About

Pet Shop Boys (Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe) are the most successful duo in UK music history. Since signing to Parlophone Records in 1985, they have achieved 42 Top 30 singles in the UK, including 22 Top 10 hits and No. 1s. They have released 12 studio albums, all of which have made the UK Top 10 as well as album charts around the world.

In 2000 they received the Ivor Novello Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music and at the 2009 Brit Awards they were presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Music.

As writers, producers, and remixers, Tennant and Lowe have collaborated, remixed, or written for a wide range of artists including Dusty Springfield, Lady Gaga, Liza Minnelli, Madonna, David Bowie, Yoko Ono, The Killers, and Girls Aloud.

Pet Shop Boys have also written the West End musical Closer to Heaven with playwright Jonathan Harvey, produced in 2001 by the Really Useful Group. In 2004 they performed their soundtrack to the classic silent film Battleship Potemkin with the Dresden Sinfoniker in a free concert in Trafalgar Square presented by the ICA, and they have since performed it at various spectacular outdoor events in Germany, Spain, and the UK. In 2011 Pet Shop Boys composed a ballet, The Most Incredible Thing, based on the Hans Christian Anderson story of the same title. The project was a collaboration with choreographer Javier De Frutos and Britain’s leading dance theatre, Sadler’s Wells. The ballet won the Evening Standard Theatre Award and was given a second season at Sadler’s Wells the following year.

In 2012 Pet Shop Boys appeared before a worldwide television audience during the London Olympics’ closing ceremony. Two years later, Tennant and Lowe's collaboration with Alan Turing biographer Andrew Hodges, A Man From The Future, received its world premiere as a Late Night Prom concert at the Royal Albert Hall with the BBC Concert Orchestra, the BBC Singers, and narrator Juliet Stevenson.

In their live shows over the last 20 years, Pet Shop Boys have created an original and influential style of pop musical theatre, collaborating with directors, designers, and artists including Derek Jarman, David Alden and David Fielding, Zaha Hadid, Sam Taylor-Wood, and Es Devlin. Their 2009-2011 arena tour Pandemonium was described in a five-star review in The Times as “the ravishing pop spectacle of the year”.

Pet Shop Boys released the album Electric in 2013, produced by Stuart Price. The album received great critical acclaim and gave Pet Shop Boys their highest album chart positions in 20 years in the UK and USA. The accompanying Electric Tour subsequently visited 38 countries over three years and received ecstatic audience and critical reactions.

Pet Shop Boys’ 13th album Super was also produced by Stuart Price and was released worldwide on April 1, 2016. In July 2016 Pet Shop Boys will play an exclusive four-date residency entitled Inner Sanctum at the Royal Opera House in London. The concerts will be staged by designer Es Devlin and choreographer Lynne Page.

I was there mostly for New Order who rocked it. Pet Shop Boys didn’t disappointment either. Great show and music between bands was great too, felt like I was teleported back to my clubbing days! Would see them both again in a heartbeat!

    Such a great vibe!!

by Manda on 2022-10-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Pet shop Boys are the greatest ever! But adding New Order and Oakenfold to the mix… nothing less than FABULOUS the only complaint I have is the VIP section was stuffy and too hot. Not enough seating for everyone so people were sitting on the floor. But the experience as a whole was the greatest I have had ever

Pet Shop Boys, yes, New Order, no

by Jan on 2022-10-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I was very excited to see the two bands on the same bill since I grew up aware of both of them. I didn't particularly like the Pet Shop Boys at the time, but I have to say that I came to appreciate their talents from this show. While the musicianship of New Order was spot on (and the lights/lasers show was awesome), the vocalist was clearly not up to the task. I know that he is the only original member of the band (which is cool from a nostalgic point-of-view), but after hearing two songs, my wife turned to me and said, "he sounds awful." I wasn't as familiar with the two songs that they had just played, so I thought that I would give them the benefit of the doubt until I heard something that I was familiar with. Once they played Bizarre Love Triangle, I knew she was right. The BAND (which he never introduced, by the way - not cool) sounded great, but the vocals detracted from the experience. Then there was the crowd (or more accurately, the people in the row in front of us). Even though they had been sitting for the show up to that point, the people in front of me stood up halfway through Bizarre Love Triangle, so I could not see ANYTHING. They remained standing for most of the New Order set, which was irritating, and muffled the sound. My wife felt that it was okay for them to stand up because they were excited, but I didn't pay to see a show so that a tree could sprout up in front of me, and then become a forest. I can remember when my daughter and I got floor seats to see the 1975, and the tall people in front of us actually moved so that we were closer to the stage and could see better. Thankfully the forest didn't stay for the Pet Shop Boys. The Pet Shop Boys were GREAT. As a non-fan (my wife was a huge fan back in the day), I was amazingly surprised. Their light show was not as "impressive" as New Order's was (more black-and-white on the screens, rather than lasers and bright lights, which I came to realize was a part of the effect/esthetic), but every other aspect of their show blew New Order out of the water. The vocals were exactly as I remember the recordings, the musicians were amazing (and humbly introduced by the vocalist, which was definitely a plus - the band worked hard and it was obvious), the costumes were great, and the overall positive "vibe" of the band was contagious. I would definitely see them again, just to see their show.

Pet Shop Boys and New Order concert in Vancouver

by AJ on 2022-10-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

After waiting two years during the pandemic, this concert was worth the wait. Incredible visuals, choices of songs, and amazing performances from both bands. I wanted to see it again the next night, but Vancouver was sadly their last stop on the tour!

    NEW ORDER / PSB

    by YVR_DYR on 2022-10-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

Paul Oakenfold Opened Order the Oct 16th 2022 Rogers Arena Show. New Order followed and then The PSB. IMO, New Order stole the night. Their sound was punchy and the band played tight! A real treat. They actually sound better than ever! And what you hear, is what the band is playing! PSB were good but didnt get the crowd moving as much as New Order. Neil Tennant's vox seemed a little distorted/crushed at times. That was not his fault. More of a Front of House Mixing issue. They should have played a few more of their earlier years songs. Afterall, that is what the majority of the crowd always wants. Overall, PSB were good but it was New Order that made it a Great Evening and Value for the Dollar.

Paul Okenfold, Pet Shop Boys and New Order......A spectacle.

by Monster on 2022-10-19Rogers Arena - Vancouver

I was a little apprehensive because I was going to this show by myself..... Let's talk about the show. First, shout out to Paul Okenfold! He played Electronic's Gettin Away With It and the crowd went nuts. Honestly it nearly brought me to tears. He was alot of fun, very entertaining and he had the crowd hopping. He was acknowledging the the crowd and pointed at people and having fun too. He was cool and definitely a welcome addition to the show. Next it was New Order. To put simply they did a smoldering set which highlighted how tight the band is. My personal favourite song was Blue Monday and the homage to Joy Divison with images of Ian Curtis projected on the large screen Transmission/Atmosphere. New Order were great and I'm really pleased to have seen them. Next Paul Came back on and did his thing. During this set he played Jump Around and the crowd was once again very animated and thoroughly enjoying themselves. While this was happening I was watching the stage hands setting up the PSB gear. If you see the youtube fancams you can see the huge gate used for this performance. So the gate came down and a large blue and yellow stripe was projected onto it. (Ukranian flag?) while a stomping version of Babel by the artist Rone was playing. Almost sounds like a PSB song. Now, we all know that PSB put on a spectacle, it goes without saying, and I'm sure others will agree that PSB really are seminal artists and this show definitely puts them into the history books. I'll choose my personal highlight from PSB, it went something like this: Neil walked over to the far left of the stage right infront of where I was standing. (this was right before they played Love Comes Quickly) I shouted "Neil!!" and he looked right at me and waved! (woo hoo!!) Then they did the three-song transition of Love Comes Quickly, Losing My Mind and Always On My Mind. It was wonderful-- the whole show was. It is afew days later and I'm still elated. All those apprehensions about going by myself have melted away.

interesting and insightful but a little lame

perhaps they should just lipsynch the vocals....one had to focus hard to understand which hit song was being performed
