  • Robert Plant Just OK

    by ROb1000concerts on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Very courageous for the Band of Joy to let the North Mississippi All stars open for them, because they do everything the BOJ do but with much more street feel (just great). Admittedly I'm not a huge RP fan , but I really enjoyed his last album with Allison Krause. Unfortunately he didn't sing any of that music with the BOJ. I know Robert is an artist who doesn't dwell on his past life with Zeppelin but I was hoping for just a little more zip at show. He was treated like rock royalty by the Vancouver crowd and could do no wrong based on the response. The crowd were on their feet for most of the night which consisted of 50% slow songs, but for me its was just OK.

  • Robert Plant professional but out dated!

    by mocha22 on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Thought that Robert did not express to the audience enough. The audience wanted to hear more of Led Zeppelin songs. Could have ended at least on Stairway to Heaven or something....

  • Band of Joy with Robert Plant

by Ramdog on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 3 out of 5

Great concert, didn't expect Led Zeppelin but the show could have been a little more upbeat. There were a few songs that I could have nodded out to. All in all a good concert but would not go see Robert again.

  • Great Show, Great Band

by kcollopmik on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

Robert Plant is aging well. There will be no nostalgia tour for Plant, whose Band of Joy played an exuberant show in Vancouver on Sunday. No, Plant continues to "Ramble On" into new musical places. The Band of Joy is simply put, a very, very, very good band indeed. Four fine lead singers, including Patti Griffin, whom Plant himself -- rightly -- called "the best singer in the band". Not that she has no competition. There is of course Plant and in addition, guitarist Buddy Miller and multi-instrumentalist Darrel Scott. All took turns singing. All shone. The band lays out a wide range of rootsy Americana, British folk-rock -- including covers of Richard Thompson and vintage Fairport Convention -- blues, gospel and a few Zeppelin chestnuts for the die-hards, including "Ramble On", which was part of the show the last time I heard Plant in 1970. Robert is in fine voice. Highlights included "Please Read the Letter", Los Lobos' "Little Angel Dance" and Townes Van Zandt's "Harm's Swift Way". Miller's guitar playing was steller throughout and his own vocal rootsy and soulful. Led Zeppelin reunion? After his triumph with Allison Krauss and now this band, who needs it? "Ramble On", Robert.

  • To Loud

Can't these kids play the same music, but a little quieter? Its hard to make out what they are doing when the speakers are distorting. Great to see an icon, and playing with quality people in the Band of Joy.

  • Plant's still got 'IT'

    by classicrockrocks1 on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

As much as I was hoping Jimmy would make a suprise guest appearance, the Band Of Joy is an amazing group of musicians! There was a great mix of old, new and everything in-between. This was my second time seeing Plant (17 years in-between) and I would go again in a second given the chance. O-yeah, the Mississippi All Stars were pretty darn good as well.

  • STUNNING

Robert Plant and the Band of Joy was absolutly amazing! His voice still sounds the same as it did years ago.

excellent show, everything I expected from Robert Plant

  • The legend still has it...

    by allicat1999 on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 4 out of 5

I only wish that those who feel Plant is a metal rocker from the 70's could witness a show like this. Throw a great collection of musicians together, add a legend and an intimate venue and you get a very good, if not great, show. The QE almost seems like an insult for Robert Plant although he admittedly is not the draw he used to be. Maybe my expectations were too high but something seemed missing from this show. It may have been his glancing over his early solo work (only In The Mood made it from that era) or it could have been what seemed like some poor sound quality or mixing in the theatre. Regardless, it is a chance to see the man up close and to hear the magic that still exists in his voice. Die-hards like me will continue to follow Robert until his last days but please, please Robert, give us the satisfaction of touring with Jimmy, John Paul and Jason. There aren't a lot of years left in those pipes.

  • a legend

Wow....he still has a great voice! And has a fabulous band backing him up. Enjoyed it a whole bunch.

  • Plant at the top of his game

by OpiatedSteve on 2011-04-20Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

A truly spiritual night from the moment he stepped on stage. From the opening note of Black Dog, Plant and The Band Of Joy got into a dirty swampy groove and didn't let go. Unless of course they paused to wow us with their amazing gospel like harmonies. Joy is right...everybody left with a smile on their faces. Here's hoping a DVD is released by these guys..

Don't usually see Vancouverites on their feet in a venue like the Queen E. for anyone, especially for a whole show! That says it all!

  • Fantastic

by JumpDown on 2011-04-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Robert Plant still has everything it takes to be a big star. He's animated, fun to watch, has a great voice and his sets mixed the best of old and new. His old songs are arranged even better now. The entire band is excellent. One of the best concerts I've seen lately.

  • An evening to last a lifetime.

    by Craiger72 on 2011-04-19Queen Elizabeth Theatre - VancouverRating: 5 out of 5

Now I get why RB isn't in a hurry to chase around the world's stadiums with 40 semi-trailers and a small army of support staff to play the old beauties. Band of Joy is pure collaborative genius on a digestible and almost intimate platform - the theatre and not the arena. This was a rare treat and one that will be savoured for a lifetime. Please please come back to Vancouver!

  • Robert Plant's Band of Joy is SUPERB
