About

Daughter of a music professor; trained classically in her home country of Russia, Regina's passion for music was clear from childhood.  Once she completed her studies she moved to the Bronx, New York and her life has never been the same. Influenced by her Russian and Jewish roots, as well her new love for the city Regina's songwriting took off. It was in the underground music scene of the East Village where she found fame. Still, her music is always evolving, channeling  influences like Chopin, Janis Joplin, to experimenting with unusual instruments and vocal styles, Regina never ceases to surprise.

After a number of self-funded and distributed albums, she finally got her first proper release in 2004 when Warner Brothers re-released her 2003 self-released album Soviet Kitsch. She released the highly anticipated follow-up album, Begin To Hope, in 2006. The single from the album, "Fidelity", was a big hit and helped the album peak at number 20 in the US Billboard chart. Her fifth full album, Titled Far, was a smash hit, it entered the US charts at number three and raised Regina's profile worldwide. In 2010 she performed at President Obama's reception at the White House. Her latest album, titled What We Saw from the Cheap Seats also entered the US album chart at number three.

Regina first toured nationally with The Strokes and this was quickly followed by a tour supporting The Kings of Leon. A series of headline theater shows followed the release of the album Far and in recent years she has made frequent appearances during the European Summer Festival season. Away from music, Regina does a great deal of work for human rights charities and has raised money for Doctors Without Borders helping earthquake victims.

    Regina! Regina! Yeah!!!!!!!

by NinjaBritton on 2009-09-19Sound Academy - Toronto

Just what I expected from Regina, and then some! There were about 10 encore songs after the actual show!!! She was spot on that night; In my mind, she sounded better than on her records, as there was a warmth there that wasn't there before. Definitely one of the better concerts I've been to. You rule, Regina!!!!!!!

    Regina Spektor Delivers

by funkymummy on 2009-09-19Sound Academy - Toronto

Regina Spektor is a petite musical goddess. Her voice is as beautiful and perfect in real life as it is in her music videos. She was humble, gracious, funny, and infectious. the passion for her art exuded that night. it is talent like that that we need more of in the music industry. I was mesmorized at the range she has, and I just closed my eyes and enjoyed being in heaven listening to a voice of an angel for two hours.

    breathtaking & brilliant!

by blackelk on 2009-09-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Spektor is one of the most talented artists I have ever seen & heard. She has an excellent sense of musicianship as she becomes one with her music; it's there.. heart, body & soul! The percussive & rhythmic elements in her music, which are so apparent when she plays the piano, are unbelievable & unlike anything else I've ever seen & heard before. She is truly a unique artist in every sense of the word. Her vocal tone & range are both so impressive. I could sit & listen to her play for days on end.

    Real Love for Regina!

by Anabanana on 2009-09-18Sound Academy - Toronto

She. Was. Beautiful. Beautiful to look at, listen to, and laugh with. Even having my view obscured by someone's large head couldn't ruin this show.

    Regina was fantastic!!

by BeeSmith on 2009-09-18Sound Academy - Toronto

Seeing Regina Spektor live was fantastic, she blew me away. She is my idol and my inspiration, her voice was as perfect as it is on her cds. She very finely displayed her cute, quirky and kind personality on stage. When someone fainted she was kind enough to ask if everything was alright, which you wouldn't find a lot of people doing. I recommend seeing her for sure, I know that I will again.

    Regina is incredible!

    by mm88 on 2009-09-18Sound Academy - Toronto

I've been enjoying Regina's music for just about three years, and I saw her perform at Kool Haus in Toronto in 2007 as well. She played every song I had hoped she would play, and even a few I hadn't thought she would which made me very happy including Ode to Divorce, Bobbing for Apples and 'Love, you're a whore'. Regina hit [almost] every note, and was as fantastic as she always is performing live. The reason that this event only gets four stars from me is that the venue, Sound Academy, was far from intimate, and it was hard to see Regina very well unless you were very close. I hope that the next time Regina graces us with a visit (which I hope is sooner rather than later), I hope that she plays somewhere like Massey Hall.

Regina was phenomenal! She sounds better live than on CD and it was a fantastic show. She has energy and she played the songs that everyone wanted to hear.

Stunning performace by an amazing woman.

by Baraxis on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Regina Spektor is one of the most talented people ever. Her music is so powerful and full of passion, and seeing her live really takes that feeling to the next level. The music flows out of her, it's an incredible experience to share. The music resonates throughout every fibre of every audience member's being, as she just sits on stage opening herself up completely with lovely words and medleys. Her music has always really hit a chord with me, and since the first song of hers that I ever heard I fell in love with her music. And while her music in general inspires an imeasurable amount of feelings in me, experiencing her presence and passion live was intense, to say the least. One of the most amazing experiences I've ever had.

    Reg Spek

by murrk on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

It goes without saying that Regina is a hugely talented artist, where her vocals are identical if not even more powerful to that on her albums live. She was backed up by an extremely careful and talented band to complete a unique sound. The one problem I had with this show was the venue which I refuse to give any more of my business. Poor sound quality in a crowded long and narrow setting makes for an uncomfortable experience and unfortunately I wouldn't support her the next time if she were to play there again. However it is all about the music in the end and Regina never disappoints.

Regina Spektor = amazing music experience

by Rhesa on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Great happy, hippy vibe, young and old*er* fans alike, awesome musician and singer. Everyone was singing along, instruments included: piano, violin, cello, drums, & she also played an electric guitar for a couple of songs. At one point she played the piano with one hand and beat the seat of a chair with a drumstick while belting out a tune!! Definitely a must for everyone who appreciates a beautiful voice, a quirky charming style of lyrics and unique melodies!

    Bad Stage Set Up.

by GSTYLA on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

I went, and she sounded brilliant! However, I was on the right side of the stage, and couldnt actually see her behind the massive grand piano! It was a let down for sure.

    Regina never fails to impress

by Birdonawire on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

The acoustics weren't great but that didn't stop Regina from knocking our socks off with her seemingly endless supply of talent. Her songs are thoughtful and every time I listen to them I get something new from her lyrics.

Regina Spektor at The Sound Academy

by mangolango on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Regina Spektor was everything that I expected - beautiful woman (though it was VERY difficult to see her), beautiful voice, beautiful songs but really...a soft seat theatre would be a MUCH BETTER VENUE for her type of music - people were singing along (lovely lovely lovely) not dancing! Please come again Regina, but play at a Theatre with comfortable seats and a great view for all who attend...I only rated it a three star based on the venue - I KNOW YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!

Regina Spektor's incredible vocals and stage charm was very present last night at her Toronto show. I recommend that everyone buy tickets to the other shows on her North American tour!

You must see Regina Spektor live!

by cordelianne on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Regina's voice is gorgeous live - I sometimes thought it sounded even better live than it does on her albums. She played an impressively long set, basically her entire new album, Far, plus lots of old favourites. The audience was very into it and she definitely felt our love - sometimes I felt it was a bit much (there were young girls shrieking that they loved her during songs which I could have done without) however I think it was great she knows how loved she is in Toronto. I didn't like the location, true to its name the Sound Academy did have great sound, but otherwise it wasn't a good venue. It was really hard to see Regina - the piano could have been elevated - and the lighting was bad making it harder to see her. However, despite that it was an amazing show, I would definitely see her again! Hopefully next time somewhere like Massey Hall.

I swooned. And now my legs hurt.

by Liya on 2009-09-17Sound Academy - Toronto

Regina is an amazing performer. Her vocals are absolutely brilliant. The only draw back of the show was that it was difficult to see Regina. Especially when she was sitting to the piano. But it was amazing. If only I'd remembered my camera!
