About

The 2023 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic is set to feature the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers. Including that game, there have been 37 regular-season outdoor games played to date, attended by 1,851,642 fans. The Flames-Oilers outdoor matchup will mark the seventh NHL Heritage Classic, which includes the inaugural game in Edmonton (2003), as well as games in Calgary (2011), Vancouver (2014), Winnipeg (2016), Regina (2019) and Hamilton (2022).

Decent but not a great spectacular

by chiefkewj on 2014-03-05BC Place - Vancouver

The game was great, not taking anything away from the game that went on. The game itself deserves stars as it was hockey after all. Vancouver jumped to an early 2-0 lead in the 1st period, only to give it up and end the 1st with a 2-2 tie. Ultimately losing in the end to the Senators 4-2 in their home. But what was sad, and takes stars away from this event as a whole are the following; 1) the dome was closed as opposed to being open, which took away the idea of an outdoor game and turned it into a giant indoor game. Given Vancouver's seemingly unpredictable weather, generally mild temperatures compared to cities that would have actual winter weather, not sure if Vancouver should have been considered. 2) crowd just was not in it, aside from the random cheers, and the 2 reactions from Canuck goals, the crowd at BC place just was not in the game or seemingly behind the team. Start of 2nd intermission Bieska even requested the fans to get into the game, to get loud, but could they do it? No. I heard more from Senators fans throughout the game. The biggest reaction came when a fan ran onto the field and attempted top lap the rink. 3) Unfortunately, management politics played a role in this game. It was evident by the crowd before the game started they were not pleased with Luongo being benched, and maybe the lack of the crowd being in this game was due to this. As I said, game wise it was great, event wise it was disappointing.

    Taking care of me

by Ogreman on 2014-03-05BC Place - Vancouver

This is a hard one to talk about. I took my two teenage boys ( their first Canuck game btw ). I started the day by buying them both a jersey of their choice, then went to find our seats ( sec 207 r-ff s5-7). It was just before the national anthem when my phone rang. It was the hospital calling. My mother was in lions gate dying of cancer and she had taken a turn for the worse. My father was also there visiting, and he was not feeling well either. So there I am, surrounded by 50 thousand people and I can no longer contain my emotions. I could not justify staying at the game, so I gave the boys some cash and told them to stay, enjoy the game the way their Nana would want them to, telling them I'd pick them up after. So off I went, wet faced and all. As i left, I thought to myself, " maybe I can get some of my money back?". This is where you guys stood up and delivered! Standing at the ticketmaster window outside, your staff didn't even blink an eye. I was quickly reembersed and on my way. Thank you for that, I'll never forget it.

    Great atmosphere!

by VancouverMillionairesFTW on 2014-03-05BC Place - Vancouver

Amazing day, I had the time of my life. Poutine and hotdogs during the game. Nucks kicking ass in first period. Even though we lost, it was still great! The fans and staff all great.

very forgettable. fake snow, poorly managed acknowledgment of the 1994 team, overcommercial "this tim hortons game is brought to you by tim hortons" the music of tegan and sara was great. will not be going to such a game again

The game was awesome. Had great seats, excellent light show and entertainment. A bit chilly, but what do you expect in the middle of winter. Overall, excellent - enjoyed the game and the atmosphere.

    Entertainment was Great!!!

by Flyersgirls on 2011-02-27McMahon Stadium - Calgary

It was an awesome experience to be there....even though it was very cold out, there was a warm feeling with the players and the fans...the line ups for the bathrooms was not fun and took forever What I was not happy with, is that on Global News on Friday, they showed that all the people going to the Heritage Classic were to get hat, mitts, scarf and Tim Hortons seat cushion....the only thing we did receive was the Tim Hortons seat cushion...so for the price of the tickets, they should have provided us with the rest of the items....they DO need to look at that in any future events Other than that, I have a fantastic time and would go again for sure......Thanks Calgary for putting the event on!!!!! :)

    time for a new stadium

by stacks on 2011-02-24McMahon Stadium - Calgary

The line-up to get in was very long and we had to wait in line for over 45 min. The Stadium is due for an upgrade to match a city of a 1 million people.

Unforgettable experience of a life time!!!!!!!!!

    by Gizmo27 on 2011-02-24McMahon Stadium - Calgary

The events leading up to the show were great. Also having the little timbit team was a nice touch. I would hope that the heritage classic could be heald every year. I would go most definately. I try to go to as many montreal canadien games as possible, that was my biggest reason for going to this game. I think I would go whether my team was playing or not because the whole experience was unforgettable. Having the seat covers on the chairs as a keep sake was also a nice touch. It was great that is was an early game because towards the end the cold was getting to be a bit much. Would definately suggest doing this every year.

    heritage classic gem

    by crazycanuck2 on 2011-02-24McMahon Stadium - Calgary

Game and atmosphere were amazing. Washroom and concessions were typical for Calgary.....wasted too much time in line-ups. Otherwise, it was a great day.

Heritage Classic was a once in a lifetime event.

    by Munlaw2 on 2011-02-23McMahon Stadium - Calgary

While the higher ticket prices were justified due to the costs of producing this unique event, I would be reluctant to attend another outdoor hockey event unless I knew I had good sightlines and an elevated seating position. I would recommend having a colour commentator (like Peter Maher in the Alumni game the day before), so that the audience can be more engaged in the proceedings.

The Tim Hortons Heritage Classic was Awesome

    by Saskfan91 on 2011-02-23McMahon Stadium - Calgary

We attended the Heritage Classic as a family of three. My wife and I won great tickets via the NHL Alumni Raffle and we were able to purchase a ticket for one of our sons to attend with us. His seat was on the same side of the stadium as us but not that great a seat. We took turns in the seats we won. We attended the Alumni Game as well as the Heritage Classic, and the events were phenominal! The entertainment and stuff to do outside the Stadium were first rate and fun. Inside the Stadium was a party as well. We had a great time and are looking to book the 2013 Heritage Classic if it is out West again! Way to go to all the organizers!!
