Sigur Rós on Tour

In 2022, Sigur Rós announced the opening dates of their first world tour in five years and hinted at the new album they've been silently working on in the studio -- the first of their albums to be released since 2013's Kveikur. The forthcoming record was quickly hailed as one of the most anticipated releases of the year, with an international community of fans always eager to hear what the experimental ensemble comes up with next. They say good things come to those who wait. And nearly a decade since their last album dropped, Sigur Rós is sure to deliver a live show that exceeds all expectations, airing never-before-heard songs alongside material drawn from their acclaimed 25-year discography. Wherever they play, the Reykjavík, Iceland, natives transcend language through their music. They make songs for which there are no words but rather an evocation of deep feeling, inspiration and delight. Wherever you catch Sigur Rós on tour -- Australia, Mexico, the United States, or anywhere else -- it makes no difference what language you speak or whether you can understand Jónsi's melodic, Icelandic lyrics. In fact, all the songs off their Grammy-nominated 2002 album ( ) were sung in a made-up language, leaving listeners to interpret their own meaning of the title-less songs that they could then transcribe in the blank pages of the album booklet. To appreciate all their music achieves, watch Sigur Rós in concert and experience artistry unlike any other.

Sigur Rós Live in Concert

Sigur Rós is an experimental post-rock band from Iceland with six No. 1 albums and three platinum records to their name. The trio -- comprised of frontman Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, bassist Georg Hólm, and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson -- has remained at the forefront of the international music scene since the band's 1994 conception. Sigur Rós became one of the most celebrated alternative groups throughout the years, praised for consistently breaking ground with their ethereal and orchestral production. It's this atmospheric sound that Sigur Rós is best known for, along with Jónsi's siren-like falsettos that resonate with a celestial lullaby. The progressive outfit's 1999 breakout album, Ágætis Byrjun, received the inaugural Shortlist Music Award, a prestigious prize created to recognize independent releases. They went on to produce a prodigious volume of work, releasing a total of 10 albums and 12 EPs within a span of 20 years. Their No. 1 chart-topper "Glósóli" and signature track "Hoppípolla" appeared in the 2005 film Takk, winning a trio of Icelandic Music Awards. Sigur Rós has also won three MTV Europe Music Awards and in 2004 received their first Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Music Album for ( ).

    Sigur Ros was so bad

by Beto G on 2022-06-14Meridian Hall - Toronto

I had heard their music before and enjoyed it. They are great background music when you are doing something else. Or they make great soundtrack music...but sitting there listening to back-to-back nine minute long songs with his whiny voice was so boring. I literally fell asleep.

    Ascending

    by Cj on 2022-06-12

I feel it could have been even better, but the second half was amazing and that live performance of the last song (not spoiling) was making me tear up and I am not even a really big fan of that song. The Gold 2 and Gold 4 songs were also cool and gave stuff that I ain't heard before.

They transported me to a different world where the pandemic, work or other mundane daily life stuff didn't exist. Everything that I thought it would be and more.

    Sensory Overload!

by Nicole Janzen on 2022-05-14Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Seeing Sigur Ros again after 5 years was the ultimate initiation back to some normalcy after the last few years we've had. The show was visually beautiful and a welcome sensory overload to the ears. Jonsi's vocals, bass you felt right through your body, keys so beautifully played and those drums...can't get enough. They pick the best venues to compliment their music, the visual experience they provide and the experience you feel the whole time. This is the 4th time seeing Sigur Ros and I can't wait to see them again. Thank you for a great night!!

    Good but not Great

by Amiya on 2022-05-13Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

I'm comparing May 9th's performance to their last Vancouver performance in 2016 I believe that because this was Sigur Ros's first stop of their world tour that they were rusty & sounded a little off But outside of that, it was still a delightful evening :)

    Sublime and Ethereal

by Pagefan on 2022-05-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Seated in the mid balcony provided a different perspective than my usual first 13 row preferred seats. I thought the lighting was very effective as were the backdrop visuals. The sound was excellent setting aside the heavy bass pedal tone throughout the 3rd song. They don't talk much. One assume to plays music of such intensity requires and King Crimson level of focus. It was a times truly sublime before soaring to ethereal heights. I only have two of their CDs, one of which I really like, but am glad I got to see them perform live.

Never as good as the first time!

    by Gr8ape on 2022-05-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Sigur ros is always good but, this time, it felt a bit slow. My husband & I have seen them 5 times. The chemistry between band members wasn’t quite the same. I think 2 band members were different from past shows. The 2nd half of the show picked up & they seemed more into it too. It was still worth it & we still love Sigur ros!

This is our second time seeing Sigur Ros live and they never disappoint. They are pure talent and always give the audience a beautiful, magical, amazing experience unlike any other concert I have seen. Jonsi has the voice of an angel and their talent is unique and remarkable.

    Beware the terrible sound

by Gram on 2022-05-12Orpheum Theatre - Vancouver

Heads up to anyone going to the Orpheum. Do NOT sit on the far right side on the floor. The bass was insanely loud, to the point where it was painful to sit through. I couldn't believe it would sound this bad at a theater like this one. We were utterly confused and frustrated with the sound all night. We traveled a long distance to see what was a dream show for us, and it such a sad disappointment.

    Sigur Ros --unforgettable!

by cdn3034 on 2016-09-26Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Sigur Ros - their recent performance in Vancouver is unforgettable! Overall sound was good, although louder than I expected given how mellow they sound most of the time in recordings. Very tight band; although my colleague ( a musician & die hard fan) said he noticed a couple mistakes.

The only thing I would recommend to take ear protection with you in case you care about your hearing. It gets quite loud.

    True originals.

by JamesFry on 2016-09-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Sigur Ros is one of the few truly original, authentic acts performing today. Their music defies description or classification. They are one of the great acts of all time. Whatever it takes, see this band.

    Sigur Ros

by NicoleJ33 on 2016-09-22Queen Elizabeth Theatre - Vancouver

Sigur Ros put on the most amazing show I've ever seen. It's hard to describe in words. You had to have been there to understand. It was an art show, a gig and a laser light show all in one. Queen Elizabeth Theatre was a great venue for this show as well with great views from almost anywhere.
