Thursday’s experience no food no shuttles

by Golf fan on 2019-06-09Hamilton Golf and Country Club - Hamilton

Parking was a breeze coming from the country side. Lots of shuttles going to the course. Lots of walking Golf was great Fly by was a fantastic experience. Disappointed in the consession stands. No black tea in the first one. Cost $8.50 for a bottle of water and a muffin. Did not know I could bring my own empty bottle. Did not find that on the website. Lined up for lunch only for them to run out of food and beer. Later another stand ran out of many food items. I followed the rules and did not bring my bag for the chair which makes it difficult to carry. Others were allowed in with their chair bags. Then waited an hour for a shuttle to get back to our car. And you wait for hours to see a top player and the camera guy sets up in front of you. Next time I will watch on TV. But the fans around us were fun to talk to

    A little better planning needed

by RedDevil1878 on 2019-06-09Hamilton Golf and Country Club - Hamilton

Great weather and great field this year. Attended the Thursday session. Some concessions though ran out of food/beer repeatedly during the lunch hours. The bus shuttle service back to the Fairgrounds was a nightmare. Patrons had to wait in lines in what seemed like thousands for the few buses that were running during the peak hours. More buses needed to be utilized.

    Brutal transportation

by Litalia on 2019-06-09Hamilton Golf and Country Club - Hamilton

Having spending a great day watching the best golfers in the world, we were faced with a disaster when we went to get our shuttle. People were lined up down the sidewalk outside the venue and some had moved 50 ft in an hour. It was at least a 2 hour wait for a shuttle to take us to the parking lot. We took an Uber back to the lot instead. We heard of horror stories of people taking up to an hour to get to the lot as well. If Hamilton is to host this again, this definitely needs to be improved.

    Disappointed

by Senior Golfer on 2019-06-09Hamilton Golf and Country Club - Hamilton

We have been going to the Canadian open for many years The experience at Glen Abbey has always been amazing !! Well organized from beginning to end This year in Hamilton was the complete opposite From the traffic jams on the 403 and Hwy 52 to the shuttle service at the Ancaster Fairgrounds the trip there just to get on the grounds took over 21/2 hrs The venue itself was well organized with lots of viewing areas and well marked directories . However service at the food concessions was poor with long lineups and after waiting in line for 20 minutes to be told they had run out of food and beer?? Numerous golf carts racing around the cart paths often made walking very hazardous!! But the worst was yet to come. Over an hour to wait outside for shuttle service in the heat of the day with over 1000 people Glen Abbey we miss you!! We can only hope that this venue is still available in 2021 as they surely know how to run a successful event

    Rained out.

by Two Carrs on 2019-06-08Hamilton Golf and Country Club - Hamilton

We attended Wednesday pro am. Unfortunately only got to see one full hole played. We started at one and at the end of the hole the rain started. The group teed off on the second hole and then the lightning came and the horn was blown. We waited a couple of hours and golf was safe to resume. We started again, watching Sergio and his group, close to the hole one the thunder started again and the course was evacuated. Very disappointing and expensive experience. Shuttle bus service was great. Lots of helpful volunteers. Sad we didn’t get to see the course and watch great gol.

1904 Club was a total waste of money..

by Anonymous on 2018-08-01Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

For the extra surcharge for the 1904 Club, you would expect something other than a bar and a patio - total waste of money, not recommended. Parking signs also could be a lot larger and more of them needed to find where to drive to.

It was fun until the rain came. The seats did not exist and the food was terrible but hey we went for the golf.

    Great day!

by travelagentmississauga on 2018-08-01Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

Fabulous day at the RBC open - amazing golf to watch. RBC has done a great job - amenities were really good. Highly recommend 1904 Club Access pass with rooftop deck and airconditioned club house - came in very handy during the storm delay and loved the upgraded food choices - lobster roll was amazing! Lots of free samples, interesting booths, loved the RBC Avion seating with free treats! Thx

Well organized with only a few irritations

by Garythegreat on 2018-08-01Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

Extremely well organized, as usual. Free parking and shuttle worked well. However bus return area from the Abbey should be spaced out more. Reason is that no bus could move until all others ahead of it were full and moved out. Packed buses behind had to wait a long time before they could move. Two other irritations. The increase in sponsor boxes has gotten out of hand. Prime example is 16th green where there was NO SPACE available any more for people to sit at the S end of the green. Even small spaces between the 'boxes' were fenced off. Really poor. Share the space people! More people can sit on the grass than in a few 'privileged seats drinking their beer. Lastly, remind the volunteer to not stand in front of people politely seated on the grass behind the ropes. They needed to be reminded (asked) to move to the side.

Fan Experience is More Like a Booze Fest

by Golffamily on 2018-08-01Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

We have been to the Canadian Open several times and have always loved it and it’s partly because of the fan experience. This year the Fan experience absolutely sucked. They have turned the whole event into a booze sampling fest. The has always been a lot of alcohol and several vendors but at least there was golf related events to go through. This year there was a couple at best. One of the main sponsors Golf a town has a golf putting event and after they give you $10 off coupon for their stores but pretty much don’t allow it to be used for any major brand of golf club or clothing (very disappointing). The 1904 club tickets are a waste of money unless you want to spend all that extra just to use their upgraded bathrooms. Very disappointed in the PGA that they care more about alcohol every year.

    Amazing golf

by MannyO on 2018-08-01Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

We enjoyed the day at Glen Abbey and walked the entire golf course. We would have liked to have seen more of higher ranked players however the quality of the fold was very good. We were disappointed there was no shuttle from the Go station on Thursday and had to drive. (Free parking provided)

    PGA Golf was wonderful

by Usfolk on 2018-07-31Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

Disappointed that rules published for what you could bring and carry were not followed. Many people brought huge bags, chairs, water bottles, etc. So if you followed the rules as we did, it was frustrating.

    Great event!!

by Loulabelle on 2018-07-31Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

The event was great but the seats in the trophy club were not worth the money unless you are a heavy drinker! Would not purchase these seats again.

    Canadian Open

by Nana827 on 2018-07-30Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

The event was extremely well organized - Kudos to all organizers. The cost of refreshments, however, is crippling! Glen Abbey Golf Club is beautiful and should not be sold for a housing project.

This was a Pan Am event and frankly very few good players were out and they were paired with paying clients who were often mediocre. The Thursday event was superior and of course the crowds less. Magnificent job by RBC and Golf Canada

Golf House access not worth it

by Anonymous on 2017-08-02Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

Listing says Golf House access can see six holes, when in actuality you can't see any. Definitely not worth the extra $40.

    Glen Abbey is Awesome

by Picheqt on 2017-08-02Glen Abbey Golf Club - Oakville

This event was well run. They thought of everything. Glen Abbey is an awsome course we should be saving not turning into houses.
