Decent but not a great spectacular
by chiefkewj on 2014-03-05BC Place - VancouverThe game was great, not taking anything away from the game that went on. The game itself deserves stars as it was hockey after all. Vancouver jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period, only to give it up and end the 1st with a 2-2 tie. Ultimately losing in the end to the Senators 4-2 in their home. But what was sad, and takes stars away from this event as a whole are the following; 1) the dome was closed as opposed to being open, which took away the idea of an outdoor game and turned it into a giant indoor game. Given Vancouver's seemingly unpredictable weather, generally mild temperatures compared to cities that would have actual winter weather, not sure if Vancouver should have been considered. 2) crowd just was not in it, aside from the random cheers, and the 2 reactions from Canuck goals, the crowd at BC place just was not in the game or seemingly behind the team. Start of 2nd intermission Bieska even requested the fans to get into the game, to get loud, but could they do it? No. I heard more from Senators fans throughout the game. The biggest reaction came when a fan ran onto the field and attempted top lap the rink. 3) Unfortunately, management politics played a role in this game. It was evident by the crowd before the game started they were not pleased with Luongo being benched, and maybe the lack of the crowd being in this game was due to this. As I said, game wise it was great, event wise it was disappointing.
