Riverdance announces its 30th Anniversary celebrations.

Since Riverdance first emerged onto the world stage, its fusion of Irish and international dance and music has captured the hearts of millions worldwide. The Grammy award-winning music and the infectious energy of its mesmerising choreography and breathtaking performances has left audiences in awe and established Riverdance as a global cultural sensation.

To celebrate this incredible 30th year milestone, Riverdance will embark on a special anniversary tour, bringing its magic to audiences around the world.  This spectacular production rejuvenates the much-loved original show with new innovative choreography, costumes and state of the art lighting, projection and motion graphics. And for the first time Riverdance welcomes "The New Generation" of performers, all of whom were not born when show began 30 years ago.

John McColgan, Director of Riverdance said "It is both a privilege and a delight to celebrate 30 years of Riverdance and the unique journey it has taken us on. In those 30 years the show has transformed from a spectacle into a global cultural phenomenon - continuously evolving yet remaining true to its Irish roots. On this upcoming tour we look forward to welcoming 'The New Generation' of artists while paying tribute to the talented performers, creators, dedicated crew, and the millions of fans who have made Riverdance a worldwide celebration of music and dance."

Audiences will enjoy a unique and memorable performance which blends the traditional and the contemporary, showcasing the skill and passion of the world-class of dancers, musicians and singers in the Riverdance ensemble.

Had never seen Riverdance live and thoroughly enjoyed it - very talented dancers, singers and musicians. Loved the drummer! Also one of the male dancers is from the Vancouver area!

I had bought tickets 5 years ago to see River Dance and the show was canceled due to snow on the Coquihalla Highway. So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to be able to see it at last, and I was not disappointed. The show was truly amazing, the cast was excellent. I don’t think my feet were still through the whole show.

This is not the first time we have seen Riverdance but it's the first time we have been so close to the stage and it was amazing...we could see the incredible footwork close up and the facial expressions on the dancers faces. A very enjoyable & entertaining evening.

  • Lively & Entertaining

First let me say we thoroughly enjoyed the amazing, talented dancers in the show and would go again to see them dance. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the musical interludes. While nice to showcase the musicians, the interludes unfortunately were too long and as a result became boring... especially the drum solo. Perhaps the interludes are necessary so the dancers can rest? Nevertheless, after a time the musical interludes became monotonous.

Super lively and fun performance, with lots of variety.

  • Riverdance to a soundtrack?

by Fisherfool on 2018-04-16Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

I saw the performance 20 years ago. Perhaps that is why I was so disappointed this time. Like watching a movie after you've read the book. There were a total of 4 live musicians with the balance of the music on soundtrack. It was a huge disappointment. The performance was well done though. NO complaints about those that were there and the musicians were very talented folk, no question.. Just why come all the way to Vancouver for a soundtrack. This isn't an inexpensive undertaking for us with ferries, accommodations, meals etc...not to mention the price of the tickets. Last time the musicians were absolutely magical. This time they were talented but it was like lip sync in a way. So to recommend to a friend there would be a huge disclaimer.

  • River Dance was great. Sandman Arena sucks.

by Blasch on 2018-04-15Sandman Centre - KamloopsRating: 4 out of 5

A class act for sure BUT the performance was ruined by the constant deep fried smell of donuts and fries that clung to the inside of your nose. That thick heavy smell was so over powering it was making us nauseous and that smell was up my nose even after I got home. The chairs are so tight and uncomfortable we kept having to adjust our posture every 10 minutes. We were seated 3 rows down from the vendors and the vendors were noisy, and speaking in loud voices. What an unpleasant experience!! This venue, full of energy and clean and vibrant should NEVER have been held in an arena that sells greasy food. The 1st time I saw River Dance was in a proper theatre and there in itself provided a class act performance. There was no food smell, the air was fresh and clean and people were focused on the performance. It was quiet and we able to really appreciate and enjoy the performance. But at the Sandman Centre, there were loud voices, trays banging and trolleys rolling by. Kamloops needs a performing Arts Centre. Sadly, I will be avoiding anymore performances there. I have tickets to the Illusionists and Dirty Dancing and I am hesitant after this experience, but I bought them at the same time as River Dance.
