About

Pop-rock musician Phillip Phillips wowed “American Idol” fans and judges in season 11 with spot-on covers of iconic songs including Steve Wonder’s “Superstition”, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”, and Otis Redding’s “Hard to Handle”. Phillips’ scratchy vocals, reminiscent of his own idol Dave Matthews, are exemplified in his chart-topping debut single “Home” as well as sweet, mellow tracks like “So Easy”. His platinum-selling first album The World from the Side of the Moon includes the upbeat love song “Gone, Gone, Gone”, which is sure to be a wedding song for Phillips fans for years to come. The Georgia-born singer/songwriter wound up taking home the title of American Idol, but only after dealing with congenital kidney issues that landed him in the hospital for eight surgeries during the “Idol” season. Phillips recovered in time for the “American Idol LIVE Tour”, performing major-market concerts alongside the season’s nine other top contestants. The 46-city trek sold more than a quarter of a million tickets overall, placing it at No. 62 in the Top 200 North American tours of 2012.

Phillip Phillips put on a great show here in Ottawa. His band was great, vocals were great, and he was friendly with the crowd. The stage was simply arranged, and the lighting augmented the performance. I'd definitely recommend seeing him.

Phillips delivers, much more than expected

by Avalon58 on 2014-03-17Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

Having watched Phillip Phillips win American Idol, I was hoping something would come of it as I really enjoyed his performances. Question was, would he put an album out and would he tour and would anyone take notice? Yes, yes, and yes. I must admit that being a big Dave Matthews fan I was kind of expecting something along those lines. PP sure does have the DMB vibe. The first song absolutely blew me away. I don't know his songs, but this one was very "funky" as he described it, and he jammed away for about 10 minutes. I thought if he keeps this up for 90 minutes, I would be impressed. I was much more than impressed. This young man is going to get big, really BIG.

I thought Phillip Phillips was a great concert for the money spent. He was very energetic, and really seemed to love doing what he is doing. It catered to all ages, we even had a toddlers sitting beside and infront of us, as well as teenagers, and elderly people.

Opening band Twin Forks was awesome...never heard them before but they were very interactive with the crowd and was a great warm up. I must admit, while Philip put on a good show, he didn't really seem to care where he was. I felt no interaction with him and the rest of the crowd...he seemed very arrogant. Perhaps the fame got to his head already...its a shame. I would not pay to go see him again but I still enjoy his music.

    Fantastic

by gto3113 on 2014-03-17Sony Centre For The Performing Arts - Toronto

You go to a typical concert and expect one thing, to see the act you paid for. Generally the opening act is just filler until the main act. Not so in this case, Twin Forks was excellent. Their job is to get the ball rolling and get patrons in the mood for the main act, they did this and some. Twin Forks made a fan out of me. Phillip Phillips was surprisingly spectacular. My wife and I only knew a few of his songs going in, but from Idol, we loved how he performed. He worked his tail off and made everything entertaining. I would see him in concert again in a blink. Only thing that seemed off was the keyboard player. He strolled out with earbuds on and put forth zero emotion in his performance. Not that it mattered to me, just seemed odd, almost like, I'm here, pay me and I'll be on my way.

    a great concert!

by janedoh on 2014-03-16Hamilton Place - Hamilton

Phillip Phillips was way way way better than I expected. He was obviously good on American Idol, if a little awkward, but released from the constraints of that franchise, he has a completely different vibe. He is very charismatic on stage, funny, comfortable in his skin and an amazingly versatile performer. He does the folky stuff that we are familiar with from the radio, gritty bluesy rock, jazzy numbers, and even an Eminem cover, and he does them all equally well. It was a really fun, energetic concert. The audience loved him. I would see him again in a heartbeat.
