  • Thinks the circus needs a little update.

by Anonymous on 2010-03-16Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

My husband and I went to the Shrine Circus 12 years ago when we first started dating and enjoyed it, we thought we would take our 3 and 5 year old for the first time this year. Sadly we were disappointed. Our children lost interest by the second half and my husband and I by the first. We found it very old fashion and not all that interesting. The rides at the beginning where fun but the show itself seem to have very little fun or new interesting twist to it. Although our kids do not watch tons of TV or play video games we still find with all the special effects and action they see it takes a little more than cute dogs to keep them entertained for 2 hour. I usually would not write but I seen the review on my email and I thought if I don't say anything I can't expect changes. So my suggestion would be to make it more current. Thank you

  • Good but alittle boring

by misschristina on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

I thought the circus overall was a wonderful experience for the family, however I thought that some of the acts were boring and just appeared to have been thrown in at the last minute. I also thought that although for a very good cause, the prices for rides on the animals were alittle too much. Being the first circus our family has attended we did enjoy ourselves and will go again next year.

  • Great!

I myself found it great, the smell was a little disturbing being so close to floor. The kids got bored quickly and wanted to leave. Overall it was worth it, nice family event.

  • Not Cirque de Soleil

    by Nicky101 on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 2 out of 5

Okay, and maybe that isn't a fair comparison, but I was disappointed with the animal tricks at the Shrine Circus. The human acts were all good, but some of the animal tricks were sad and very disappointing. The only animal worth seeing was the elephant in my opinion.

  • Shrine Circus 2010 was AWESOME!

by Happyattendee on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 5 out of 5

I had to take time to write in and let you know how my children and I enjoyed the show. It was fabulous!!! They are still talking about the wonderful animals, and the amazing people. I feel that the show this year correctly portrayed animals as being kindly cared for, and their beauty shown for the enjoyment of all. It reminded me of the excitement and anticipation of the circus years ago. And, the stunts and acts of the individual performers were excellent as well. It was well timed, not too long, and not too fast paced. I have to say this is the best circus that I have seen in a long time!!!! Very well done!!!

  • Circus was perfect for Pre-schooler

    by Angel2A on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

This was a great show for the family. I do believe it is geared toward the pre-school aged children more than for the older.

We went to the Shrine Circus on Saturday March 13, 2010. It was my husband, myself, our 2 year old son and our 4 month old son. We had heard nothing but good things for this years circus...like it has been improved quite a bit from the last years. Well I would hate to see what the other years were like if this was the best year! It was not good at all. Me and my husband were so dissapointed. We found that it was very unorganized; people were going hear and being told to stay there; the music was so loud that we couldn't hear the ring master talking about any of the animals; during one act, the music continued obviously by mistake and the horses danced for way longer then expected; we saw an act twice; it was just a very dissapointing night. Our kids (mostly the 2 year old) watched, but was not as focussed as he should have been. He watched our home town parade more focussed then this (and our parade was nothing special). We found ourselves and many people around us not paying much attention at times just due to the fact that it was boring. Anyways, I would not recommend it to anyone, in fact I would spread the word "NOT" to go and we will not be attending this event every again. To spend $60 to get in and another $50 inside for rides was a big waste of money...at least it goes to a good cause.

  • Really Exciting

by LaurieP on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

The circus was everything you would expect. However, the music was so loud my son held his ears the entire time and said they hurt. Does the music need to be so loud?

  • Good show, too many extra costs!

by stonygirl on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 3 out of 5

I took my 3 nieces and their grandma on the family pack for just under $70. Pretty good price for an afternoon out. We went for lunch before the show to avoid having to stand in lineups and pay huge prices for food and drink. Parking was $15. The minute we walked in, there were tables selling lazer light toys. I couldn't afford to buy for them all. Then there were the elephant and camel rides, and the balloons, and the guys walking right by us selling cotton candy. I promised them a treat on the way home to avoid having to spend likely another $100 to get them all the extras! And the announcer kept saying "get your lights, get your balloons, get your ride tickets, etc". It's disappointing to take them there as a treat, spend a lot of $$, and then feel like I didn't give them anything by not buying the extras. The day still cost about $140.

  • Shrine Circus old & boring

by MADDADDY on 2010-03-15Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

The animals did not want to be there even more than myself they kept running away from the show. It's time to change it up and make it 20th century it has not changed since I was a child just it got shorter thank GOD. Only take your child if they are over 4 because all the little children cried most of the show.

  • Great family fun

Great time to spend with your family. Amazing acrabats and the animals too.

  • Shrine Circus was worth the money

by Matluk on 2010-03-14Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

The Shrine Circus always puts on a great performance! We loved it! The animals were respected by the trainers and admired by the audience. The high wire acts were incredible esp the spinning wheel. This also was my first chance to ride on an elephant and got to do this with my son and God son! Thank you Shriners!!! My son's favorite was the clowns and the elephant! The only thing I did not like was the protesters outside! Children do not need to see that!!

Very good show! Loved that there was an 11:00 show, good time of day to take little ones so it doesnt interfere witha naptime or bedtime. Will go again next year.

Was disappointed with the show! My child was asking to leave, and we did actually leave early.

  • Nice bums...not!

    by Mamaof2boyz on 2010-03-14Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 1 out of 5

How come I paid the same amount for my ticket as everyone else but I only saw the backs, or shall I say "bums", of every performer including animals! The circus seemed to address only the other side of Rexall and we got the back end of the performance! No animal posed toward us...only the other side, the "ring master" addressed the other side majority of the time, as well as all the acts! Is the circus not supposed to be a 3 "ring", as in 360 degree, circus? Come on! And how about those HUGE pillars of wires and anchors that were right in front of us and blocking my small son's view of the floor? Could some one not sit in the seats, be aware if you can see the floor, and if not how about blocking those sections off? Doesn't anyone care about quality any more instead of just making money? We did have 1st row seating and of course my son and I were extremely excited about this, but then when the scantilly clad girls finished their twirling they came and plunked themselves down within reach of our hands in the box in front of us and put their winter coats on to warm up and just sit there! Kind of takes the magic out of the performing when as soon as they leave the ring they look like disgruntled employees! I do have to mention the ponies and horses. They were certainly beautiful to look at, but they came out and just ran around the ring in circles to the point that my son asked when they were going to do some tricks... a little disapointing. And do you really need to charge $10 per person for an elephant ride - which they squeeze about 6 people on to the sad looking elephant and do 2 laps, $10 per person for a camel ride - squeezing about 4 people on per ride, $8 per person for a pony ride, and honestly, $5 per person for the blow up, bouncy slide that when you touch they repeat, "go down the slide 2 times". Well that takes about 30 seconds per child, my son begged me to "puhleeze let me go again it was sooooo much fun!", in turn I forked out $15 to see his cute little face emminate joy as he slid down the slide 6 times, yes folks thats $2.50 per slide! Why was this the only ride that a man was standing beside the ticket taker selling MORE tickets because you could only buy tickets for these things up by the concession! Last, but certainly not least, where did the regular performers go with the "ring master" who was so tanned he looked orange but was faithfully there to get the crowd going every year? Instead we were presented with a new, French accented group who appeared to have 1 clown who actually climbed over my son while he was seated, using my head for balance! Where did the amazing performing kids go, the jugglers, more than 1 scantilly clad twirling woman, and ALL the clowns who kept us giggling every year? They really could out perform this new group AND they could keep 3 rings performing at once...not 1 ring at a time for about 2-3 minutes. No more circus for us...they days are gone when you saw amazing juggling, funny clowns, multiple twirling ladies defying gravity, well just good fun! This is really sad.

  • Shrine Circus entertaining young or old!!

by westernbluenoser on 2010-03-14Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

We took our family to the Shrine Circus and it was great. We were all entertained. Unfortunately, we got delayed a bit by the demonstrators outside and my husband missed the first few acts, but otherwise it was great. The motorcycle acts were amazing and all I have to say is that Natalia was a brave girl! Great show that is good for all.

  • Great for Kids

    by Rosie0983 on 2010-03-14Rexall Place - EdmontonRating: 4 out of 5

Had a great time at the circus. The only falut that I has was that the line to ride the elephant as too long meaning that a lot of people didn't get the opprotunity. Pre-arranged riding when you buy your tickets would most likely work out better than lining up an hoping you get on.

I would never go again, it was such a waste of money. I would have much rather went to chucky cheese...lol.
