Great dancers In beautiful and colourful costumes. The backdrops were also well designed.
The performance was AWESOME and glad to share this event with my family.
The colourful costumes were beautiful but choreography was often not in sync and one dancer even stumbled ( I’ve never seen that in a ballet ever). The biggest disappointment was the lack of a live orchestra. I also found the performance quite short. Stunning Arabian dancers. Also I was stunned to see that the audience was seated after the performance started. Very disconcerting.
the dancers were out of sync with each other. not as good as i expected
Clearly not Moscow’s best. I even caught one of the male dancers yawning during the performance and a number of times dancers muddled their steps. The principal leads are solid but all the supporting dancers are clearly amateurs. Local kids did the kid role which was cute but they obviously hadn’t had a ton of time to practice. Steps were simple and repetitive. Beautiful costumes and backdrops. No live orchestra. Had I known I would never have spent that much on the tickets.
Choreography is quite simple but classic. Sometimes the color of the costume (Harlequinn Doll) matches with the color of stage-decoration (Christmas Tree) makes the dancer invisible.
Although the set decorations were amazing I found the dancers boring and lacklustre. No energy. I have seen the nutcracker before by the royal Winnipeg ballet and in the opening acts they used local kids. Not too impressed with seeing kids in the first acts let alone throughout the-whole dance. Would never go to another Russian ballet again.
Enjoyed the show. Performance superb. Stayed true to the traditional story.
Highly creative and gorgeous costumes. Breathtaking. The duo performing as a dove of peace caught my eye and imagination which motivated me to purchase a ticket. Ah, the heavenly music. Imaginative: pairs of dancers representing colourful corners of the earth. What stamina and talent. The Balinese dancers, the high-jumping Ukrainian young male and so on. A rave review.
I went to the Nutcracker show in Vancouver, BC, November 13, 2016. The worst show ever! An embarrassment to the Russian ballet. The dancers cannot even do simple moves. Half of the time they are just walking on the stage. The choreography is boring.Coming from Russia and being exposed to the best of the Russian ballet I can tell that this is not something you would want to spend your money on.
Love the show! The beginning was a bit slow. The QE theatre must have turned off the Air Conditioning because it was hot and very close and made us both want to fall asleep! The second half was really beautiful and more lively. House was full, lot’s of the Russian community there, added to the atmosphere!
My family was totally mesmerizing by the wonderful performance by Moscow Ballet. My 10-year-old girl loved it. The dance was artistically choreographed, the characters were beautifully played, the costumes were dazzling, the music and atmosphere were simply magnificent. A true holiday treat.
I was disappointed. Being The Great Russian Moscow Ballet, I expected a GRAND performance, yet, it was poor stage scenes, disorganize, customs where not well elaborated....I rated Poor!!
A cheaper option to the Royal Winnipeg, the Moscow Ballet's version of this Xmas classic delivers with stunning costumes and an impressive second act. First act is more of a pantomime than a ballet and there is no orchestra, but for the price, it definitely puts you in the mood for the Holidays.
I can say that I am satisfied with the performance. I was living in Russia for 40 years and I saw a lot of ballets in Moscow, Novosibirsk and other cities. This crew is rather good.
It was a beautiful tale in 2 parts. Great music, gorgeous costumes, lovely dancers. My only disappointment was to see little local dancers (from the local North Shore ballet school), it was too many of them sometimes and I found them being rather distracting. However, you can never go wrong with the Moscow Ballet. Got 2 wooden nutcrackers too. Definitely recommend!
I always love seeing The Nutcracker. This year I brought my family along and I think we all really enjoyed it. Having the young dancers join in the ballet was also very special and completely adorable.
I've always wanted to see the Nutcracker and now I finally have! Though I feel this was probably the scaled down, budget version reserved for small towns, I was not disappointed. The costumes were spectacular and the dancing was good and that is all that matters. The sets, backdrops and props were pretty basic but still effective. My only real criticism was the lighting which, frankly, was horrendous. There were ghastly shadows on the backdrops and dark holes on the stage where you couldn't see the dancers.
The Ballet was very good. The dancers and their costumes were amazing, the music quality was good. We had great seats. The only thing I didn't like, or thought they could improve on, was the lighting. The lights were set up in a way that cast shadows on the backdrop making it very difficult to focus on the dancing. The shadows of the dancers took away from the scenery as well. The venue was an ice arena, and they used only the end section. I found the venue to be a little too big for this event. It lost the cozy appeal.
The ballet was beautiful and the costumes were stunning. The dancers did a wonderful job and there were definitely some 'wow' moments. The lighting was terrible and distracted me from the dancing and sometimes I felt like I couldn't see well. I don't know if this was a venue issue or what.
