear muffs because some deaf musicians turn it up way too loud or perhaps they are trying to make up for quality with quantity. Sarah and Sean Watkins were also exceptional musicians and they all sounded so good together. Seats were great and the concert was a nice long one. The acoustics in the theatre were perfect. my only issues was that my electronic ticket to my phone did not work and I had to stand in line 2 times in order to get in.

  • Crystal Clear Sound

by Carns on 2017-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 4 out of 5

I found the recent Jackson Browne concert to be of great sound quality and the voice of Jackson Browne has certainly been well preserved over the many decades. Unfortunately this concert lacked structure in that he opened up the option of straying from the set list and individuals of the audience started calling out names of songs that they were hoping to hear. I found this to be disappointing and frustrating as ever so valuable time was wasting and the show was ever so quickly losing its flow of: structure, progression and mood. Once this was realized, the show quickly regained structure by returning to the set list and the level of intensity was quickly recovered much to the relief of all.

  • Jackson Browne

Awesome... acoustic!!too much audience yelling for songs, First balcony very warm.

  • Fan Friendly but.......

    by Celtic7 on 2017-04-25Burton Cummings Theatre - WinnipegRating: 3 out of 5

Very disappointing concert overall. Musician-ship was great but, with a GREAT catalogue of sons, his choices were NOT fan-oriented. Playing for 2+ hours, less than a handful of hits/ notable songs and 1 encore, made it like the seen from "Wayne's World 2" where Garth feels like he's at a Kenny G concert getting his teeth drilled. AGONIZING!!!! Too bad he didn't, in my mind, consider his fans like other classic rock acts that STILL know and understand that their fans come for the hits and other somewhat well-known songs.
